Click BLAST and wait for the most similar gene sequences to appear. You will not find 2009/H1N1 listed as a match or having similar gene sequences. For example, sequence 4 in the patent is most similar to Influenza A virus (A/swan/Hokkaido/55/1996(H1N1)­, NA gene and none of the matches listed include 2009(H1N1). You can do the same with the protein sequences and the results will show similarities between protein sequences listed in the patent and all other known protein sequences.

The best way to establish that the claim is false is to go to patentlens. Use the "search sequences" link. Click the "By Patent" tab and enter the patent number US20080069821. You'll find 23 DNA/RNA sequences. Under the BLAST column for each SEQ ID No, click NCBI. In the new window, enter "H1N1 subtype" in the "organism" box. What this does is compare the selected gene sequence from the patent to "H1N1 subtype" gene sequences deposited on the NCBI and displays similarities.

Swine flu Virus: quite alot of vaccines made are recombinat vaccines. Comapnies try to make single vaccine for all subtypes of a virus for that they make new virus (not the full virus just the parts rquired to make a vaccine) with some compopnents of each by reverse enginerring. and these viruses doesnt have any capacity to infect or mutiply by itself. when they are admisterd in to the body the immune system recongnise it as foriegn and make antibodies against each component seperately.

The speaker also mentions about a medimmune product Flumist. which nasal spray against RSV.. which is a live attenuated virus. The famous vaacines like BCG is also a live attenuated virus and we all take BCG vaacination by that no one had ever spread tuberculosis.

Many vaccines with live virus have spread disease. One of the most famous being the 1920 (non)small pox outbreak in the US which was wholly manafactured in order to boost vaccine supplies. It was eventually uncovered that there was not a small pox epedemic prior to people being vaccinated.

Thousands died and many more were left disabled.

As for the WHO they have not been at all honest with the people till now so I would not put much trust in the information they supply.

I havent gone through the patent myself. but the speaker says novartis and medimmune patented a H1N1 virus. H1N1 is a class/strain of virus it doesnt mean that its the the swine flu H1N1> since there were other incidents of H1N1 class virus infection (not swine flu origin) in the past pharmaceutical companies are trying to make vaccines aginast this particular strain. As I mentioned earlier , making a viral vaccine means you are using a full virus or viral particles .

Dr Ott is not speaking about H1N1 virus, he actually states that the patent is the current recombination swine flu virus which comprises H5N1 H1N1 & H3N2. The biologists he spoke with would not I am sure be so concerned if it was just the H1N1 type.

Yes it is true how viral vaccines are created. But I always thought what had to be patented was the VACCINE, the end product NOT the virus. In principle thats like trying to patent water... as it occurs naturally in nature.

This is just another idiotic controversy. the speakers are misleading the viwers/listerners with patenting a virus. Every viral vaccines availabele in this world are either made of live attentuated virus/ or viral particles, The basic vaccine making principle is to make similar (recombinant) virus which can not infect or spread but good enough to make the body prepares for the real viral infection. so every vaccine patented is either a virus patented or a part of virus patented.
