  • thank you big help

  • I got my clicker at Petsmart (also available at PetCo) for $1.00 and it has lasted for 10 years.

  • At what age can you start using the clicker? Our dog is a GS and she is 2 months old.

  • I don't understand how it's work?

  • Do you think i can use a top of the snapple cap and click it?

  • @sononiz Ah NO! You should not exercise any critical or independent thinking skills, you must buy a clicker especially made for the sole purpose of making dog clicker noises but putting a few dollars in the pocket of The Amazing Dog Training Man. Any dog that sees you as an independent thinker will recognize he too can be completely free and not respond to a Snapple clicker.

  • @sononiz I would probably say "no" just because you need the exact same sound every single time. They don't cost hardly any money, though.

  • I have a shih tzu and it's impossible to get my dog used to the clicker, he always get's so distracted even when i'm in a quite room with nothing that he will be able to mess around with. I've done the click and treat thing over 40 times and now i'm running out of training treats. Someone help, he just won't understand plus his behaviour is bad as well. he's only 2 yrs old.

  • @JustinB97luver Try upgrading the food used for treats. It has to be something that he really wants. I used lil shreds of chicken for treats.

  • you can buy them off ebay 4 clickers for 3 bucks

  • I trained 3 of my beagles with snapping my fingers instead of using a clicker, and associated (Stay, Sit, Lay, Come, Good, and Jump) commands with American Sign Language. I can sign a command to them too without using words and they'll still follow the command. It's best to stick with one word ASL commands, as it gets too complicated for them. My dogs have learned over 30 ASL signs.

  • i use a snapple bottle cap as a clicker.

  • I got a clicker for 1$ at Petsmart.

  • Cant you just snap?

  • I just got a clicker it cost me 2.09 € that means 3.03 US $ .

    That's clearly nothing. Really Cheap.

  • why buy a clicker when u can snap?

  • i thought it was a sturdy item to throw at your dog to teach it not to hump your legg, XD jk

  • Clicker training is about far more than simply using a clicker in training. This trainer violates several important principles of clicker training. For a professional clicker trainer who understands the principles of clicker training call the Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Behavior & Training: 1-800-47-click.

  • the bird sounds in the backround are beutiful :D

  • Would a metal bottle cap click work?

  • @swdiva24 Yes!

  • hey i have a black lab mix. he is 3 years old can he be clicker trained

  • can u clicker train a older dog about 4 year old or does it have to be a young dog/puppy?

  • Thank you for posting!

  • what if i start clicker training without charging the clicker?

  • @rjDeol99 It just means that you must follow a treat or a reward - in the form of life rewards or toys - to the dog right after they hear the clicking sound.

  • im so high

  • about how long should you "charge" the clicker prior to command training? E.g. "come", "stay", etc. ?

    Great vid. Thanks.

  • there is a app for the dog clicker its in apzilla 2

  • it makes sense. Thanks amazing dog man!

  • cant u just click with your fingers?

  • @TheLarsArne Yes, but the mechanical clicker is a much more consistent sound. As he showed in the video, you want to limit confusion as much as possible, even with timing. If you click and feed the dog two days later, the dog won't associate the click with the reward.

  • @Mindraker1 thx for aplying. the clicker i bought makes lezz noice then a ball point pen , i hope its becuse of bad quality and that every clicker isnt as quiet as thisone. i indend to get a newone.

  • @TheLarsArne no the cliker makes two klics

  • Same principle as if i were to make a clicking noise with my mouth? or a certain whistle tone?

  • @doodlinin kind of, but you want it to be quick and sharp. So more like making a loud clicking noise with your tongue, and your mouth open. But you wouldn't want to do that, cause your mouth, jaw, and tongue would get sore. :)

  • Can you use a sound made by your mouth instead of a clicker ? Like doing a "click" sound with you tongue ?

  • @Idelafr Yeah, all the clicker does is make a loud clicking noise. If you could make a "click" noise loud enough so that your dog could easily hear it, then sure, you could use that.

