The American version of the office is my favorite tv show. I couldn't tell you which one is better because I've never seen the UK version. But of what I saw, I can definitely say that I like the American better.
I think on an episode by episode basis both versions are pretty equal (although i still like the American version more, but that's just me). I think the American version is a better show overall though because of it's longevity. The British version only lasted 14 episodes. The American version is over 100. With that extra time the American version could just go way more in depth with all the characters and explore Jim and Pam's relationship more.
@koekat1 Don't get me wrong, I think the American version should have ended after season 5. It would have been a perfect ending. The last few seasons they've admittedly slipped. In the end though, the American version had 5 seasons of excellence while the British version had the equivalent to one.
Tim is better, and I love both versions and am half brit half yank so no bias. I think when you look at both versions, uk and us, the best character out of them all is tim. Freeman is so incredible at making that character, and it's better how he isn't perfect like Jim. He's not as good looking and not as tall etc but he makes his character cool through awesome acting. His hate for gareth is hilarious and his thing with dawn is so real. He acts bored so well!
and yes, Gareth is funnier than Dwight because I can actually see him existing. you can tell there's insecurity behind the territorial army talk... hahaha
I mean, the UK SERIES as a whole is a lot more believable than the US version - David Brent is clueless in a realistic way whereas Michael Scott is just ridiculous. but I like the way the US office's plot flowed for the first 3 seasons. it's boring now that Pam & Jim are together, so the UK office got it right getting Tim & Dawn together at the end, but it doesn't make their love saga any less heartbreaking. and I like Pam better than Dawn, she's warmer. But I LOVE Tim. And I LOVE Jim. <3
personally, I like Tim better (I'm not a 'murrkin, but I DO live in this shithole). I like how he randomly calls Gareth and all he says is "cock" and hangs up.
UK version is more realistic, US version most of the time is quite unrealistic. But that makes the US version better (in my opinion), because who wants to watch an ordinary daily life when everyone has that already in the reality?
I like them both (crush on jim) but tim is a more believable human being...of course gareth gets to him, he's a dick...and sometimes tim is bang out of order...and yes he's sad - he still lives with his parents, his life didn't turn out how he wanted and he hates his job...but that makes you feel for him even more and you can really see his desperation at times...he's a flawed but lovely human being...jim's too sweet and perfect sometimes...
i don't like tim at all. when jim plays a prank on dwight, he doesn't laugh obnoxiously... he just gives his priceless smirk. tim on the other hand gets way too cocky about it. therefore jim is a billion times better than tim. and JIM = HOTTIE <3
Jim just isn't. I find myself hating him on a personal level because the American show has made him into some superman that can do no wrong, and leads the office.
It's just not believable. What was funny about the original Office was that you could actually believe it could be real, such was the power of the acting.
Jim's a lot less pathetic than Tim. Tim still lives with his parents, and Gareth (is that his name?) can actually get to him...and he can be a bit whiny. At least, from what I noticed the first season...
I dunno. I prefer the US version. But Tim is still pretty cool. I prefer Pam over Dawn, though.
I have just started watching the original BBC series, and it's almost scary how much Tim and Jim look alike and how uncannily identical their facial expressions and mannerisms are. At John Krasinski's audition, the producers must have fallen out of their chairs because of how dead-on John is to Martin Freeman!
I've been noticing that too, it's really rather brilliant how similar they are! Thumbs up for posting a worthwhile comment too, rather than merely stating which one is 'better' than the other :P
It's weird how similar the first series of the office us was to the uk one - after that it kind of went in its own direction, which I think is a good thing, even though they're both just as funny as each other. LOVE Tim and Jim!
Great vid! both the character's are cool, i think John Krasinki is just as good as Martin Freeman at the funny but subtle expressions, and considering i'm a huge fan of the original, that says a lot.
YEAH eg. The american company gets bought by Wernam Hogg (The british one) and the send representatives over etc. (I'd actually watch the american one then haha)
I honestly didn't think either of them was funny at all, but I sat down and watched the first few seasons of the US version and love it now. I'm sure the same will happen when I'm caught up on it and start watching the UK version.
I definitely have to say Tim...by far. He makes the same faces, but they look much less exaggerated. Tim is the better actor, so you feel for his character a lot more.
haha-DEF. also, they make time for of an underdog, and hence, more likeable, escepcially when compared to the way to made jim halpert into an older zack morris.
oh the same note, and for the same reason, dwight TOTALLY owns over gareth
It's so hard to choose which character I prefer, or indeed which version of The Office I prefer. The video made me realise though, the sheer number of parallel scenes between the two versions.
Tim Tim Tim... he walks all over 'Jim'. All the original characters walk over the american versions. Sorry, but once america gets its hands on things all it can do is ruin everything.

That's where you're wrong. Martin Freedman adds HUMANITY to the character, which Jim and Dwight both fail to do on the American version.
I still like the American version, but the British version is a billion times better.
KingKungFuCantona 2 years ago 4
I don't care who adds humanity or what else. As long as it's funny they can do whatever they feel is necessary :P Jim is way better :P

OK, I'll correct myself - I don't know which is BETTER, but to me, american one is funnier. The smirks are the funniest part of the pranks lol
indresx83 2 years ago
It just lacks any sort of subtlety that makes the original verson what it was.
KingKungFuCantona 2 years ago 3
Well, we Americans are more about in-your-face humor, and the British are more deadpan. It's just a difference in culture.

Have u seen season 5 yet? They go into showing Jim's flaws so I have to disagree with you about the american version making him into a "superman"

Yeah I've seen the season, but I'm referring more to how quickly he responds to put-downs, how smooth he is, how he rarely laughs.
Tim did all these things, and it made him likable and human.
