  • Sorry: 23 years ago :)

  • In Budapest... oh my god... how cool.. where is that place and what were you doing over there... just curious...

  • @Starlitblond

Budapest is Hungary's capital. Just a bit right from Austria (if you look at a map of Europe properly) At that time I lived there. And so do I now.

  • @Starlitblond , Honey, Budapest in in the cpatiol of the country of Hungary in eastern Europe. Did you ever study geography like maybe in the fifth grade? But, I do agree this concert was awsome.

  • Folks, it sounds sooooo good!

  • A true genius. I loved him since the Geniss days. He is one of the true artist still working in rock.

  • Ten Oscar´s for You Peter.... You´re the best musician on the world.....

    ( form Canary Islands)

  • The last part gives me the goosebumps... I wish I could be there to watch it live.

Great song, one of his best. Bravo.

  • このライブは男性みんな頭そったのね

  • E' sempre uno dei più grandi mi da delle sensazioni bellissime.

  • This song was great in the Miami Vice episode Stone's War and I like it a lot.

  • TONY LEVIN!!!

  • Tony is the god of bass.

  • Yeah !!!!

  • This song is so great, who knows how I could purchase it ? thanks!

  • Tony Levin, Bass,, is using the Funky fingers to create a "percussive" effect. This was originally used for the recording of Big Time, also by Levine.

  • Don't forget the co-conspirator Jerry Marotta.

  • Tony Levin on bass! Incredible song!

  • malgrés les années qui passent, Peter Gabriel reste toujours un génie avec une voix encore plus chaleureuse. Je l'ADORE!!!

  • damn. peter looked 30years younger 10 years ago. his vocie got alot heavier. i love it!!

  • It happens- at fifty I looked like 40.

    At 53 I look like...shit!

The youth potion still hasn't been discovered.

  • LOL love it

  • whats those thing on the bass players fingers??

  • super super super

  • WOW!!! Great performance of great song!

  • "Red Rain" was nominated for a GRAMMY in 1995 - category : "Best Rock Vocal" (the "Secret World Live"-version).

This song is one of Curt Smith`s (The Cure) favourite songs from the 80ies.

  • Mate, it's Robert Smith from the Cure. Now go to every repeated post you've done and make it right.

  • Even all the Queen champions cannot make a single sound as the waves of nations scream.

Don't leave us. Some waves are sounding like you Peter.

  • SUCKS, cause I can't find this on itunes... they only version they have this Vitamin String Quartet and ill nino... epic fail.

  • @GunxxShot go 2 the library y pay 4 music lol

  • This is my fav song Peter does, love it!What an awe inspiring performance!

  • what does red rain mean

  • I saw the final Floud tour and as massive as the shows were, the fact that the music was never overshadowed by the effects led me to believe that that was as far as a show could be taken & nobody would ever get close.

Then I caught this PG tour... And it was real close! Seeing Peter change over the years with this calm, wise professorial sort of vibe. Perfection! The band, as always was stellar & his choice of Blind Boys of Alabama as opener: Genius!

PG tours are mandatory for me!

  • Epic tune. Fifty years from now, this will still work just fine. Thanks for posting!

  • I don't know why....but Peter Gabriel has always a great sound

  • What an amazing song. This is one of those crafted pieces that touches on a personal level in a way that is felt more then can be expressed in words. At least imho !!

  • Peter, Master of the Universe. An Artist.

  • @lukadamus ...d'accordissimo (agree)!!!

  • It's taken from the album SO. Great song from Peter Gabriel and Co.

  • i think the older pete gets the better his voice gets..........

  • actually.......i think your right, ive never noticed

  • does peter gabriel do a song called take me home?

  • No, Phil Collins.

  • take me home from genesis phil collins...:))

  • WOW, i never get tired of Tony Levin.

His timings and phrasings are unique.

    so unpredictable but fitting.

  • I'll second your kudos on Tony ... any idea what those extra long finger thingies he's got on his right hand are? finally - a good close shot at 5:00, where they look like drum sticks (!)

  • Tony invented these. They are called Funk Fingers.

  • I think they're called funk fingers. They're supposed to simulate hitting a bass with drum sticks.

  • What an amazing talent! My alltime favourite Peter Gabriel. Thankyou.

  • Wolfgang Vock

  • PG's daughter is hot....

