Just watched the movie very inspirational, SA deserved this and fought hard for this remeber we had Lomu but still wasn't quite enough, SA don't let kiwis get to your head we sometimes go overboard about rugby because its our passion like yours, but at the end of the day you guyz deserved this like we desered 2011 rwc because of the shit we been thru lately, BIG UPS TO SOUTH AFRICA, we are great opponent's in rugby union ! SA, NZ, AUS rugbyz greatest playing nations !!!
The All Blacks were poisoned, just a question of whether it was deliberately or not. There was soo many of the team ill and they did apparantly move some players into a different room for a meal for some reason. Reading this 'Suzy?'. However I'm sure it was nothing to do with the Boks players, mgmt or fans. Can be no proof of anything anyway. I did also hear was an underground betting agency that stood to lose alot if ABs had won.
Seriously NZ, get over it - the AB's weren't food poisoned, they were outplayed. Stop making excuses for every WC you failed to win and accept you weren't good enough on those occassions. France have played in 3 RWC finals and have lost each time - anyone hear them pissing and moaning 10 /15 years later?? That'll be a 'no' then, eh?
It's really sad how, 15 years on, people still try to blame South Africa for food poisoning.
If they were poisoned, it wouldn't have been such a spectacular and close game - if one team was sick, there's no way they would be able to keep up in a final, let alone have to go into extra time, and have BOTH teams score in it.
And in any case, last time I checked the first time Jonah was properly tackled was by Joost van der Westhuizen.
it's really sad that the only way that South Africa could win was to poison the whole NZ team. The reason why they did it because they were piss scared of NZ and Jonah Lomu and because of political gain. Really sad :(
@doomhand98 The All Black players, management, and representatives publicly stated that the were sure that they had not been intentionally poisoned, and there has never been any evidence that has said otherwise.
@BushyX They only said that as a sporting gesture of good will. Check this out if you don't believe me: watch?v=D5iQBLgndTU. Also note the following from the official account:
"The allegation of food poisoning was later publicly backed by Rory Steyn, a former head of security for South African president Nelson Mandela. He was the security liaison for the All Blacks and reported in a book that a Far Eastern gambling syndicate was responsible for the outbreak by bribing a waitress."
@NuXta You are aware that my comment was posted 2 months ago right? At any rate who is to say Mr. Steyn did not make that statement for media attention? He was unable to show any material evidence that his claims were true. Anyways that still should not reflect poorly on South Africa if a Far Eastern gambling syndicate was in fact responsible.
@BushyX I don't see why it matters when your comment was posted - at any rate 2 months wasn't that long ago. And to counter your doubt about Mr Steyn's integrity, the accused/involved were unable to show any material evidence disproving the claims either. What motive would he have for inventing such a story on his own? It reflects poorly on those who are in denial.
@NuXta Certainly it was an extremely suspicious incident - as reported in that clip, practically the entire team fell sick the day prior to the final, and all were pretty much well the day following. Those are not standard symptoms. But I really don't want to turn this into a typically pointless exchange in which we just wind up hashing out our opinions to no good end. You believe what you will, and I will do the same. Exposing the corrupt underworld of sport hardly amounts to whingeing.
@NuXta How can they possibly show evidence that they didn't poison the team? And why should they have to anyways? If I go and accuse someone of taking 100 dollars from me, I have to prove they took it. Just because they can't disprove it doesn't make it true. At any rate there are a number of reasons to make up the story. Could have been offered money, might have wanted media attention, may have been disgruntled over his job for some reason, who knows....
@BushyX Unfortunately the match will always be clouded with suspicion, but regardless of what actually happened the result was the best thing for south africa. The All Blacks were apart of something much bigger then rugby that day.
Even though the 95 All Blacks losted I think many around the rugby world still believe they were the better team, perhaps the best ever ...
@doomhand98 booo! your is comment is a fail. AB's failed on that occasions because they got the shits from anxiety & nerves. All the whinging detract from a great game of rugby & a great story. Your life is sad. Enjoy your world cup win and stop having a sook.... ;)
Ok the kiwi's r allowed to do the haka. Should allow the south Africans to bring on Zulu warriors, that would scare the crap out of them... And any other team that dares to face them.... GO BOKKE!!
