Sure would make sense as Gordon. In the movie, of all the scientists, Macready (the guy with the flamethrower) is the smartest, and in best mental shape. However, I don't remember if it was him or not, but an example of his dedication to saving humanity? Threatening to hold a lighter to dynamite in the building.
