  • great presentation.. congrats keep it up ..

  • I love how they try to spin turd handouts to the youth into pure gold. If it were not the case that youths will lose substantially at the HC table, Obamacare would not have been possible because its primary funding mechanism is mandates, buying restrictions, and gerrymandered coverage designed to fleece the youth and bailout the obese, smoking baby boomer generation. But throw in a few grains of salt, and suddenly the dems are pro-youth again! Hilarious!

  • I don't likey fed government loan

  • It is exactly like endentured servitude. It is exactly like share cropping too.

  • Isn't this how the student loans already work? WTF? Free money you don't have to pay back?

  • @MaicoMoon umm loan means you have to pay it back dude.. maybe you are thinking of student grants??

  • Ana for president!

  • anas boobs greatest boobs ever period

  • Love the bottom, but they are a tad low...

  • I do not agree with TYT.

Equality of Opportunity, yes agree, but it should benefit the system and society as a whole as well. Or else it might risk lowering the EO for people that comes afterwords (cost/gain).

"Tying" highly educated people "down" for a while until there settled is beneficial for the system so that they dont leave the moment there finished withe the education.

For lower level schooling it should be free, but for higher you should be forced to take up loans, or similar.

  • i been fucking saying that for years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

everyone of my speech in school or paper or essay or letter to the school was about this topic!!!!!!!!!!

  • the more money students get the more colleges will charge...

its basic economics unless you put price restrictions its pointless

  • What is the progressive explanation for high tuitions?

  • Also because the debt is guaranteed, the banks end up lending much more of it than they otherwise would.

It allows universities to raise their prices without losing students, and kids end up graduated six figures in debt.

  • Cenk is getting it though.

The government subsidies are also the reason the tuitions are so high.

Its simple supply and demand. When you subsidize something you get more of it. More demand = higher prices.

  • Anas comment at the beggining was so ill informed.

  • I worked 50 hours a week and slept in my car for six months to finish my bachelor's degree and pay my way through college, despite a tour in Iraq and getting an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps Reserves. I've got tens of thousands of dollars in loans and no job in my field so far. But you know what, it is all my fault, I should have worked harder. The government shouldn't give me any help because that would be socialism. The TV says socialism is bad. :(

  • No! I dont think cars should cost 15 000$,, its just stupid! Why dont the gov´t just make the prices lower! oooh, they world is just stupid...

Thats basically what she is saying.

  • Starting this year, Social Security is in deficit, and treasury has to pay off by printing money. HC Bill did not go far enough to address the source, reduce waste and make health care affordable. They could have allowed nurses to practice some of the work done by doctors at fraction of costs.

  • i live in Ireland, i left my higher bachelors degree with €3000 of government money in my pocket, i lazed about for a while and used the money to start my own business.

if i was a american i would fucking kill myself.

  • This part of the bill sounds great. Except this is the Federal Government were talking about. These people will screw up a free lunch. lol

  • What are you worried about?

Student loans when ran under the federal government worked EXTREMELY well, student loans when privatized became HORRIBLE!

Your paranoia is based on ignorance & assumptions, if you were that "concerned" about the bill you would have read it but why read something when your imagination can make up something sinister&fearful.People who say "the bill is so big, whats in there?"are retarded or can't read. There isn't any "hidden text" that you need special glasses to read

  • step in the right direction. It's only a little into his second year.

  • Ana has nothing useful to contribute to any discussion.

  • For real, i'm an independent that leans left but God i Can't Stand That dummy.

  • The bill is pro Insurance companies just look at the stock market. Insurance policies went up! FUCK THE BILL NO PUBLIC OPTION NO FUCKING CHANGE

  • I would much rather have high amounts on grants than get a loan. I made a vow in never to get a loan because I don't want to have a huge debt on my name after graduating. Scholarships don't cover much at all, and it's frustrating to get a grant from financial aid.