  • What a great video! It's nice to see a more recent show. Peter Gabriel can still deliver a very powerful and moving performance. Thanks for posting this!

  • Peter Gabriel=Genius

  • It's getting even better with the years passing by :D

  • Happy Birthday, Mr. Gabriel!

  • De los mejores conciertos que he visto en mi vida.

  • Amazing!! thanks a lot for posting

  • I just think this is an awsome vidio. I love peter gabreil' I would love to talk to him

  • Agree with comments from REELBIGAL, it is a pretty good clip, but doesn't have the "punch" and energy I've seen in other versions (check out the Peter Gabriel "Red Rain" on Letterman version - I feel its much more emotional & lively).

  • One of the best lives I have seen in a while ...

  • This is song is huge.

  • I've caught countless shows since I was a kid in the 70s, some good, some not so good, some very good, and a few truly great. This tour was truly great. That his all-star band would play so flawlessly and inspired isn't so shocking.

But we were sitting 6 rows away at eye level and could see just how much the musicians were enjoying themselves. The laughter & interaction helped create a truly magical show. I've NEVER seen ANY band have so much fun!

    Thanks for posting!

    GO SEE PG!!

  • Ouch.

  • that's pretty funny lol :)

  • Exxxcellent music made all the better with the Jan Hammer/Miami Vice link.

  • An incredible piece, I personally think that it lingers far too much in the instrumentals, giving a more jazzy feel to the song. It doesnt suit it. Despite this, the song in the main parts of the song the music is so powerful, it takes your breath away. It really adds something new to the song, and makes me envyous to know I didn't see it live. A true masterpiece. I will ensure it has its chance to shine in the near future.

  • best live voice ive ever heard

  • JUST ENJOY THE MUSIC.

You young ones are far too concerned about who did, what sounds better.......etc.

    LISTEN AND ENJOY THE MUSIC.

  • These are professionals, do not attempt to duplicate at home.

  • sounds like a plan

  • best singer of all times

  • I think this performance showcased Gabriels voice with some of the best musical talent out there ... Tony Levin and the drummer not sure who he is but appears very disciplined and Peter always has a way of picking great musical talent for his band.

A prior comment mentioned Peter appeared board ... well once you are a master and have mastered an art and stay focused it can sometimes appear as boredom to an observer... it appears to me that Peter takes his music very serious. He keeps maturing .

  • Mmm. No, I prefer Manu Katche.

  • Something in this song remember me Pink Floyd sound on Delicate Sound of Thunder.

  • I beg to differ with the the self proclaimed critics. The audio and video quality of this video is superb. Having seen Gabriel

several times I find this to be truly excellent. Mostly do to the refinements in the arrangement of this rendition. Gabriel's phasing of the melody shows he has grown musically. Also, compare the grand piano patch (in the outro) of this version to the original sythesizer, there is no comparison! This is more refined and pointed.

  • Man, Tony Levin is really throwing it down on this video...his bass playing is uncomparable...as a bass player, I just cant comprehend how he could use those funk fingers and never miss a note, especially with all of the techniques he uses..I need to feel the strings with my actual fingers. He is truly a bass master.

  • in my oppinion, this is a wonderful version.

Although i am amazed by the creativity and skills of Mr. Manu Katche, i do think that sometimes he plays a bit too much in the songs. This version is much more plain and simple, but i think it gives a deep character to the song , where the main leading power is the voice of Mr. Gabriel.

But this is only my oppinion

  • Sorry JerkSTICK that we do not have the vast Gabriel archives or concert experience as you do to compare this VERY GOOD performance to......

  • he is one of the GREATEST MUSICAN in the world!!!

  • Gabriel is an amazing live performer -- the SO tour was ridiculous it was so good, aurally and visually -- but this is weak. Tony sounds bored, and, sorry, Ged Lynch is not in Tony's league. Listen to him and a truly great drummer, Manu Katche, duel it out on the 'Secret World' version of this same song.

  • Sorry JerkSTICK that we do not have the vast Gabriel archives or concert experience as you do to compare this VERY GOOD performance to......

  • this tour was completely different.I guess Ged Lynch is the drummer here your talking about,he is the perfect drumer for a show like this.he is very disciplined and on the beat since there is tons of sequencing going on so peter needed a drummer who could perfectly play to a click track.