@bash22jd That would be absolutely ridiculous and disrespectful after what the whites did to the blacks during the 350 years of colonization and apartheid in South Africa. Except for Johnny Clegg and PJ Powers, no prominent white South African person has ever respectfully co-opted black culture in SA. So to co-opt a Zulu ritual for rugby would be ridiculous in any team let alone a white majority team. Anyway, the Maoris, Tongans, etc are represented in the All Blacks - there are no Zulu Boks!!!
@mishim100, get to know your history you pansy. We have many ethnic groups in SA, some whites are racist just like some Americans are a bunch of idiots that need a skull cave in, but it doesn't hold true for entire populations. What about bryan habana, jp peterson, geo aplon, juan de jong and more? Are you blind? Those are some fine South African boys that I'm 100% proud of, I am white South African.
People like yourself need to pick up a book and then comment a load of shit when you qualify.
Anytime the All Blacks are beaten, it's an upset. The default result in any All Blacks match is that the All Blacks win. btw, I vote that the All Blacks are the most awe-inspiring of any sports team in any code of sport - who agrees? btw, I'm South African!
I recently read somewhere that very few of the players on the field were effected, however it was confirmed that several guys had food poisoning the day before and that a foreign bookie owned up to it. However in the same article it said that all players were recovered by game time
I have a suggestion: why don't All Blacks change haka words with something more appropriate (more warrior like) for the ritual display?
The words in English translate to something like: I live, i die, i went picking up daisies, i love the sun, i went bathing in the sea or some other crap on the same line...
@reejaw2 I'm not asking why is the haka performed, I'm taking a dig at the pecker-head rugby authorities who jump 30 feet in the air at anything remotely challenging in haka wording...
@awaii90210 Actually, the meaning of the haka is a reference to the leader of the Nga Puhi tribe who attacked many other tribes. But then was defeated and went on the run. He hid down in a food pit. But through a moment of inspiration, realised he is not yet totally defeated. He chose to rise up and take on any challenge once again. Hence, he is suddenly going on about death is not yet upon him, celebrate life and he will overcome any new challenges.
@Oceansnz Thank you kindly for the heads up. It makes more sense to me now. I think though that the wording is waaaay watered down as to not to offend someone's "feelings".
Do you have by any chance the wording of that original haka? Or at least where can I find it? I looked everywhere but I bump into all sorts of rubbish.
@awaii90210 hey mate, yeah have a look on wikipedia. Keywords: "haka (sports)" that should have the words and translation of Ka Mate and previous haka's too.
I remember seeing Jeff Wilson on the field spewing in a bag from the trainer...........I was 7 years old at the time of this world cup. I remember I had a little Junior All Blacks book I was filling in all the scores of that world cup............
For the final I didn't write the score I just wrote....We were poisoned
...Then All of a sudden in the finals against S.A "Woah! Wait a minute! Most of the All Blacks seem to be vomiting on the sidelines! Oh! And whats this? A waitress confessing to poisioning their food!". My friends, it wasnt "Will" or "Determination" that led the Springboks to victory. It was cheating. Mandella was using the win to gain political power to bring the Black and White south africans together. It worked.
@Shadowform15366 haha funny that I have watchd the game about 7 times, yet there is not once that an All Black player was vomiting on the side of the field... Have you even watchd the match mate? Because I doubt you have. Where were the stories of them being sick before the game? It was only released after they lost... And only in New Zealand. Every kiwi tells a different tale, some say its a waitress, others a chef, some say bookies, some mandela! There is no fact! It's complete BS!
@bangbuster3 The food poisoning was real. There is a strong consistency between the stories retold in the autobiographys of the players. Here in NZ, the food poisoning was reported 24 hours BEFORE the game started. I remember it being announced on the radio. I don't buy into the whole conspiracy theory stuff, but the guys were sick.
@Tehui1974 Lomu said only two players were poisoned, and those two were never going to play anyway. Mehrtens said the same thing. So I suggest you get your facts straight.
@Blitzbok Lomu never said any such thing. I've read comments from Fitzpatrick, Zinzan Brooke, and Eric Rush who all describe waking up in the early hours feel 'giddy', going to see the doctor, only to discover half of the team up with the same complaints.
@Tehui1974 Yes Lomu did. He was interviewed by the BBC in build-up to 2007 RWC and said it. Mehrtens said the same thing. Lomu further said that nobody would have beaten South Africa in that final. I know this is going to anger you, but you first have tell Lomu he is a liar before you tackle me, lol!!!!