  • well atleast it didn't go down... doesnt the bog cover me for when i transfer 2 a 4 year. how much is tuition for fullerton!?!?!? i thought it would be affordable

  • This No-Public-Option No-Single-Payer Insurance-Lobbyist-Written Bill gives the Government the power to hold ALL OF US Down while their Best Friends The Insurance Industry RAPES EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US TO DEATH.

  • @halcyon0830

    FRIGHTENED

    DEMORALIZED

    UNEDUCATED

    &

    UNHEALTHY

YOU COULD AT LEAST BE MORE ORIGINAL THAN GLENN BECK

SIMPLY SPEWING WHAT ROGER AILES WANTS YOU TO. You've been FOXED in the ASS.

    Stupid fuck.

  • I really, unfortunately, dislike Ana.

  • why?

  • @toppless09 She's not analytical. Here, for instance, her comment is that she wishes there were more Pell Grants. Well, okay, I wish cable TV were free. This is a bill about student loans. The depth of her analysis is, "I wish it had been this." Also, did you see her comments on Epic Beard Man? Offensive.

  • @greg5566 who cares who you dislike. She's not dumb and she is very good looking in a normal way. A little baby fat here, a few too many D's in her cup size. But she 's hot.

  • @eqsmooth Dear stupid person. Exactly two inches above your comment toppless09 ASKED ME WHY.

She's not dumb, exactly, just not insightful. She is mildly attractive in a plain way. She has nice titties (which I've mentioned before). But she's not "hot." I'd be happy taking her home to mother, she just drags Cenk's show to a grinding halt.

However, wait a minute. I never even said anything about her looks--why are you objectifying her?

  • ana looks great

  • my problem with this is why do we expect everyone needing college to be educated. what the hell are they doing k-12. how bout we worry more on the public education system we have now and fixing it instead of expanding the mess. personally i have seen no difference in the classes i take in college to the ones in high school they are a joke. no cares about education but just being able to pass a test and then who cares.

  • College is a sign of status. It is the major tool in our society to separate everyone who has graduated high school, so someone who graduates Harvard will have a huge advantage (supposedly) over someone who graduates from a community college, not to mention taking into consideration the level of difficulty between majors and school types (community college, state schools, Ivy League, etc.)

If costs continue to rise, it will become a true form of elitism again rather than equal opportunity.

  • this is the worst time to be trying to get into or pay for college.

  • Government takeover of student loans will only lower the value of education. If more people are college educated, less employers are going to care about a diploma. Basic supply and demand.

Also, schools will jack up their tuitions to the moon. If the government is paying for a students education, colleges will be able to charge more because the students don't even have to pay for it.

Why are these so-called liberals so economically retarded?

  • "Government Takeover", lol. There is no government takeover of student loans. Maybe private companies and banks should learn a lesson from their beloved capitalism and actually compete to provide affordable (low interest) loans for students and they'd have nothing to worry about. Well, I guess the CEOs would have to worry about only having one private jet.

  • You missed the point. I was not saying that there is a government takeover, I was just pointing out the failures of Keynesian economic theory.

Private loan companies were providing affordable loans before the government started subsidizing the education system.

When government started paying for companies' losses, college tuition went up, loans became more expensive, students got more into debt. People used to be able to get good jobs just with a high school diploma.

    Ah, government.

  • Well. Here in Norway, which is supposedly the best country to live in, and we have single payer healthcare, one of the highest gdp per capita in the world, here we still uses plasters. There are so many fees to buy that our cars is about the oldest in the world. We are socialists, and yes, me make a lot of money (oil), but there are few new products here, products that is quite old in the US. Competition is needed.

  • Ana is so hot. Look at her breastes busting out her shirt.

  • this is part of the reconciliation bill it hasn't passed the senate yet and the Gop are gearing up to use it to kill the reconciliation bill.

  • Yeah free education is kind of un American. I can kind of see free health care, but pretty soon people are going to be expecting free cars and free houses, where does it stop.

I'm gonna get thumbs down for this comment.

  • I know this is off-topic, but portability across state lines is in the bill right?