  • I do notice that Peter sounds just a tiny bit bored here. Seeing Peter Gabriel for the Secret World tour when he was at the top of his game would have been a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Nevertheless, this is still fantastic.

  • One of my all time favorite DVD's, everyone should buy a copy!!!

  • I love how his voice just explodes into the song at the beginning. I wish my voice was that powerful.

  • i am so impressed ,,,honestley

  • somiglia a Faletti :-)

  • I love this DVD so much.

  • Outstanding live performance! Absolutely beautiful!

  • Incredible Song!

  • Always loved this song. Peter Gabriel is an extraordinary artist. His voice sounds as great as ever. I love his passion! 5 stars

  • This man needs to go on a North American tour like yesterday.

  • Thanks for posting this. I missed this part of the video when it aired on HD somwhere. It's a long way from Genisis to the Rain falling on one's skin.

  • That bass player is kickin' all sorts holy ass!

  • Tony Levin, but you can call him Bassman.

  • I think your wrong .... Bass Master would be more like it there are only about 2 others in his class.

  • who is that singing girl?

  • I believe that's his daughter, she has toured with him before.

  • His daughter, Melanie

  • fuck yeah!! tony levin is the man!!

  • The song is marked by great angst....I can't think of anyone else who is afflicted by anxiety more than Gabriel in popular music.

  • AWESOME!!!

  • Hey, I noticed the drummer, I think, I'll have to watch it again. Peter Gabriel reminds me of my boyfriend, he's always shaving his head because he doesn't like the way his hair looks when it is growing out. Oh, I think it's called balding. I love him either way.

  • best song of peter ever

  • God this whole band is soooooo sexy! The drummer, Peter the bass player. And I was there baby! 2002

  • The drummer is named Ged lynch and is another damn good deummer who joined peters band. Manu Katche still rules

  • Thanks man

  • Does anyone know the drummers name? Because he is kick ass

  • Love peter gabriel, this is in my opinion one of his best.

  • Peter Gabriel is the greatest musician ever born, I get convinced every time I listen to his unique music, which awakens thousand emotions, makes my day........

  • You said it!

  • There is no words to describe Peter Gabriel, I am so happy for have bought this DVD ("Peter Gabriel - Growing Up Live")

He is a God of Music... Man of Peace in 2006... World Music for ever!...

  • This video is of amazing quality.

    Thanks tottiescot [:

I love this song so much, and i would love to be able to see him perform for myself. But i'm only 15, so hopefully he will perform at some point ;D

    <33

    Sounds awesome live too!!

  • just got this dvd,the whole thing is amazing from the band to the lighting and of course the songs,it's one of those concerts you wish you'd have been at.peter is unique

  • This live version is a nice change from the original, but I do miss the impending thunder storm that the percussion creates in the original. Also the tempo here seems just a little slow for Peters voice. This really is my favorite PG song. I saw him with Genesis in San Francisco around 74ish Selling England by the Pound.

  • ...I come to you defences down

With the trust of a child.....

    GRANDE PETER!!!!!!

  • Backing singer - see the likeness?

  • Which one is Melanie? B/U singer, or on the keyboards?

  • Yup, that's Melanie, one of his daughters. Pretty girl, and she looks so proud to be there.

  • whomoever did the sound mix and the recording on this one -- wow, splendid. thanks for posting. we can hear every instrument, plus Peter's famous voice, clearly.

  • cheers

  • Got a funny feeling one of the girls happens to be his daughter.....

  • This drummmer is all but sucky. He's great actually. I saw them live for four times now and he is GOOD! Peter is amazing, and so is his whole band!

  • Gabriel specifically wanted more of a pure grove man for this tour. Yes he is very good. I would have like Manu though.

  • Can someone please post the version from Secret World Live? this drummwer sucks!

  • I'll recieve 'Growing up' DVD later today... one of the best concert DVD's ever! Simply amazing!

  • No, thankfully the girls aren't bald!

  • Awesome

  • Hey bald is in these days :)

  • ....this is RED RAIN!

  • OH YEAH!!!

  • pete isnt bald, he just shaved his head

  • They're playing this song really, really slowly :D

  • The tempo is perfect

  • That's subjective....it's definitely slower than the original. Great band, although I prefer Manu Katche on drums.

  • Simply amazing!

Oh, and does anyone else notice that all the guys in the band, including Peter Garbriel himself, are bald? :P

  • the girls aint bald:P hehe
