"One of the key things you cannot do, is lleave one of the key 3 point shooters unattended". Horry went off in this game too, it wasn't just one shot.
if i need a three in the playoffs with the game on the line robert horry is the guy i want taking the shot ( reggie miller might have something to say about that)
@sawtine It does because it happened in a key game in the FINALS and not a game 2 up 1-0 in the WCF! If the Spurs lose this game they lose the finals in 6, if the Spurs lose that game they are still 1-1 and have a shot!
I know that Elliott SHOT won them their first title basically going up 2-0 and spurred them to that, but this shot here was so clutch it was crazy! Spurs lose a finals if they miss this one.
@sawtine It was huge, but they were blowing through the playoffs and I doubt they lose it even if he missed that! That was probably the best shot in Spurs history though since the team won their first title afterwards and how difficult it was! That shot was nearly impossible. I have to think about this some more, but both rotate as my fave shot ever as a fan.
@sawtine actually, i'm going to have to give this a new analysis....this horry play was a greater moment in "NBA" history...all around. Even for those that were not fans of either team..it was bigger playoff moment...but as a spurs fan...the Elliot shot was the single greatest moment in "Spurs" history....i'll paste my comment from that moment below
@sawtine I'm going to retract my statement....about this being a greater "nba" moment....the shot isn't nearly spectacular..the overall circumstances weren't as great... it was not a turning point in the Spurs franchise history... the Memorial Day Miracle shot should be in the top 10.
Wow as a huge spurs fan I use to hate Robert horry when he played for the lakers, but I remember that game, I was 15 sitting on my bed watching the game and my whole body was shaking because I thought we were gonna loose, and when he hit that shot I think I slept smiling that night. That's my story:)
Man I still remember it as if it were yesterday. Detroit blew out San Antonio in game 4 to tie the series. Then this crucial game 5 went to overtime and I could remember all of us screaming at the TV "Dont leave Robert fucking Horry open" Chauncey missed the next shot and I thought it was over. Detroit wins game 6 on the road and loses game 7 after being up 9 in the 3rd and tied going into the 4th. Gotta give it to Timmy though he was the difference at the very end.
Sheed! What are you doing!?! First you come to late to challenge Sean Elliot in 1999, then you and the Blazers choke away 2000 WCF, then you leave Horry open in 2005, then you and the Pistons choke away 2007 and 2008 ECF, then you and the Celtics choke away the 2010 Finals!
Yup best Finals of 2000's so far, in that it was two evenly matched squads with equal amount of star players and skill of teams. It wasn't like the teams just got hot in the playoffs - they dominated all season.. Ultimately I think Duncans class trumped them in the end...
This series was so intense. I remember watching this shot, and talking about it for MONTHS afterwards with my friends. At this point, I just gave in to Horry's greatness and proceeded to buy his jersey haha.
MABEY, i mean...2006 nba finals was such an upset.. like wow..Im a net fan and going in to that series i thought the only team that could beat the mavericks were the spurs, which they didnt do.. the finals i thought would be a joke, i thought dallas would win in 4, 5 at the most. they just had 2 many young players and 2 many shooters for the aging heat. but that game 3 comeback and a little luck in games 3,5, and6 helped pull out the biggest upset of the decade(excluding mavs in 07)
I agree. Ratings don't determine how good a series is. People just don't watch certain teams because when you watch ESPN, all you see are Lakers highlights, or Celtics all day long. So when two teams who aren't "preferred" by networks meet up, the ratings won't be as hot as they would even if the series is extremely good.
This series was the best Finals of this decade... Larry Brown was the better coach, but Tim Duncan was the best player. Just sit back and let him do what he does
Larry Brown isn't better than Popovich. Larry Brown has had so many teams be failures, it's embarrassing. Look at the players Spurs are turning into stars after being drafted at the dead end of the first round, or even in the second round. Popovich is a genius who's never lost a finals when he's gotten there. His team's record is over .700 for the past like dozen years now. Larry Brown's done what exactly that's better than Popovich?
@Samaro1986 both teams blew each other out in the first 4 games, the Spurs in the first 2 and the Pistons in the second 2... after that the final 3 games were very close... it was like a heavyweight fight, both teams hit each other in the mouth early and after that it was all about who wanted it more and who was gonna hit big shots... it was a fantastic series
@Samaro1986 finals of 2000-2004 were all blowout series. in 05 there was finally a 7 game series that was decided in the 4th quarter in game 7. in 06 the mavs just gave up & the heat won 4 straight. in 07 god lebron got his ass swept. in 08 Boston Dominated. in 09 Lkers dominated. & this years finals is kind of boring. i know its going to 7 games, but seeing the entire lakers team give up in so many games & the same with the celtics.too many fouls this year. i dont want to see the benches play.
@thesportsdude90 the first four games were blowouts, 2 blowouts per team, and the last 3 games were nailbiters. Lakers/Celtics was 2010 so it was part of another decade.
@sumskater999 better than Lakers-Celtics 2008 but not better than in 2010... lol I said that before they palyed in 2010 so I'll take that back cuz that series was EPIC
I'm a Magic fan but Larry Brown is probably the best coach in the history of Basketball... everywhere he's been, college or pro, he's won, plain and simple. He beat Phil Jackson, Shaq, Kobe, Karl Malone, and Gary Payton in one NBA Finals with no real star, good players, but no stars... that alone should tell u what u need to know.
Larry Brown is the only coach to win in college and the pros... Larry Brown has taken every team he has coached to higher heights than before. Larry Brown can win with any team.
cause he wants to play with the BEST power forward to ever play the game. its the same reason why kobe, shaq, carter, malone, & lebron wanted to come to spurs at one time. hell even scotty pippen wanted to come out of retirement to play with tim.
Hubie's awesome. He has a great voice for announcing. Also he coached the Knicks and I am a New Yorker so that is how I started to like him. Him and Mike Tirico=Perfection. :)
this one is on rasheed...crazy man didn't stick to the defensive plan. why the hell he went trapping manu in the corner when prince was already there challenging manu.