  • Did I hear Cenk right? Are there "Black" colleges in America?

  • LOL "That's just the biggest wang, wang, wang....ever".

It's not just about how to pay for the school, it's about how do you support yourself for the 4 years while attending?

Rent, car (and car insurance even if you own your car outright), food, gas, electric, internet connection (required to complete your work). It really adds up, and working that part time job in between classes wont cut it.

No family help? Not a genius? Good luck with trying to get that degree.

  • Re. Anna red shirt. TYT got my vote now.

  • using Cenk's argument about the savings, why not have the Gov take over ALL of what free enterprise cos do now?

if 61 billion in savings are good, why not go for more? should there be limits as to how much of a good thing Gov should get??

  • Well, it will just be funny when the generation that spends 20 income earning years paying off their education has shit to retire on... you think today's elderly is pissed?

  • 350 bucks is nothing? When I qualifyed for a Pell grant, I took out the max and needed 300 more because I needed two new tires to replace the ones that got worn out going back and forth to college!

  • YEAH! Why don't we make everything free? Who wants to pay for anything? People will just work for the greater good! Get real. The people who work hard enough to afford an education deserve it. If it were free for everyone, no one would take it seriously. You appreciate things you earn and make sure you don't waste them. Not saying there shouldn't be help of some sort for people who really need it, but it shouldn't just be "magically" free for everyone.

  • Obama is so lukewarm

  • she is so hot... damn!

  • How is $5550/year enough for school anyways!? My HIGH SCHOOL tuition was like twice that! I can not imagine how much my University tuition is. Thank god I have parents who can pay my education for me. Its sad that not everyone can afford school. You can't put a price on education! I totally agree with Ana - it's not fair to be thousands and thousands of dollars in debt after only getting a Bachelors degree!!!!

  • @TheSocial411

    high school tuition ???

  • I know someone that used the money and buy a 3000.00 computer that they didn't even need. This money should be used for education not toys.

  • Funny how they term the nationalizing the business of student loans, yet another private sector absorbed by the american government, as cutting out the middleman.

Why should I pay for someone to party for 4, or more likely 6, years in pursuit of a worthless useless degree. Which, upon getting despite knowing nothing, they go to work as airline stewardess or burger flipper?

They spend years being taught nothing but sensitivity and diversity seminars and being brainwashed in mult-culturalism.

  • Better to repay student debt once they attain a diploma, Stop wasting money on people that drop out !

  • The average American salary is around 30 - 40 k a year. Let's say 2.9 k a month more or less. After deductions you get around 2.3 - 2.5 k a month. In 90% of the US that's enough to pay your mortgage, your bills, your car, (about 1.5k) and have enough to lead a good life and go on vacations. It gives you freedom and mobility. Now if you add a student loan you have to pay 500 a month to, you're "up to your neck" in bills, become afraid, and never strive for more.

    I'm for free education.

  • Honestly the Ana is way off on this one.

It's not much, but its something, and where is the downside ? Sure its small, but that's not a downside.

If someone gives you $350 do you say "why did you only give me that little you cheap bastard ?" or do you say "thanks" ?

  • Public school up to Highschool is free. That still is not even the best system, because people pay school taxes that do not even have kids in school.

In Canada, you pay school taxes if you have kids. Sounds simple.

College should not be totally free. I dont think everyone should pay for everyone to that extent.

  • my tuition is going up 40 percent

  • Nothing is 'free', some resource is being used in order for a person to attend college. It would be more appropriate to ask for an education 'at the least cost to the individual'.

My wife and I currently go to a community college using Pell grants and they will end up paying for our associate's degrees with no direct out of pocket expense. ( I work for the city and she works for an insurance company so a very small amount of our taxes with everyone elses' taxes covering the rest.) Thanks!

