Interesting casting and design. Typically the Emcee has been a frail, feminine man, and wearing a dress for this song.
As far as the performance, it's passable. As a graduating senior, I don't think he's quite as good as he should be. Maybe it was a choice to go flat on certain notes, but on some of the louder notes it just sounded painful, for the audience more so than the Emcee.
WOW. I am in shock. I just can't believe it. This is what I have been looking for from this song for the LONGEST time. Even Cumming didn't capture it as beautifully as this man. If I were in that theater You would have to hold me down because I most certainly would have given him a standing ovation
wow, way to leave it all on the stage. this is my favourite song from cabaret, and that was sung with so much emotion. simply beautiful. and a hell of a voice. :)
Voice was perfect...my only issue is that you are playing a character who is acting. Most of those emotions aren't real for the Emcee, you were too believable if that makes sense. Cabaret performers only needed to make their performances good, not great. As long as they got the money they needed to get their fix of drugs, they didnt care about how believable they were.
Wow, here I am sitting at home with tears brimming in my eyes. That was absolutely beautiful. This man is so incredibly talented, an amazing singer and actor. Just amazing.
I too was in the audience for this performance, and the video doesn't do it justice. alexs performance came out of nowhere and packed an extremely emotional punch. everyone in the audience was stunned. i was sittin in the front row and remember seeing his tears hit the floor at 2:46 and being totally overwhelmed. BEAUTIFUL performance
i was in the audience that day and i literally burst into to tears during this song. it was raw, intense, beautiful, opressive, and penetrating. by far the best piece in the whole show. i never really paid attention to this song in cabaret, till i saw him perform it. i love you!
Very original interpretation, beautiful voice, good breathing. I was initially thrown off by your appearance (that's not meant offensively, you just don't look like Grey or Cumming), but by the end, I totally saw you as the emcee.
WOW! WHAT AN INCREDIBLE INTERPRETATION! So many actors throw away or do not know what to do with this song, and he made such STRONG yet PAINED choices. This is obviously not a typical casting choice for this role but the actor is really quite impressive! What agony, what pathos, and WHAT A VOICE! KUDOS!
OMG. I don't know who posted this, but...this was the first performance of this song I ever heard, and Alex's performance of it is what made me fall in love with it. Everyone did such an amazing job with this production, and Alex was such a WONDERFUL choice as MC. Congratulations again on a job well done! :)

What's great about this performance is that it really captures the intensity of a song from Cabaret that often gets ignored...

Amazing. This was extremely emotional, which I enjoyed, you don't even have to watch, you can just listen and hear the emotion in your voice.
You have such talent.
Good luck with your future, I hope you pursue this!

I agree, but we can't see the director's vision just from this one song.Maybe that's what they were going for.
