Thanks, csxal. I'd been looking for a video to show realtrax or scaletrax switch operation since I'm looking to take the next step in DCS operation with turnouts. Great layout!
Thanks Doug. Yes I operate all 50+ turnouts with the AIU's and I also installed toggles on the layout fascia so I have an option to throw the switch if I am standing near the turnout I want to throw.
I really want scaletra

That's clever, but what if you had a train of really light MPC cars? W/o adding weight to them, they would most likely derail.

No I don't think that they would derail. The spring in the switch is very light.

Well It Has To Occasionally Or Theres No Realism Or The Fun Of Setting It Back Up.

No Derailing = No Fun

the real Cass Scenic Railroad shay 5 does not look like that

That's OK, because I am going to change the roadname to a private road.

Shay operation! It can be a derailing feature if you pull forward, then back up. Lionel switches completely flip the switch.

I find the MTH Scaletrax looks better than the Realtrax on roadbed. Scaletrax has a more prototypical look
The top types of track in my opinion are tops for O-Scale are
MTH ScaleTrax
Gargraves Track
Atlas O 21st century Track
They all have the protypical look with that darkened center rail and looks nice on either wooden ties and cement ties.

Are Scaletrax quieter than Fastrack and Atlas o? Especially Fastrack?
Thanks

I think it is but that is only my opinion. I would compare them together in person at your local hobby shop.

Do you mean getting an AIU?
pickerel101 3 years ago
that's right. i'm interested in how reliable the AIU is in operating switches. are yours run with an AIU?
DouglasVector 3 years ago
Yeah, they work really well.