  • If I say something like: "Good!" to my dog and give him a treat over and over again, would that work just like the clicker? Thanks for the video.

  • I didnt know about the clicker; I have a almost 3 months old lab retriever that needs to be trained so tomorrow first thing I'll be getting one; thanks for the video!

  • Thank you very much!

  • what if my dog is scared of the clicker??? :(

  • i have a question : is it okay if after a click, you reward your dog with a pet on the head or something like that?

  • @BrandoMaximo - probably not. Most dogs don't like being petted on their head, so if you pet it, you may be punishing the dog for good behavior. The dog determines how valuable the reward is. Food usually works, especially if the dog is hungry. Some dogs prefer toys or games. To a dog that likes to play, a game of tug might be a reward.

  • Great video!

  • @SkaRocksYea Thank you!

  • wonderful video!! very helpful, thank youuuu :)

  • Eric I have a 3 year old Pembroke female Corgi and my neighbour has threatened her and she always barks at them or any one else that makes a noise in the yard,

do you think a clicker will work, I have tried various things and have had no luck.

This has been going on for 2 years.

  • hi um i have a great dane puppy 2 month old and i would like to train him basic behaviors like sit drop it stay potty trainning nd soo i need help should i try a shock collar for when he gros up or a clicker does it rly work i rly eed helpppp :) plrasee

  • @YANITZA5611 NEVER use a shock collar on a dog.... Would YOU like one around your neck??

  • @YANITZA5611 u shud never use a shock collar. wut it does is it teaches your dog to fear u instead of trust u. to listen 2 u out of fear instead of listening 2 u cuz its the right thing. imagine doing wut ur parents say cuz ur completely afraid of them. thats how it is 4 a dog. use a clicker.

  • THAT WAS SO HELPFUL!!! THANKS SO MUCH ERIC

  • about how much does a clicker cost?

  • @LuvCudi4ever Few dollars.

  • @LuvCudi4ever

I just bought my clicker from Petsmart for $1.25 each

  • @LuvCudi4ever 1-2 dollar they work alot

  • @LuvCudi4ever I payed 99 cents for mine ay Petco.

  • @LuvCudi4ever

I've seen others use a metal bottle top (Snapple or any glass juice bottle will do)

  • @jodojef that's really interesting. Good tip.

  • @LuvCudi4ever ......I have one you can buy for $180

  • @LuvCudi4ever i bought mine for 2.99

  • @LuvCudi4ever 1.99 from petco red or blue thats the only colors :(

  • @LuvCudi4ever get them on ebay for 1$

  • @LuvCudi4ever i got mine at petco for 50 cents :p

  • @LuvCudi4ever $1.99 at pet supermarket just got one 3 days ago

  • 1.49 at petsmart

  • @jtalley318 I just bought one today. They are great.

  • how do i make swimming fun

  • Why cant you just say "good" and give treat instead of buying a clicker?

  • @trudal987

You could do, some people say YES, but with a voice, it's not always consistant. 'Good' can be 'good' or 'gooooood', high or a bit lower depending on who is training the dog, or whether you have a cold or not. ;) The clicker makes the same sound every single time, no matter who uses it.

  • @EvelineUK so the theory behind this is that dogs aren't smart enough to recognize a word? I suppose it would be easy to acquaint a sharp sound but some dogs are pretty damn smart.

  • @EvelineUK thats true. my dog responds better 2 a clicker than 2 my voice

  • you are nice

  • not remote controle ur dog :) And thanks 4 making this video:)

  • how do we know that the dog is charged???

  • Yes you can use finger sounds instead but it's better to use the clicker.

If you don't want a clicker you can use a metal cap from juice bottles : )

  • can't you just do the famous fingers' sound instead??

  • Can you do it 500 times a day? How about timing? Can you "click" your fingers within fraction of a second from the behaviour you want to mark?

