I agree, the real KTU, KISS & BLS were the real battles stations, because one would always try to out do the other, and what made it confusing, is that sometimes, DJ's would change stations....and would later would come up with new mixes for the same songs.. this is one of those classic mixes, thank u for posting this.
I agree this was the BEST Time in NYC radio. They ALL had great remixes of the hottest songs from the clubs. That is also because the radio personalities like Frankie Crocker went to the clubs to get the latest from people like Larry Levan (of the Garage). Then people like "Animal" who did some of KTU's remixes would be a club DJ anyway so naturally he brought that flair to radio. The Latin Rascals weren't club DJs but they DID a heck of a job on songs that played in the clubs!!!
This was a great time in NY radio in the 80's. The 3 big WKTU 92, WBLS 107.5 and WRKS (98.7 Kiss) were in such competition each station would have exclusive remixes for various songs. This was a great marketing tool to get the listeners to hear their favorite remixes on their stations.
NICE!!