  • usa realy confuses me

i live in scotland, in our country we get 5 years higher education paid for us no matter what, plus we are also entitled to apply for state-provided loans to pay for living costs, some of which is means-tested

with 5 years of university i can get a degree, i get a good job off of that, and then the gov. gets its investment in me back by more tax off me later when i have that good job and loans are paid back at 9% of any income over £15,000 after i leave college

  • 4billion$ to black and community college-s-

    current max grant $5550

720, 720 more students can get the maximum award due to that $4billion then.

There are about 15-17 million students, so adding that money helps about 5% of all students pay tuition. Plus we need to take into account, what %age of students qualify for the grants, and how many who qualify they turn down. It is a positve thing, even if small.

Babysteps, but in the right direction.

  • @Diskatopia you can say its baby steps but when time goes on congress wont be looking on how to fund higher education anymore and then the problem goes on the back burner and the next things you will know its 2020 talking about raising the pell another 350 to already...with 15-20% tuition hikes... not even including cost of living as well going up. $350/2=$175 a semester... maybe that will cover the water bill or maybe a month or two of gas to get to school :)....making baby steps does sometimes

  • I should live in Belgium its free education there.

  • Free education is one of the very few ways of getting equal oportunity for all. It's a simple fact that thankfully my, and a lot of other countries have gotten, a very very long time ago. To bad it hasn't reach americans yet. In some ways you guys still live in the 18th century.

  • The major cause of the dramatic increase in the cost of a college education is the dramatic increase in student loans. basic economic theory says that the schools will use as much money as is available. the dramatic increase in student loans in the 90's seemed like a good idea but what it really did was increase the pool of money universities had at their disposal and drive costs through the roof.

  • I definetley feel like an endentured servant to the banks that gave me my loans, especially now that I am going to have a hard time finding a job that will help me pay the $450 a month loan payments for the next ten years

  • No wonder we have US companies looking for workers in Sweden !!

US youth don´t stand a chance against EU youth ..

War war war is the American way..that´s how Scandinavian teenagers know you today

  • Pell Grants were always small change anyways. The loans like the stafford loans are what cover pretty much every single major student cost anyways.

  • Aren't they increasing the pell grants per student 350$, but also increasing the NUMBER of students who receive pell grants? I thought that was the case. Maybe you missed that.

  • the thing is that if u r poor enough u can get a grant the problem is 350 dollars is nothing and like they where saying education should be free to everybody because without an education u can get good work so if u do it without schools being free u have the problem of the rich getting richer and that needs to fucking stop

  • Yea I hate the US higher education system. As long is its built on a university system thats for-profit, then its always gonna produce individuals who are slaves to the machine.

  • Ana you're beautifully right, there's no reason, no fucking reason, why you should have to get into debt to get an education.

  • You know.. You should try the system we have in Norway. Free schools.

And Norway have some of the best engineers in the world, and compared to population we are one of the most educated country in the world.

But of course, it would be very hard to implement this in the US.

We take loans in Norway too, but its not to pay for the school, its to pay for rent and food. And its a cheap government loan.

The best part, if you pass all your classes, the government pay half the loan.

    Try it ; )

  • ...Do you have to be a native Australian? (Meaning if i move there and obtain citizenship would i get to have that fucking sweet deal?)

  • Well, at least the Pell grants didn't get their award amounts DEcreased, which is what I figured was going to happen.

  • "..but don't worry, we'll give you that burger on Tuesday."

Haha. Where do you come up with these catch-phrases? :)

  • It seems simplistic, but, that phrase "Equality opportunity is the most important thing. That's what America is supposed to be all about." really marks the pinnacle of disagreement between liberals and conservatives in this country. What does equal opportunity mean to you? This question alone could determine your entire view on American Democracy.

  • Tuition does not increase not even one quarter as high as Ana would make you believe.

I'm not sold on Ana's argument here. Although it is peanuts... it's still an increase for now.

    We'll see though.

  • My undergraduate degree cost me around $2,000 a semester. Viva socialist Canada!

  • well, all i can say bout that is im almost done with college so i aint trippin.

