  • Very nice review.

  • Surely, given the bleakness of such a situation, the best thing to do would be to find somewhere comfortable (relatively comfortable I mean) and wait for a comparatively comfortable death.

This may seem a very defeatist attitude, but I felt that Cormac tried so hard to present this scenario of the very end of human life, that trying so hard to keep your young son alive was more cruel than letting the inevitable take place, albeit in a less horrific and abysmal way as being eaten by cannibals.

  • One thing, at the end the reviewer states that the book attempts to convey the message that the future belongs to the children, but one of the things I found with the book (I am yet to see the movie, but I presume the message is the same) is that this is the FINAL generation of humans. There is no more life after this.

This, in many ways, was my main problem with the story. Why embark on this adventure and potentially put your son through such an ordeal when there is no hope left?

  • I'm sure that people still want to know what caused the apocalypse in the film. You never find out because none of the characters know what happened. Viggo's character said, "the clock stopped at 1:17. There was a long sheer of bright light, and a series of low concussions." Judging by how the sun is blocked and all plant/animal life is gone, my best guess is that there was a meteor impact or a super volcano eruption and the character's were far away enough to survive without knowing what it was

  • For me, it was one of the best movies of 2009/2010. The other movie at my top list is Kick-Ass. These two films have nothing in common, except for the fact, that they are extremely well-made.

  • Sick and tired of that light happy feeling? Life giving to much to you and is that smile making your face hurt? Why deal with annoying emotions like happiness? Why bother with the hassle of joy? If you're having uplifting emotions and you feel just to good then look no further then "The road" as your savior. GAY_RUN_TEED! to eliminate all those pestering smile reflexes and completely crush any sense of joy or happiness within 2 hours time. (side effects include eating friends and suicide)

  • I loved this film! It was so realistic, sad and beautiful at the same time. It was awesome!

  • Difficult to reccommend? I do not think so.

This film is truely mind blowing - it represents a realistic post apocalypse world and poses the questions about humanity and how quickly would we lose it in such a world

  • Good Review. Slow down a bit though, it seems like you're nervous reading it. That's my only critique. Well thought out and succintly said though. Keep up the good work.

  • This movie might just be a crystal ball view of the future?

It was to me as a realist, HORRIFIC!

A future where the weak will die, humans will eat humans.

    Watch it !

  • @LabRat6619

Most things that could go terribly wrong would still not wipe out all land animal and plant life on earth (thereby necessitating cannibalism). The only things that come to mind are total nuclear holocaust or a gigantic meteor strike. So, no need to worry that much. No point, either.

It sure helps to have someone to hug after watching this movie, though.

  • Just saw 'The Road' last weekend.

If you're feeling happy go lucky this is the movie to change your mood. It may not make you put a pistol in your mouth but it sure as hell tries.

Like me you may choose to go for a stiff drink afterwards with your friends where you will have them all wallowing in misery after 5 minutes while you wail,'we are all fucked! we are all going to die!

  • I'm only 11 years old and i saw this movie on new years eve. its really hard to watch and you WILL cry.

  • @SkyBennett1 I can gurantee I wont cry

  • really great review

  • Good review, good movie.

  • Saw this last night. You have hit the nail on the head with your review sir. My wife and I went on a double-date with my buddy and his wife thinking this might have a bit of action... wow. All I can say is that we went in with the wrong mentality. This is a film to be viewed by one's self rather than in a group looking for fun at the movies. The depth of depression throughout this story damn near ruined our evening. I plan to see it again, prepared, by myself, and with a pint of Jack Daniel's.

  • Now that was a damm good review.

  • @YOUareSOstinky

Yeah. I'd still recommend it, though.

  • dammit! You're totally right. I meant 28 Days Later. Dammit.
