A sport is commonly defined as an organized, competitive, and skillful physical activity requiring commitment and fair play. It is governed by a set of rules or customs. In a sport the key factors are the physical capabilities and skills of the competitor when determining the outcome (winning or losing). The physical activity involves the movement of people, animals and/or a variety of objects such as balls and machines.
@scubba777 billiards requires physical control over your body. You can know all the strategies and moves, but if you can't physically execute, you won't win. That's what makes it a sport. Chess isn't a sport because it takes no physical control of your body. I'm a chess player and I'm not saying it's difficult, but it's all about your strategies.
You can play chess on a computer and it's the exact same thing. With billiards, you have to be physically playing to show your mastery.
@scubba777 That's why I believe it is a sport. IMO a sport doesn't mean you have to be sweating and panting. To me, a sport is a game that requires greater control over you body in order to win, along with strategy. In almost every sport except track and field, that's usually the case. I wrestled in hs and you need to be physically capable and know the moves and strategies. It's the exact same way in billiards, only you're not sweating and out of breath
@scubba777 Chess is a game. It does not require any physical activity. If you move the chess pieces different ways or are quicker or slower at the actual process of placing your piece from different directions, etc, it does not affect the outcome of the game. The only exception might be speed chess, where there is a physical component......but that is not typical of a chess game in its truest form.