  • Everyone wants something for free. What's wrong with paying for things you get? I was from a lower-lower class home and worked my backside off to get to middle-middle and now everyone has their hand in my pocket. I didn't put my hand in anyone else's pocket for what I've achieved in my life. I love that they've taken the loans away from corporations, but quit bitching about grants. You want your education paid for, then pay for it.

  • ''You filthy little African. You want to learn? PAY FOR IT'' Thats what happens when we apply your ideas to the rest of the world.

  • "Lost enough of this"..FUUUUUUUUUUUCCCKKK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • I am in massive debt for school. I don't think I will be able to pay it off in my life time. My children, who I went to college to give a better life, will have to suffer because I have to pay off these loans. I think I will flee the country. Save money now for your children's college education!

  • Im a student, the first 120 seconds made me very happy. The other part; jeeeez.

  • Here we have a Catch-22.

We cannot have a "free" higher education system without student loan debt since it has to be subsidized b someone. Someone is paying the bill. Instead the gov't need to get out of subsidizing education since their grants and loans incentivize colleges to raise tuition. When your main customer is the gov't, you'll ALWAYS have a buyer, regardless of price

If the government wasn't involved in education like it was in the past (Pre-GI Bill) Tuition would be MUCH lower.

  • dang, flcfan, let's just scrap k-12 too, since costs will be lower. Why stop at college? Let's go 3rd world all the way.

  • You COULD do that and take a risk or you can go with a proven system that Uk, Netherlands, Japan, Germany, etc uses to put out some of the top educated people in the world and involve the government and just have it be more efficient. Seems like a no brainer to me.

  • Ana and Cenk play off each other so well

  • there is no such thing as a "free" education

i would support "free" college education for students who meet higher standards than others. their GPA or SAT scores could be used to determine whether or not the government pays for their college

  • @182511419139208: Actually you're wrong. The first schools were entirely staffed by volunteers.

  • $5000 only goes so far. For me, it helps because my tuition is around 14,000 (state school), but it does almost nothing for tuition at private schools, which run upwards of 30,000.

  • The Pell Grant currently pays for 1 of my classes a year (out of the t 12 classes I take per year). The $350 dollar increase won't do anything for me.... Oh well. At least I still currently afford to go to college, for now.

  • This bill will be an EPIC FAIL and ensure that Obambi gets PWNED by Sarah Palin in 2012! We need President Sarah Palin for she will keep the government out of banks and education loans. Government has no place in this and she will completely undo all of this bill's damage!

  • @ecwaufisxtreme Sarah Palin is an idiot who is not qualified to be in office. "Government has no place in this" my ass, government is there to take care of its citizens.

  • Pell BARELY pays for a couple classes, if that, and MAYBE a couple books. The higher education system in the country is crap and way way overpriced.

  • The Australian solution isn't so bad.. You got to university and rack up debt but you only pay it off once you actually get a job and earn over a certain amount and then the government automatically debits it from your pay. Basically if you don't have a job or only have a menial job you don't have to pay it back and the interest is quite low.

  • THANKS FOR BRINGING IN THIS TOPIC AND SHARING UR VIEWS. I 100% agree with both of u :)

  • gov causes tuition inflation

  • Ana's breasts look fantastic in this video. God I'd love to motorboat her.

  • Burger on Tuesday! Nice Popeye reference :) Those are rare.

  • not to mention pell grants are only available for people with incomes under 50k.

  • 350 for 10 years? Wtf. My tuition went up 600 this year.

  • so be smart enough to go to a school that doesn't cost 100k, wow, I learned that before I got my degree even!

  • Subscriiibbe. You know you want tooo!!!

  • Democrats who Voted Against This Bill, promised Constituents that they will NOT hand them over to Insurance (who only profit from NOT providing healthcare to customers who pay Extreme premiums FOR NOTHING), this is what this Lobbyist-written Obama Health Bill does. These Patriotic Democrats who VOTED AGAINST this Lobbyist-Written Bill promised constituents they WILL ONLY VOTE FOR A BILL THAT CONTAINS A STRONG PUBLIC OPTION, OR THEY WILL ONLY VOTE FOR SINGLE-PAYER HEALTHCARE (MEDICARE FOR ALL)

  • Dear clueless TYTs,

Please refer to Peter Schiff explaining why college loans are the very REASON WHY college tuition is so expensive!

