Humans have separated themselves from animals by calling themselves "Humans" and God's other children "Animals". God didn't put these names on us. And just because chickens and cows have so far been slaughtered by humans, that doesn't mean that we should start killing new species of animals. Two wrongs don't make a right.

But let's exclude God because not all people believe in God.
From a normall and neutral point of view the only thing that cannot be eaten are those harmful to the human body and of course human species because we cannot sacrifice fellow human life to benefit our food needs.
To live peacefully we have to respect our differences and our boundaries.

The Chinese and the Indon and Malays who settled in the now Philippines domesticated dogs as farm guards and as food source. In the late 1800's Westerners influenced Asian culture so dog eating slowly moved to the country sides as the cities started to westernize. At present an estimated 40% of Filipinos and a higher percentage of Chinese and Vietnamese are dog eaters. Dog eating is an Asian Culture.

There's been a lot of ill-conceived traditions through out history that have been rooted out and abolished, such as head hunting and slavery, to name a few. Dogs are just like any other animal. Even here in Youtube some dogs are shown to eat human corpse, just like any other carnivore. Chimps and pigs could have shown their usefulness and emotion if given the chance to associate with humans. You cannot unfairly elevate dogs from the rest of the animals.
