ak's are "battle rifles". put your rear sight at the 3rd notch(300m) or all the way back to the battle setting(also 300m) and at 100m you want to shoot about 9-10" high. this ensures a torso hit from 100-300 meters(zeroing high at 100m compensates for the drop at 300m) which from a 7.62x39 is very devistating. ak's are accurate enough to kill at 300m and yes up to 400 if youre good a good marksman that can compensate for the drop beyond 300m. if i want to shoot further i just use my .30-06 :p

For shits and giggles I was like "Ok, I'll see how well this setup works" I couldn't hit a paper plate at 20 feet a way. I took the scope off and used iron sights and I blow the center out of a clay pigeon everything time at about 50 yrds away. Most accurate AK I've ever shot. Though I'll say I've never had an inaccurate one. Going this Thursday to get a Maadi!!

At 50 yards thats a head shot every time iron sights. With optics, you should have no issues at up to 400 yards, I would engage at more than 300 personally. This is a battle rifle, not a sniper... It will penetrate dense cover and go through cement/brick. The AR 15 will not do this by any means.

Most bow hunters hit within 6 inches of there aim where as the AK-47 will hit within 6 inches of it's aim out to 200 yards and has a lead projectile traveling at 1600 FPS that will blow out a nice bit of internals. In short it is not the all time favorite of hunters, but the AK-47 is meant to kill, deer included.

At any rate, the AK 47 will make a "center mass" shot to 400 yards IF you know how to shoot, and understand how far the round falls at that distance. It doesnt really matter which "flavor" ak you have, if you can hold a 3" group at 100 yards then you can hit the kill zone of a deer at 200 yards. My Yugo holds a 3" group at 100 yards with irons. Arsenal AK with optic holds 2" groups.
But what good is the gun if it jams when you need it? Neither gun (M16 or AK) is inferior. It is just a matter of doctrine. Remember when the Soviets designed the AK it was only a part of the "system" - for example what the AKs aren't accurate enough to hit would be left to the Dragonov. Every Soviet infantry squad had a designated marksman with that rifle. Not to mention the Soviet infantries would only be supporting their massive armored columns from their IFVs.

ah the good age old debate of AK vs. AR it will never end... personaly i like my AR-15 better than my brothers AK and he likes his AK better than my AR. Its all about preferance. and if you want distance i will just switch out my barrel for a different caliber like 6.8(or something else). then there is the reliability issue. If you drop your gun in mud and shit all day then just get a gas piston conversion for the AR but it costs about $300+ so i went out and bought and Eotech instead.
It's not the most accurate, but that's what that long ass magazine full of bullets is for. 7.62x39 can travel some distance. Maybe you should comment on some airsoft videos.