  • in behaviorism, repetition is key. however, you wouldn't want to reward so much that your reward loses value. Variable interval schedules of reinforcement produce the best results. second question- the closer the reward is to the stimulus the more effective the stimulus will be.

  • i've never clicker trained but i am a psych student. i would assume that it would be easier for the dog to discriminate the frequency and volume of the conditioned stimulus if it was the same kind of click every time. dogs seem to generalize well, since people don't always pronounce specific commands exactly the same way. so i would think fingers would work fine, but the clicker might be slightly better.

  • Hi,

I have a question. Is it possible to use a clicker to teach your dog not to strain at the leash?

  • Yes, when your dog is straining the leash, you can say: no! and when your dogs catches your attention and stops straining...you immediately cilck and treat and so on until he understands that when he is not straining he gets a treat.

  • a clicker basically takes the place of the trainer saying good boy?

how young is too young for a dog to be trained this way?

  • no dog is too young.. best age to start training is 7weeks and up.

  • Hello, I have a question. How do you know when your dog knows the click is good?

  • wait till your dog is looking away, then click. If the dog immediately turns around looking for a treat, he knows what's up.

  • When you immediately give him a treat.

  • because you reward your dog as soon as you click.

  • your a wondeful MAn thanks for this video!

  • I've been using a clicker for just over a week now, when should you start weaning off assosiating the clicker with the treat? I'm trying to loose lead walk my dog and he'll only do it if I have treats.

  • thanks! i just got a clicker

  • my grandma's dog has been at my house for about a year now and we've had her for around a year i think shes a year and a half now. she jumps on everyone and wont listen to commands can i still train her?

  • to freshmojito

Of course you can use a clicker outside.

  • gj man! i like ur videos. clear and to the point.

  • what age of the dog can you start using the clicker????? becuase i am getting a dal pup soon and was thinkin this would be a great way to train her. can you use it for potty trainin your dog????

  • usually around 3 months and its able to be used for potty training for my boxer if i leave the house for a little while and come back and he didnt go i will click and give him 2 treats it works great

  • can you buy dog clickers in a local pet shop?

  • yes they usually will have a little box and have mutiple designs and companys that make them and are only usually 2.00 bucks

  • click treat click treat click treat ahaa i love it good videos dude keep them up they are so helpful =] and sarakellaghan1989 i got 1 from ebay for 99p with about 50p postage =]

  • yes

  • @sarakellaghan1989 absolutely! he says it at 2:30

  • @sarakellaghan1989 yes you can mostly.

  • @sarakellaghan1989 about a dollar or two at petsmart

  • @sarakellaghan1989 Yes. I got mine at PetSmart for $4.

  • @sarakellaghan1989 yes. they sell them in petsmart. and such

  • @sarakellaghan1989 yes.. they average about 2 bucks at petco

  • can i use the click of a pen..

  • yes, but it won't be loud enough for outside use.

  • I guess so

  • Don't worry! The dog knows exactly the sound of hes clicker. He will filtrate the sound even on a noisy street.

  • i get it!

  • I love it. I will definitely be trying this tonight when I get home to my pup. Does the breed matter as far as how fast they pick up on them responding?

  • yup.. border collies particularly learn faster than most breeds.. intelligence is bred with the breeds too, part of their genes.. but it doesnt mean other dogs are dumb.. :-) either your dog is fast or slow at learning,, what matters most is your patience at training.. Goodluck!

  • not to remotecontroll ur dog, haha :D

  • sweet mate. very useful =) 5/5

  • what is the catch on getting the free book..? ty 4 posting this vid... good vid

  • your the best k9 trainer that i saw on you tube, thanks for the e mail...god bless...

  • my dog always runs away from me when im takin her for a walk if i let her off the leash

  • 10580 you can always teach a old dog new tricks

  • I absolutely agree with you.. I've taught my 8 yr old dog the play dead trick when she was 6 years old.

  • can you use a clicker at all ages?

