Nice video. Very impressive. Sure did look like that deer was shot in the center of his left side. Probably a stomach shot (and by his gait he did show some signs of injury). My guess is he was lying down from being shot recently. Did you look around for a blood trail at all? Hate to see him go to waste. Excellent footage though.
one deer lasts about a month or two if im the only one eating it..i eat deer alot tho.. i have meat from about 3 deer in the freezer, and i gave 2 deer away to my friend.
@Leatherwoodoutdoors i saw on that last buck that he looked to be shot? if you did get him would of looking nive on the wall but meat probaly went bad. Ive been told wants a deer is shot and the bullet or arrow hits a part of the meat or anywhere around meat it goes bad all over. its called Green meat or something. not to sure but im almost positive meat was bad
absolute pig, Watching this hunt I might recommend that if you ever have that chance to stalk a buck bedded, you should get within range and WAIT. Wait till that deer gets up on his own to feed. Then you take your chance. Still impressed with that deer!
john when youre hunting alone what piece of equipment do you have to put your camera on when youre going to shoot a deer? i know you cant hold it and shoot so where do you put your camera?
@tamadrummer20 I made my own camera holder. Look for the first or second video of the 2009 archery season, I think I show video of my camera arm and how I film myself.
@Yellowknight888 In that case, no. I didnt want to pull the bow back and have him not stand up with me holding the bow for a long time. I could tell he was ready to stand up and I was expecting him to look down over the hill, instead he never even saw me, he just bolted. My bow made a tiny noise from the wind and thats what he heard and just ran away. He didnt see us until he got down on the fourwheeler trail.
@Leatherwoodoutdoors Thats good. Just bought my first compound bow, hope to hunt somewhere for my meat in the future. First i gotta practice a lot, i don't want the animal to suffer too long.
great video and great stalk! I'm from Pennsylvania and have came across a buck similar to that one just not as big and I was in the situation u were. all in all great video
Since that buck was hurt that meant maybe another buck was manly enough to fight him. That means there is more than one tank out there. Unless it was hurt by something else.
I hate watching these videos. Seriously. Because all it does is make me long for this fall when I can get back out there and get me a nice buck! Thanks, John for teasing us with your videos. Just makes it that much harder to sit at home and dream of this years hunting season. Can't wait to show some videos of our own. Hopefully we'll see something and get something on camera for you to see of our blacktail or mule deer out here in WA state. Thanks guys for the awesome videos!
I think you should have waited about an hour and approched the area he ran into from downwind. That buck was hurt bad, tail between his legs and other body language suggests he laid back down shortly after you bumped him up. Good luck, nice buck.
Cool Video man! Nothing better than having that "Standoff" with a big buck! Memories that grind in our brains of the big one. I had the same thing happen saturday as a nice buck walked straight under our tree then walked straight away. I couldn't get a shot then he turned at 32 yds...i sent it...clipped that little as limb sending my arrow 2 inches over his shoulder. Dam....waiting from 5 yds to 32 as he walked away seemed like a lifetime! Hope you get em!
This video is a PRIME example of ethical hunting and good decision making. Many hunters would just take a wild shot just because seeing something that big makes their judgment go out the window. Even though he was injured already, it is not ethical to stick him with a poorly placed arrow in hopes that you'll get to finish him off with one or two more (like some other videos I have seen).
@theschwarz1 very good response. i have the priviledge to know both these guys personally and they are indeed sound, safe, and ethical hunters. good hunting aint always about the ones you shoot, its the memories and time spent afield
John.....nice work on stalkin that beast and props to Hunter Ru for doing some fine camera work......good stuff! If you guys manage to get a glimpse of him again.....I sure hope it's on film. keep up the fine videos - you guys got it goin on. Peace
@caza6leo I hunt various places but i do have family private land that i hunt. We are in claron county and the way to get big bucks is to pass on everything that is under 16"inside spread OR pass everything that has beam lenghts under 16".
I don't know what kind of camera you have but it takes nice footage

@stickstud17 When stalking muleys sometimes we gotta wait 30+ min for that deer to stand up. Just a little something to think on.

@sam4cello126 If you read the hunting regulations it is illegal to waste a game animal. Even trophy hunters give the meat to people who want it.
