People say, why did he died at 9/11? it has nothing to do with the movie. But it has everything to do with the movie, indeed that is what the whole movie is about. When you say there were 1000 people or 2000 people who died at 9/11, it doesn't matter, it's just a number. The makers of the movie wanted to show that it does matter, that every person who died had a family, had a life and had a story. To give the people who died a face, they showed us one of the thousand stories.

He leaves to go to his father's office and when he arrives, he rides the elevator up to the 92nd-floor. As he waits for his father, he looks out the window and helpleslly watches American Airlines Flight 11 hit the building and dies in what is now known as 9/11.
They weren't fighting actually. Not at the end. They had just woken up together and he kisses her and said he had to go to his dad's office so they say "I love you" (good thing!) and then he leaves... and... yeah. That was right after they got back together after their big fight. I cried!! <3

I've already seen the movie so it doesnt effect me, but I know that if I hadnt seen it, I wouldnt want the beautiful ending ruined because it takes away from the significance of the movie. just throwing it out there.
@twilightzanessalover the ending definitely stirred emotions. But I'd like to think it also left some hope behind. Tyler mentioned the Gandhi quote several times, the one about whatever you do in life being insignificant, but you must do it anyway. Tyler lived a short, rather tumultuous life, but touched the lives of the people he left behind in such significant ways. Allie's smile at the end, as she overcame her trauma to ride the subway, proved it.
Robert is the best actor for this movie!!!
