@mreddierivers mike wouldnt be in FNM unless FNM was already really good, hes notoriously picky as an artist. mike only wrote the lyrics for "the real thing", not the music. are you telling me "epic" is only good because of the lyrics? not the bassline, piano, guitar riffs... i like patton too but dissing FNM shows your ignorance.
@IntegraTron2010 Who knows? it's quite possibly coincidental, then again, it might be completely deliberate. I suppose you'd have to ask Jim directly for the answer to that one ;)
Wow, how have I never heard this album until today?! It's freaking awesome. Then again, I should really not be surprised coming from a dude that was friends with Cliff...
awesome album.. Everyone keeps talking about Jim Martin being in Metallica and it almost sounds a bit like metallica had a lot to do with this album. For this particular song Jim had james on backing vocals saying Yea yeaaaaaa.. He could have had james sing an entire song but thats not how big Jim Martin works.. .. Awesome album .. Awesome man.. Big Jim Martin buy it.. Milk and Blood.. Get it on Amazon
there's a song on this album called "Barsoap Hair" that i really want you all to hear, can somebody give me EASY instructions on how to upload a song from my computer to youtube?
If you're using windows you probably have Windows movie maker. Open the program, click import audio file and if you want a picture file then click create movie. Log on to youtube click upload and you're done!
Indeed. It's the exact opposite of Anthrax's Fistful of Metal where the drums and bass were really loud but the guitars and vocals hummer ever so carefully in the background.
Now, that was because the producer of the album was a drummer. In the case of Jim.....well, you know.
Anyway, I think the album title is a reference to the mixture of semen and blood that was used as the artwork for Metallica's Load.
Scott Ian said he was going to remaster Fistful of Metal with possibly new artwork because he despised the art work (Neil Turbin's idea) and considers it to be Anthrax's worst album (even more so than State of Euphoria).
headcrusher is an average metal song. Just by trying to sound like RIP isn't going to make a stellar ablum. You can never duplicate an album and it should never be attempted. i am just waiting for that one band that gets its right. It's all about timing I guess. One band that is above the mark are The Sword. Classic sabbath influence but played with a punk vibe
Naaar, sorry it's far from "average" you're obviously one of those awkward sorts thats hard to please ;) Headcrusher sounds fookin awesome from where my ears are, & I guarantee the whole album will be superb..still, you can't please 'em all! The Sword are good yeah but they're not exactly anything new are they? Their sound is like recycled Sabbath, good yes but nothing new. Anyway we all have different opinions, if we were all exactly the same we'd all be like robots, & we don't want that ;)
not counting on the new megadave album to be any to groundbreaking. That was done 20 some years ago with Rust in Peace. I must say thou Chris Is an insane lead guitarist
Well, the word from rock/metal magazines that have heard it so far is that it's amazing...and Headcrusher is nothing short of brutal, so if tha't track alone is anything to go by then we're definitely in for a groundbreaking album. If you haven't heard Headcrusher yet check it out on here \m/
i personally disagree with metal being good these days. Everything is too sterile production wise these days. Some bands to excel like Nile, Cannibal Corpse, and behemoth
Depends where you look mate, & who you're actually listening to. Metal's alive & well & I'd say, healthier now than it has been for years, certainly a lot healthier than it was in the 90's, when that god awful "Nu-Metal" as it was termed, reared it's very ugly head. There's a new wave of trad metal going on at the moment, & thrash is alive & kicking arse again, but for me it was always alive. Like I said, depends who you're listening to ;) Roll on the mighty Megadeth's awesome new album \m/
I agree to a certain degree. Certainly the mainstream metal bands lack that certain rawness.
A lot of bands are very keen to advertise themselves as being very heavy and very melodic but a lot of it is just pop metal at best.
The vocals tend to be a little bit too dominant and the bass is a little too low. The vocals should always be either on the same level as the instruments or lower than them.
The fact that people use Pro Tools softens things further.
dude ty for the info a firend of mine has the album so he going send me a copy i cant wait to hea the rest of the stuff i like any metal bands from 80 right up to 2000 any thing now it all sound the same
There's still some superb bands around at the moment, & of course the NWOTM (New Wave of Trad Metal) happening RIGHT NOW! Not to mention the resurgence of thrash metal in recent years, things aren't bad at all in the current rock & metal scene dude, you should check it out. I went to a festival on Saturday & saw 11 top UK bands topped off by the mighty Blaze Bayley, it was awesome. Just check out Nightvision (myspace . com/nightvision 1 0 0 0, ace band. Also Babylon Fire & Fury UK, to name a few
Yes you can still get the album in various places, as some commentors on my video here have informed me. eBay might be a good start, or sites such as amazon, or play etc. Still want to get hold of it myself. Cheers!
It wasn't just The Real Thing ... it was We Care A Lot and Introduce Yourself. Jim rocked. FNM wasn't the same. Three stages of the band existed, with Chuck Mosley, with Mike Patton, and without Jim.
Then there's when Mike Morris was the singer and Courtney Love too.
I've always wanted to hear the stuff they did with her. I guess it would be a daft assertion to assume it would be FNM's sound mixed with Hole but I'm still all the more intrigued as to what their musical chemistry was like.