  • Yep. The trick is to remember that your dog considers your family a pack (even if it's just you and the dog). Once you have asserted that you are the dominant, you can train a dog of any age virtually any trick.

  • We are actually studying operant conditioning in Psychology right now. I am getting a dog soon and I was trying to figure out how to train it. i think this is the best way I have seen yet. Thanks for the video!

  • ive started to clicker train my 13 week old staffy and its really working :)

  • I tried lots of ways to train my dog, but clicker training was the onlyone that actually worked. This is the best way to train your dog. ;)

  • what kind of treats you guys always used?? Im just curious..

  • Comment removed

  • Use the treats yout dog want to work for, like it`s favourite! ;) you can also use toys ;)

  • You should use soft treats for training because they are yummier and are faster and easier to eat.

  • Cannot locate the free e-book anywhere on your site - instead it takes me to a page that asks me to purchase a membership???

  • i thought the same thing, but i got an email with the site it came on :)

  • kl,subscribin so wenever i get a dogill kno wot to do! cheers!

  • Is clicker training effective for correcting unwanted behaviours, such as keeping my dog from chasing my cats?

  • the method you'd be lookin for here is called 'extinction'.

search it if you want to know what it is.

clicker training might work, aslong as there is a reward to go along with it. does the dog respond when you tell him to be quiet? find a way to get him if not such as scolding (this is equivelant to telling him to sit) and click and reward. then once he learns the behaviour, match it with a word such as 'stop'. if you dont get what i mean. mail me. im running out of characters.

  • can i just use a pen as a clicker

  • use a gatorade cap... its alluminium just like the clicker, makes the same sound and its cheaper ;-)

  • if they can hear it. its fine, some dogs are more sensitive to sound than others. so somelike it louder, some like it quieter. try it out first, see if he hears it

  • Do you always have to give the dog a treat after clicking? I understand that it is important in the beginning to give meaning to the clicker but after a while in using the clicker, do you still have to provide a treat? Would a "good girl" and rub suffice after some time using the clicker instead of the treat?

  • I want to know this as well!

  • A click must always be followed by a treat or another reinforcer (like a toy). If your dog thinks it's reinforcing when you say "good girl" you can use that on behaviors that she already knows well, but then you don't really need to click.

  • you can also give something they like (such as a favourtie toy), pet, or you can be verbal 'good girl'. as already stated, this is a reinforcer (encourages behaviour to be repeated). its like promising a reward when you click.

  • What you do is after the behavior pretty well trained, you start varying your 'reward schedule'...say, after three successes, you click and treat...you start making the dog guess if he will get a treat. If you stop giving a reward all together and too soon, the dog won't have a real reason to keep doing the command. (But yes, if you click, you must always treat.)

  • Great vid

  • you vids have been a great help. I have only been clicker training my 10 week old border collie for 3 days and she is doing great.

she sits, and she will lay down. she almost always stays on command too.

  • How much time should I spend on "charching the clicker"?

  • Until the dog comes running from the other room when you click to get a treat. Remember to do it all around the house different times of the day. Basically don't do it just in the kitchen or everytime after dinner or the dog will only know that the click means yes then. 15-30mins a day no more or it becomes boring to your dog.

  • how could i teach a labrador pup to poop in an appropriate place?

  • Nice introduction.

  • thank you i am getting a puppy in a week, cramming knowledge in bout what they do but mostly bought their training, thanx to u i feel more confident thank you very much hope u make more videos

  • wow...thank you!

  • Yes forsure, great video. I have a clicker but I've lost it somewhere so I am using a little squeaker right now. My dog loves hearing the noise so I let her hear it whenever she does something good, followed by a treat. I might not get to go to a clicker now cuz she's doing so well with the squeaker! I'm enjoying a lot of you video's. Thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks for your comments! Let me know how you make out with the squeaker.

  • great video we need more people like you.

  • Thanks! More vids to come soon.