There are no market forces at work forcing prices to come down!

Schiff: "If it wasn't for student loans, tuitions would be falling every year!"

  • @RAMKING61 you know where i can get that information Peter Schiff put out out?

  • @danieljval Geekpolitics or Schiffreport

Just google: Peter Schiff student loans

  • I LOVEEEE tyt inside jokes like shwang wang wang because no one in real life knows what the hell im saying

  • It sucks how much money i'm spending on my bachelor's, and i may not even get a good job. To get the good jobs now, you need a master's. The bachelor's degree has become the new high school diploma.

  • Cenk to anna: ok before we get to ur complaints, i just want to say the good part about this bill.

    lol...anna just got stomped over

  • Lol at J Wellington Wimpy reference.

  • Cenk + titties + thorough political analysis = news I can fucking get next too.

Nice to have you back, dude. You were missed.

  • I don't get what the downside is. Basically nothing changes. Ana's argument is that they are not doing MORE for students which is not the point of the bill. If nothing changes for the student + 61 billion is saved, this is a victory only.

  • this is the same principle, students getting loans from banks, as the FED is to the government..we need to get rid of the FED and save trillions..SS was robbed by the Reagan and 2 Bushs administrations..a college education will soon be only for the well off..we could educate the everyone in the country with the money the DOD can't account for.. on Sept 10,2001 Cheney reported 2.3 trillion was unaccounted for by the DOD

  • even if we put everyone through higher education, some really sharp people would still be picking up trash and flipping burgers

  • @manonthemount key word is some instead of most

  • it's funny how it works out that way

  • School doesn't make you sharp...

  • @manonthemount

Not everyone would make it to higher education, however.

  • The loans should be free only for people that ACTUALLY graduate in good standing, not drop out 5 times like Sarah Palin.

  • So a intellect or even someone of average intelligence who had to quit school and get a GED because they had to work to support a sick parent or for some other reason should be denied college grants just because they didn't graduate high school with honors? Thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard. polynotsmart

  • LOL

  • public higher education should be free!

  • We have to totally rethink education not just how we pay for it.

  • The T-Baggers are a PERFECT example of why!

  • Yep, the world is playing musical chairs when it comes to the low paid dirty jobs.

Europe is educating the shit out of everyone whether they can get jobs or not, the chinese and indians are going crazy too. Walk into any top univrsity and its like shanghi. Google right now (C++ help) and you will be hard pressed to find a non-indian name. I can see America becoimg the new Taiwan and the right wingers still won't understand whose to blame when it happens.

  • The problem is that there is not enough jobs out there for all the people graduating from college. You have a lot of college-educated people doing jobs that do not really require a college education.

  • @FightTheCorporations Yeah don't you love it the way greed can f##k a persons life?

  • @FightTheCorporations College education isn't just for jobs though. It's for understanding the world and helping one expand the way they think. Most jobs dont' really "require" a college education, they just use that as the bar. Most jobs could train the people onsite. Other than like super technical/science type stuff.

  • @FightTheCorporations Great point, the problem is two fold.

One, after graduating studants have massive debts that need to be repaid, thus forcing them to seek immediate employment.

Two, there aren't enough good jobs out there.

Without the studant loan debts, graduates would be free to wait until they could get a better job. Plus, they'd have more money to spend which stimulates the economy and creates more jobs.

  • i agree the lack of jobs is a concern. however a better educated population can better face problems than a bunch of uneducated folks making noise holding up sings and offering no solutions.education is the key to the future.

  • That's very true. It's sad that education has to cost an arm and a leg, yet most jobs don't require a degree from you to be hired. Makes you wonder "what's the point?"

  • absolutely best news show on the air, ever.

  • I voted for you guys today

  • woot

  • Best news show anywhere.
