Move over MacGyver! Data's coming through. No longer are bubble gum pieces and shoelaces needed to save the day. We now have Data who can do it with only a flashlight! LOL!!!
The episode wasn't too bad, what bothered me was how the game hypnotized everyone without distinction. Every specie on the ship falling for it, even the strong mind like Picard not realizing and fighting it, and two kids alone realizing what was going on.
The sexual pleasure aspect of the game was a little creepy, too. When they made a "score" in the game (no pun intended) they got what looked like a mild orgasm. When describing the game, they said it triggered the pleasure centers of your brain.
@AmoureuxdeKOSMOS Kind of. The kids were just late to the party, after everyone else was beginning to get hypnotized. Data saved the day in the end, as Robin and finally Wesley did in fact succumb to the Game.
@Draknfyre Yes, obviously. But I assume that the way the game was "forced" on Wesley (that sounds terrible) probably happened to Picard and Worf and perhaps hundreds of crewmates off-camera at different points. I seriously doubt Wesley & Robin were the only ones suspicious of this game. In the end, they were unable to stop it (except for setting things in motion for Data to save the crew).
Any other crew would've been toast, and we would've had another "Conspiracy" story later on.
I doubt Picard was forced. All Riker had to do was walk in, say something about an interesting game he found, leave one for Picard, and later Picard would try it, and get hooked. Worf is a different matter. He isn't one for "games" like that, and could have been forced.
Remember, the writers often wrote Wesley as the "miracle kid" (a fact that also annoyed Will Wheaton) so they probably intended him to be the only one who realized what it was doing. (continued in next comment.)
(continued from previous comment) and Robin was meant to be a reoccuring character. a love interest for Wesley, so two "genius" kids would have fit into that writing. She was out after that episode (I think for scheduling conflicts) so the overall writing made it seem like it was as it was presented, two kids saving the Enterprise.
Geordie's Visor picks up many types of light, including normal light. He's not blind with the Visor, his vision is just different. One episode showed what he saw as.
Strobe lights in real life make sound. When the bulb discharges, it makes a noise. What you hear here is essentially a normal strobe light amplified, and slightly tweaked. They may have even used a strobe light for the sound effect.
Data saved the day (and the Enterprise and the whole Federation, for that matter) so many times it's just crazy. How do the other starships manage? ;^D
FEAR THE POWER OF THE STROBE LIGHT! I was expecting trippy techno music to start playing. Everyone just has that "Ow, thanks a lot asshole." look on their faces. XD
Great episode, but the ending was a cop-out. I would've liked to see Data beat the shit out of everyone, then single-handedly take control of the ship like he did in "Brothers". Then he could take it to the nearest starbase and they could de-program the crew.
If you can fix phsychotropic drug effects with flashing lights, how come there aren't a lot of dissapointedly sober people standing around in a night-club after the strobes go off?
I love how he manages to be all badass when he's armed with ... a flashlight. LOL. And Riker and Worf are both like "WTF?" and Wesley is all "Buh? Wha? Yikes!"
I've always wanted to see this clip properly. I've only ever seen the slowed down, epileptic-friendly version that's broadcast. It's like that on the DVD I take it?
well, thats what you get when you make your robots all pacifists. now if he'd have had lasers and tentacles like sentinels, he'd have made them all his bitches.
I remember that episode. The entire crew plays an addict making game by K'Tarians. The K'Tarians wanted to use it to force the crew for sabotage. But Data was able to get the entire crew rid of the game using his "ultimate weapon".
