Thank you very much for posting this video. I was wondering what scale you tune the sympathetic strings? Is is D major or D minor, if neither, then what is it? Thanks once again.
When I purchased my Sitar...it took three weeks alone just to research and learn how to tune it properly. Not only tuning the strings but also making sure the frets are intonated as well to the correct notes. It's been fun...but when everything is dialed in...that's when it comes alive. The sympathetics really ring out. Those sympathetic tuning keys can be heck on the fingers too...I bought a tuning handle for those. It saves my fingers.
@mykylc Yeah man.. it's insane to watch her turn those things with her bare hands. I can't do that with mine. And I know what you're saying about coming alive.. when every string is in perfect tune, harmonics are lining up, sympathetics are dead on and tuned to the harmonics of the low Sa and Pa strings.. suddenly the instrument breathes with life! Everything starts ringing out and it's like a wash of beauty when you start playing. Good stuff.
I might make a slower paced easier to follow video on how to play the sitar, I'm new to the instrument so I understand how complicated it is to a beginner
:-) i think that she just shows that the sympathetic strings are tuned according to a scale (.. not to a chord) .. my guess is that the tuning of these strings depends on the scale / raga you play. If this is the case, it wouldnt make much sense to do it slowly.
I'm having trouble tuning my sitar. What notes should the strings be tuned to? Is there an online tuner that plays each tuned string?