From the footage I've seen of the FNM 'reunion' this is what is missing from the mix. OK this track isn't great but that guitar sound and style is instantly recognisable asa big part of the FNM sound and Jon doesn't have it to my ears. The leads especially are totally FNM.
Ahem, what the heck do you mean this track isn't great? you're right though, it's not great, it's BLOODY AWESOME! And no i'm not really that interested in the FNM reunion either without Bick Sick Ugly Jim back in the fold, apparently he might've come back to them, but he didn't want to play any of their new songs after he'd left.. His riffs are awesome, I hope he does some new stuff one day, but at the moment he grows prize winning pumpkins for a living lol

Jim Martin was a tiny part of Faith No More. Get over it. Even though i loved The Real Thing his guitar tone was thin as hell. The riffs were awesome i'll admit that but i think Angeldust and King For a Day... were better albums with better riffs and he had nothing to do with that. Mike Patton and Billy Gould are Faith No More. By the way this song is boring and sounds surprisingly local.
You realise that Jim was still in FNM when they recorded Angel Dust right? He left in '94, Angel Dust was '92..
And King for a Day.. was not as good as The Real Thing really was it, it is fair to say that their best 2 albums featured Jim Martin, whether he is an integral part of the band or not.
Yeah i realize he was on Angeldust but if you have ever seen the making of Angeldust you can see that he had little or nothing to do with the writing process. He was disgruntled that Mike Patton was changing things. And a lot of those riffs weren't written by him Personally, I think King For a Day was brilliant and probably their best album. If it was released in '89 like The Real Thing it would have melted people's faces. The Real Thing came out at a perfect time and nothing sounded like it.
Album of the Year was great too. Anyway, it doesn't change the fact that this song is a representation of Jim Martin's writing ability. This is insanely generic and local sounding no matter how you slice it. If Jim was such a big part of FNM this would not suck as bad as it does. That being said, he fit the band well when he was in it... whether he wrote a lot or not i just personally think he wasn't as big a part as people think and this song is evidence of that.
well that may be your opinion and you're entitled to it, however ill have to beg to differ, in my opinion faith no more isnt the same without him, i prefer the music they made while he was still in the band
thats crazy talk, production value is low (LOCAL SOUNDING) but if this was recorded during "angel dust" w/ patton singin', it would be bad as fuck. BIG Jim is THE MAN
That thin sound you refer to is the "Big Muff" distortion box he used. I like the sound and think its great that he can be identified by it. But to each his own. We all have different ears.
It's a shame that he didn't return, he could have added a new dimension to the band's post-Angel Dust songs, whether it be improvised solos or just THAT sound.
Jim should be the second lead guitarist of Metallica so him and Kirk can do dual leads.
Or what they could do is have a scenario where each person has a sound that fills the sonic spectrum (i.e. a range that encompasses a low guitar tuning {James}, a high guitar tuning {Kirk} and somewhere in between {Jim} - kinda like what Scott Ian was attempting on Anthrax's Sound of White Noise album).
I hope he does. I think it would do a heck of a lot to increase Metallica's critical acclaim and commercial appeal.
The correlation between tempo and tuning of each guitar part would have to be taken into account. If James was to do slow yet heavy riffs (in the tuning of C) then Jim could do hard mid-tempo riffing (in the tuning of D) and Kirk could do his light-sounding leads (in the tuning of E).
Naturally each person's tuning can go down one or two steps depending on the genre of the song.
Also, having Jim Martin hook up with Metallica can allow for a three dimensional instrumental.
For instance, a sequel to Orion (entitled Speeches of the Species) where Rob plays distorted bass, James uses a talk box, Kirk uses volume swells as well as his usual wah-wah pedal and Jim could combine the usage of a slide and a tremolo bar.
The impact of each person's role and their distinctive presence depends on the diversity of tuning, variation of volume and tone as well as balanced mixing.
@eatsandsleeps Or Metallica should have tried to hire Billy Gould after Cliff died. Then again we would have been without 1/2 of FNM's stellar rhythm section. Wait, problem solved: Clone Billy Gould!
You could use Windows Movie Maker, which is what I used to put this very video together. Incase you don't know win movie maker is on your PC in your accessories menu, dead easy to use too...try and use that if you want to put some of the tracks on, I for one would love to hear 'em ;)
yeah i still do:), but when a good album remains out of print, sometimes the net's your only shot at finding it. And until these musicians get off their lazy arses and reissue them, downloading is the only option.
No probs ;) One of the main reasons I did upload this was because it wasn't to be found anywhere on here, and I did wonder how many fans knew about it, so I thought i'd fill up the gap, and of course it's a great track too.......pity Jim's not in music any more, apparently he grows massive pumpkins now, and enters competitions with 'em lol....slightly bizarre, but each to their own eh? :-D
Thanks pal ;) I still want to track down his album 'Milk & Blood' that this track appeared on, but it seems to be rarer than rocking horse droppings trying to find it :-D
faster disco, arabian disco, disco dust.....I thought that was Chuck, turns out its all about Jim. Great tune, Great Man..
