  • What a masterpiece.Great combination of Worldclass musicianship and great songwriting

  • Level 42 have always made great music! This proves it!

  • It just simply eighties Rock at it's very very best! Dig that guitar at 2:57 onwards. It's just pure magic, pure emotion. This band realy excelled when they produce this (rather underated) masterpiece. They wre on top form. There's rarely anything around these days that can come anywhere near to a comparison to this joyful work. I salute you Level 42!

  • Guitar - the brilliant Alan Murphy: the guitarist behind much of Kate Bush's music. The bit at 2:57 sends shivers through me.

So sad he died so young.

  • I may have said it before, but this song RULES. Cop a listen and enjoy.

  • what happened to music since then ?.its all so dumbed down and cookiecutter today

  • Well people are dumber today so the music must be dumber

  • I know...I was listening to an old school set on the radio the other day and there were some really great tunes from the 80s&90s. It made me think of what the great old school tunes will be from this era...wat FLO-RIDA!?!?

    Music is kinda garbage now.

  • I'm totally agree with you, lostjiew

  • Tracy

Level 42 just does it right!! Heaven In My Hands makes me smirk. Just love it! The band is just smokin'! (and so is Mark). And yeah, I like the song "Tracie"...not the same spelling..but I have had fantasies.

  • Brilliant band....Miss Alans playing

  • great song!!!

  • Awesome Song by an Awesome band!!!

r.i.p. Allan.. we miss your playing

  • that song showing that the music and bands of 80,s are unbeliavle!!! in one of the last album realease a awesome theme like that! it should be normal in they crusial time "runing in the family" but in the final of his career...fantastic!

  • Great - Timeless. Love it.

  • Level 42 rocks!!!

  • Mark King, fantastic bass player and what a fantastic voice too!!

  • Absolutely brilliant song - 2:55 what a voice!

  • Absolutely Brilliant.

  • What a song!

  • Let them come to the US and I will show up

  • so will i!

  • Hey choc8, is Mike still in the band?

  • LOVE THEM & MARK XXXXXXXXXXJust seen them at newcastle they were fantastic as always seen them three times over the years and they are fab live, mark is god on that bass, he done a solo he was fantastic crowd went wild, cant wait to see them again.

  • hey lets not forget if you like it dont dis it.

personalally i think its the bollocks

  • Level 42 was and is for me one of the greatest funkbands of the world. Only now Mark is playing a Status bass(Nice guitar) but the old songs must be played on the original Jaydee bassguitar!! And the last album dissapoints me. Why? The sound of the status bass is an hifi sound, not a incredible bass low sound of the Jaydee bass!

  • sorry to piss on your rain cloud but its a alembic bass not jaydee that was years ago

  • I didn't mean this video, but the album retroglide where he is playing on a Status Bass!

In this vid its idd an Alembic bass.

I like the warm sound of the Jaydee and Trace Elliot amp!

  • agreed buddie the alembics seem to lose something ,i own a status kingbass and a jaydee and they are they best, sorry for the confusion

  • Never Mind Mate! Always good friends! I prefer the Jaydee for the sound!!! And the Status bass is playing very light. I have sold both basses(a must, because two motorcycles has stolen from me brb.) and now i am looking again for a jaydee!

    Thanks for your comment!

    Greetings Jack.

  • the status sounds very clinical and the jaydee sounds more woody and earthy ,at the mo the status is my bag as the live at reading gig is on the hit list cheers all the best

  • U2 thx

  • Bravo! BRAVO!! MAGNIFICENT track...Fantastic to drive to...gives you an extra 20mph!! Thanks for posting

  • This is as fresh sounding as way back when, brilliant.

  • I've worked for years as a jazz musician, and this is still the only pop band that gets me as excited as John Coltrane -- the musicianship is almost too good to be believed.

  • going to see them play tonight in london.. loved them since the 80s and wished i had seen them long ago.. better late than never!

  • A beautiful clip from the golden age of music videos. Real artistry, not just a marketing tool.... even though they were designed to market the band.

  • Hot,sweaty fabulousness....

Brilliant music as ever. Just makes you want to shout along with it!!!!

    Love you Mark!

  • I have been a fan for years and have never been disappointed! Thanks!

  • reminds me of the old ford capri days.... back seat dogging

  • Gawd!!! this song is sooo f**king good, the lyrics, the dancing, the harmonies, Mark King's voice, the message, the energy in the video WOW!!!

  • For anyone who lives in the south - is it me or does Mark look like he's related to Sally Taylor from BBC South Today??!!

  • rip alan...........your so missed.

  • Level 42 music gods. This track is just full of so much energy. Love it.