@NeoMorpheus911 Dude. I am a New Zealander. I have played this game in ALL Conditions. Like I said they are just rumors. However, you cant ignore the fact that most of the team was sick and its not a common thing for players to vomit during a Rugby match, let alone an international team. But I do also understand your point. Yes South Africa played well, but how could they beat a team that one the first world cup, broke a scoring record and beat teams with more than 100 point gap
@Shadowform15366 Rumors no, there are statements from players like Eric rush an bunce, bunce said he go up in the morning feeling sick an went into the team docs room an there were most the other players in there as well, the security head for the ABs who was a SA also states that the team was poisoned. like 30 of the 32 players got food poisoning Eric rush didnt because he an another skipped the meal an went an got kfc or something.
@joelocrevisionista , There are RUMORS that South Africa poisoned the All Blacks food. I'm not saying that those rumors are true or not, but I was there at Ellis Park, Johannesburg and I witnessed AT LEAST half of the All Blacks Vomiting on and off field. But like I said before, I dont know how reliable the Documentries I watched are. By the way, I hate this commentator. What kind of Fuckwit talks during the Haka?!
@Shadowform15366 you ever played a sport in the heat? I played a tournament in Chicago in the summer. i puked 3 times every day from heat exhaustion. I don't even think soccer players run themselves as raged as these guys. especially in this game, where they're up against the Springboks and AN ENTIRE NATION..
Unless they poisoned every team in the tourney, they earned this win!
@NeoMorpheus911 SA were given a leg up with the ABS being poisoned, its fact not a rumor. ABs didnt say nothing because they didnt want to be seen as poor losers.
@Shadowform15366 why shouldnt the commentator talk during the haka, its not a minutes silence! Plus i think the clue as to why the fella was chatting away had something to do with the fact that his job requires him to do so!!
How could NZ loose the final match? I don't now much about Rugby, couse we don't play it in Brazil, but it seems All Blacks were invencible, and much more strongh. Was that game arraged?
@joelocrevisionista you have to realize, this team represented a newly unified NATION. It had their first ever black player. Nelson Mandela himself, supported this team, and actually made an unheard of appearance at the game, wearing their jersey! The tournament also took place IN South Africa.. You think the Haka is menacing.. try looking at 60,000 rabid S. Africans! It's worse than the soccer hooligans in the UK!
@NeoMorpheus911 Dude, I'm South African and I can tell you that the crowd in a South African rugby stadium, though passionate, is not menacing but that's not an insult. It's just that they're generally well-behaved and good sports You wanna know what a hostile crowd is, then you'll find them at South American soccer matches. At any minute those guys could run onto the field and beat up the players, referees, each other, etc. At other times, they just stay in the stands and torch the stadium!!!
@joelocrevisionista theres alot of statements an docos about it, but the ABs were food poisoned, it would not have been anything to do with SA rugby team or union, probably underground bookies.
@NZMeathead There is no fact to the food poison rumors. Your comments make no sense, "ABs didnt say nothing because they didnt want to be seen as poor losers." yet they did say something because they were poor losers... They were embaresed because they went into that match so confident after their dominant performance against England in the semis. But the Springboks manage to put a stop to Jonah, with guys tackling him 1 on 1. Great game however. But the poisoning is not fact! its bs
@joelocrevisionista They lost because the South Africans were able to put a stop to their star player Jonah Lomu. Who had an absolute legendary game in the Semi's against England. Even after the world cup Jonah was never able to score any points against the South Africans. He didn't intimidate the boks like he did some of the other teams, even the Aussies caught on a couple of years later when Gregan managed to take him down on his own. He is however still one of the greatest ever!
@swietlik120 1995, back then, the quality was shit, the same way that quality will look shit to you on todays vides in 5 years, @wiggler1966 there is sound, i had sound, dunno what you talking about
Just watched the movie very inspirational, SA deserved this and fought hard for this remeber we had Lomu but still wasn't quite enough, SA don't let kiwis get to your head we sometimes go overboard about rugby because its our passion like yours, but at the end of the day you guyz deserved this like we desered 2011 rwc because of the shit we been thru lately, BIG UPS TO SOUTH AFRICA, we are great opponent's in rugby union !
