Last night I figured out why I didn't remember the end of this movie and had a ten minute tear-filled breakdown on each parent's shoulder after seeing this movie with friends, then proceeded to sleep with a nightlight.
I turn nineteen in two weeks.
Screw the giant mouse of Minsk, he ruined my childhood and I didn't even know it till I wasn't a child anymore.
watched aload of don bluth movies yesterday this being one most of his movies hav creepiness in them (especially the one about rabbits o-O getting hurt with blood and that) coodn't sleep that nite XD never watch loads of his movies all at once
It used to scare me as I tried not to look at it the other time I saw the giant mouse of Minsk. The first time I saw it, I though it was like a dinosaur/dragon/mouse.
Dayum. I just saw the movie (for the first time, and at 21 that) and I'm impressed.
Holy moly that thing has a skeletal head and rocket launchers for shit's sake! Ok, they're actually fireworks, but it's the closest thing acceptable in a kids' movie. Eat your heart out, anime, all your humongous mechas combined ain't topping that!
Indeed and this was my favorite scene in the movie as a kid when i saw it 3 times. Did you also had coloring books as well? Hal Smith is the voice of Moe in this movie as you can tell.
Will Ryan is the voice of Digit the roach and he is also the voice of Grubby on Teddy Ruxpin, Pete on Ducktales, Goofy in the 80's after Hal Smith quite doing his voice, Petrie on Land Before Time and more. It's funny how Madeline Khan and Dom De Luise are reunited in this movie years after Blazing Saddles, she was hilarious in this movie and in that one.
Not me i thought he was cool and i saw this movie in theaters when i was 5 when i saw it 3 times and had some of the original merchandise, did you watched this on video? but not as scary as that puppet scene in Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night
@Johnlindsey289 I have seen this movie many times before back then. And though this scene doesn't scare me as much as it used to, I still remember how creepy it waas to me. I do remember the puppet scene from Pinocchio.
@Martintheauthor Even scarier dude is if you look at the scale in the movie this bitch was somewhere between motorcycles and vans in size. Now imagine that come rolling out of a dark driveway on Halloween.....wait.
Yes amazing isn't it? Ralph Bakshi did some similar rotoscoping techniques used in American Pop, Lord of the Rings and Fire and Ice. And now with modern rotoscoping Robert Zemeckis and James Cameron did the same thing on their actors.
This my favorite scene in this movie! I love it when that puppet of the Giant Mouse drove all of those cats into the waters of the harbour where they'll be banished to Hong Kong. Or, shall I say, "Shanghied"? Ha ha! That part was fun! I laughed so hard when the cats ran away!
The sheer awesome of this scene gave me chills when I first watched it as a child. . .and I would watch it again and again, just that scene.
Now, years later, I find it to be no different. In fact, if anything, its awesomeness has -increased- now that I am old enough to fully appreciate it. . .The sound effects, the animation, the look of sheer terror on Warren's face as he nearly vomits out of fear. . .
Everything except for the slightly corny G-rated dialogue. . .
Yesterday I saw "American Tail" in an unscheduled 35mm showing (the theatre was planning on showing "Fievel Goes West",) seeing the movie on screen was a sight to behold (especially during 'Somewhere Out There' and the Giant Mouse of Minsk)
@ForbiddenDouchebag WHAT. THEATER. DO. YOU. GO. TO?!! THAT'S AWESOME!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS??? DO THEY SHOW NIMH and ADGTH as well?? Tell me where this little slice of heaven is!!!
@cgsilverscreen2020 The Pacific Cinematheque in Vancouver. They do this Cinema Sunday thing every third Sunday of the month. A month before "American Tail", they showed "NIMH", they have no plans on showing "All Dogs Go to Heaven" though. August the 15th is "Labyrinth" and in September, "Babe" will be shown.
Boy! How Would You Like To See THAT Baby Pull A Sled!? Providing That The Tail Doesn't Interfere With The Sled Operator's Field Of Vision Or The Transfer Case In Any Way.
What I meant was, A truck and tractor pulling sled. And by transfer case, I meant the weight box that increases the weight on the tractor or truck as a pull is made. NOT a snow sled, snowmobile, or horse-drawn sleigh. Or even as Santa would have pulled by reindeer.
i remember when i saw that first. i was hiding under a pillow, then every other time i saw the movie i'd hide for that part... now i look at it and its not that scary!
I wasn't scarred of this as a child. I thought it was ugly but I didn't shit in my pants. But now I love this part. It's my favorite part of the movie.
Man, Don Bluth was the shit! I remember him when I was little, and how much he thought children could take. Man, they just don't make 'children's' fare like they used to.
Don, o Don. Where are you when we need you? You would be perfect to make a Warhammer 40,000 movie.
I feel ya there, pal. He's not trying anymore because people thought his movies were too dark. Luckily I heard he's doing Dragon's Lair Movie next year.
@TheHollywoodGenie OH HELLZ YES!! A 40K movie would be awesome. But knowing nowadays films, it would be computer-animated, rather than hand-drawn, which I prefer, because then the entire character's face moves when they talk, not just their mouth.
Oh God, I remember that unholy monstrosity. Remember, kids, slightly exposed cleavage does horrible things to the mind. This mechanical, fire-spewing, soul-eating, dream-raping roaring harbinger of hell is completely kid friendly. What's worse is this was done by rotoscoping, meaning there was actually a model of this thing which the animators traced over. Some poor kid will probably run across it and die of terror.
>>>>>>>"Isn't it interesting how something that use to frighten you so much as a kid is now something you find incredibly awesome when you are much older?"
Yeah, that's how I feel about the original Doctor Who's opening credits.
I'm sorry it's taken me awhile, but I've finally posted the entire scene. It's the latest video upload on my profile (sorry it won't let me post links here).
