  • I've been practising with Craig at Kingston University in1995-97. He was yet 4th Dan and has been one of the best teacher I ever Had.

He was fast, strong, perfectly controlled and real impressive.

I wish him all my best and send my best thougths !

    Jérôme (from france)

  • All you guys posting negative comments make me laugh. Im pretty sure that if this guy was in front of you, you would all crap yourselves. HAHAHAHA.

  • to be fair the fella on the left defo looks like thumb man lol

  • how many blackbelts does he need so that he can tie the ends in the front?

  • I think anyone criticising should put up a video of themselves doing what Craig does here and let us see the comparisons. Craig Raye was an Uchi Deshi of Master Enoeda. Now anyone whom ever trained with Master Enoeda would jsut say 'That's good enough for me' because they know Enoeda Sensei DID not suffer fools - so to be allowed into his personal tutelage for the years and years Craig did is something very special. Go train with him and watch how fluidly he moves!

  • To be honest I don't care if the big guy was a favoured student of Enoeda, or that he's a bouncer. When I watch him do katas or basics, he just looks slow, sloppy, and seriously lacking in agility. The guy needs to lose weight and get back in shape.

  • @sbowesuk Shotokan is always about speed

  • @lasvagi1 Damn, i didn't know that. I won't try to argument with you because I don't really know who is actually bad or good, therefore i can't disagree nor agree.

  • I doesn't see nothing accurate here, yes he is quit quick for a man in his high and weight but accurate?! - NOT AT ALL

For sure his size and speed help himm in his job as a bouncer but it's a long way to accurate Technique.

    Accuracy is something else...

  • @Claudiu71 plus he is also only a shodan (1st degree black belt) as you can see the orange writing on his belt. hes about average for being a shodan

  • bajan mucho la guardia, hay que ser mas intuitivo en el pateo....saludos

  • movimientos innecesarios, ademas faltan principios, ikiachi, vibracion..., principio pendular etc.... cuidense

  • Hay que descender "varios" kg y más entrenamiento. No se puede tener esa imagen para mostrar.El ejemplo es lo escencial.Suerte

  • what the hell is that? they ignoring one of the basic rules: dont take ur eyes off the opponent

  • he is too fat

    is doing unnecessary movements

    bye!

  • Notice the bald guys tell anyone? He raises his front arm everytime before he launches a kick. Someone should really tell him so he is harder to read.

  • POOR!

  • should keep hands up while kicking

  • Craig Raye is quality. Sorry but thos kicks are kickass fast and smooth as hell. Obviously he would set them up with hands in a real fight. it's a drill.

  • No guard no play..

  • It's nice to show us how your front arm gives us an opening on your ribs right before the kick.

  • Big guy has strong front foot kicks. Impressive. But zero guard (you will get picked off too easily). And zero Zanshin. What happens if your kick gets blocked? You are right in front of your opponent in no stance. You would get tackled too easily. C'mon. There is much more to karate than just a limb striking.

  • This is a demo of how to throw a front leg mawashi geri. That's all. What does guard and zanshin have to do with it. It's purely a drill. If one is to learn the mechanics of the kick why complicate it with other things.

  • what a ridiculous comment! guard and zanshin are part of EVERY technique. Doing a drill without them is not doing the drill properly. Drills become habits and habits become instincts for real combat. Having no guard or zanshin in a demo means he doesnt understand the concepts... hence, there is no way he would have them in a fight. its not complicated to use them, its simply a part of how the technique works

  • Thanks for your reply but I respectfully disagree. I always hear people talking about instincts for 'real combat'. What is this 'real combat' everyone refers to? War? The 'streets'? A bar brawl? The guy is showing the uninitiated the mechanics of kizame mawashi full stop. Nothing else. Traditional MA's can get so bogged down in specifics that sometimes we miss the point. Hit the other guy as hard and as fast as you can.

  • When you train, you must always simulate that you are in a situation where you are in danger and you have no other means of getting out unless you use your karate... Zanshin is possibly the most important element that distinguishes sport and self protection. The lack of stance indicates a lack of zanshin and concentration. If the drill is for sports side of karate, fair enough.. but if it is for self-protection, he shouldnt be teaching it in that way.

  • Please, I don't know about you, but I'm preparing for the zombie invasion.

  • wrong

  • whats with all the arm action ????

its not supposed to be tkd

  • yeah i remember in my karate classes when we'd be practicing something the teacher would go around and kick us and we had to harden our body, it was cool.

  • there isn't the kizami!!

  • train yourself to take hits, that's awesome.

  • i was always taught to keep my head the same height(low fight stance) and my front elbow a fist width away from my ribs and fore arm staight and cocked incase need to counter or block. but very nice, good form.

  • Should keep eye contact whilst bowing. . . . .but apart from that, quite nice.

  • why should you keep eye contact? If you don't trust them then why on earth are you bowing?

  • @justkarate Listen, if Mr Miyagi from The Karate Kid says you should keep eye contact while bowing, it must be right! Never doubt Mr Miyagi!

  • omg! he used to teach me! i havnt seen him in a while acutally! since lesson dates changed! hi sensei craig!

  • If a guy that big can kick with that much speed and flexibility, I have no excuse for when my kicks get sloppy. Better get my slack a** back in the dojo more frequently.

  • I was thinking the same - he's quite a big fellow, but quick and flexible with it - very impressive!

  • to all commentators, he is Gregg, one of the most favourite students of late Enoeda sensei.

professionally he is a bouncer thus he is practicing in real fights what he is preaching therefore dont get deceived. he can move fast and accurately .

the guy is lethal and cool as a cucumber.

  • Hi name is Craig Raye and yes he was a favoured student of Enoeda sensei

  • Wow. The guy is big and fast. Wouldn't want to b hit by his mawashi.

  • Ok, it's sloppy. So? This isn't really kumite! It's more like some kind of randori. It's just a slow form of fighting to show (and learn) how kumite works at all. You don't have to be fast or strong. It's more about learning the funktion of a move.

  • its a good mawashi

  • He was graded by and trained by Master Enoeda himself thats how he is a Black Belt

  • @strawberrymaggot Haha, now THATS disrespectful. REALLY direspectful, truly one who doesn't know what he's talking about.

  • matt, the lower dan has a very good technique, the thing is that he is less lean then the higher dan, he has trouble getting his feet to the hight of the head.

  • i love the kicks, am a karate student and i love karate.Nsi Harry

  • Very nice kicks. =D

  • Lower dan drops his guard too much and he's too heavy on his feet

  • Can we have longer videos? 5 to 10 mins? Good stuff!,If a person can"t learn from this I don"t know what or why he"s studying

  • look at ther difference between the young guy and the shidoshi's technique

  • nice kicking technique!

  • Yup,

The lower dan keeps dropping his guard when he kicks. This is bad form and dangerous for him.

  • actually it looks like they are both dropping guard, i would like to see how that kick would work on someone with some decent ground game. it wouldnt.

  • Yes because going to the ground in a real fight is a good idea.

  • actually i wounder even how he is a black belt.

  • He was graded by and trained with Master Enoeda himself thats how he is a Black Belt

  • he is a blackbelt , but really , his form is very sloppy , he is not strong , not fit, u know .

  • lol the little guys hands are all over the shop