  • best song

  • My favorite for 20 years straight!

  • I remember liking this song in my teens(and Level 42 in general)....but wow.....I just can't get enough of it now!!!....best song ever?!

I think I'm gonna cry lol

  • Can see clear to heaven when Level 42 plays.

  • This is definately one of Level 42's most underated tunes.

Unfortunately, the guitarist Alan Murphy died a few years later and I believe it was his influence on this tune that gave it a more rock/metal style.

Remember boys and girls, Level 42 have always been a fusion band. In the early days they were blending jazz funk with many different genres so its no surprise they mixed rock with funk.

  • Metal? He played guitar for Kate Bush and Go West - hardly Iron Maiden or Metallica!

  • AWESOME MUSIC!!!!!

  • By far the best song they ever did.Combine funk and metal better than anyone. Shuld have done more of it!!!

  • metal? :s

  • Check out those guitar riffs!!

  • sounds more like rock to me xD

  • level 42 what a band love all there music keep rocking boys!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Level 42 are touring again? Now where did I put my credit card.

  • Feckin Dynamite stuff...Love the band...

  • I hope they will tour the U.S. soon.

  • you notice how king gets older?

watch the video for the sun goes down, then this, then running in the family,

Looks way better with long hair

  • Love Mark's funky little lip curl. The voice and the face are a perfect match. Tight little body too. The Gods were in great form the day they created him. Not to mention all the talent that goes along with it. He is still a looker to this day.

  • Reminds me very much of being 17, at college, right in London's West End! This song sounded so much louder and prouder than it would in any other part of the world!!

  • Brings back so many mems. One of my faves...AWESOME!

  • They are really the maestro! Cool and what class!!!!

  • I friggin love this song so much!

  • Great track! I remember an old interview in which Mark King talked about the making of this video. You'll see that the band are shown in black and white on a colour background. He said that the band members had to put a blue shade on their bodies, so that they would appear grey in the video. Such was the state of CGI at the time! Of course now things are much simpler 20 years on!

  • what a top song to show gary and the late great alan

  • especially since the beginning of 2000's i've really taken this song on as a personal inspiration, and the quote "i won't stop until

i'm holding-heaven in my hands ('result of a great lifestyle in the making) and i'll use this song for the up-and-coming vision statement that'll be in youtube ('come take a look) thanks again mark king and the mates

of level 42-awesome bass work, espcially!

    peace

  • I agree with all comments (or most) posted below... Indeed such grove and energy stems from this song... Level 42 is TOP NOTCH... My favorite Post Beatle band... Indeed shame on the US record/music industry for failing to recongnized this band for its incredible talent... And such awsome memories linked to this song and the group...

    Keep 'em coming Level 42.

    Thanks for posting this video.

  • Class!!!

  • love the guitars on this track-rocks!!

  • Helluva song - feel the groove man

  • so many memories attached to this song for me.. thanks for uploading, total quality.. 5*****

  • I think this tune is one of their most underrated ones. It's quite heavy like a classic rock song, but with a strong groove, and a little bit more sphistication ;)

  • I never understood why this song didn't became a number one.. blows the mind away... :-)))

  • Bullshit corporate America music industry! Level has never got the credit due to them in the states even though they are probably one of the best British bands since the Beatles. Go figure...I just wish they'd play the states one more time. I saw them once opening for Madonna no less and all I can say is too bad she took the stage!

  • agree 100%. well said......level 42 is the best.

  • veery good composers

  • I still remember when I first heard this. It blew me away! New sound, new band mates, same great music made better!

  • It doesn't matter how you cut it, this is a great rock song showing the band off to their full potential. What a talented group of musicians they all are.

  • Level 42 is for me one of the best bands!

I have a Status Bass signed by Mark King!

I am very Happy with that!

  • shhh Jackster...if people find out where you live mate LOL!

Hope you have it insured mate!

  • Level 42 excellant mark king is a bass legend just makes you get the air bass out

  • yeahh !!! this is one of my favorites !

    ideal for NFS !!!

    great song !!

  • Level 42 said about this song "this became a bit more rocky and probably alienated some of the people who had first been into us"

The trumpet fanfare came from 'The Prisoner'

  • WOW! I didn't know Level 42 could rock like that. I thought they only did New Wave pop songs like "Something About You"

  • Brilliant song from a band that never got the credit they deserved.

  • love the line "Drowning on dry land" and of course that blast of brass!

  • i love the way mark king plays his geeetar! awesomeeeeeee

  • the sounds of level 42 are outstanding!! awesome guitarists, just fooking minto band!!!!love them!

  • Filmed in New Orleans I think.

  • Yes. Check out Level 42 Fait Accompli Part I.
