  • Great pants! He looks even more stylish in the Chichester concert.

  • is this song available for purchase anywhere?

  • @soundofmetal It is not released on any DM records. You can only find the song on bootlegs

  • @Koffe74 I wish they would record it officially.

  • @Koffe74 And that is a shame, cause Price of Love, and I Like It are such unique covers.

  • cette chanson est des éverly brother vers 65 mais bryan ferry (roxy music en a refait un tube dans les années 75,status quo en a fait aussi une assez belle version

  • I was under the assumption that fletch made the swap long before this as I have a performance from Southend on sea technical college from Nov. 1980 wasn't he on his bass synth then ? Another cover they do is "I like it" another 50's cover & that's played on a live show ( in Germany i think ) early '82 just after See You is released

  • I saw pictures and images of these shows back in the mid-80's and it influenced me style and aesthetics - wise, but I never thought I'd get ot see footage like this! Thank You!

  • Extraordinary, never seen before, very good song, but It seems to be that they were making a DEVO tribute at that time , haha

  • ist das geil!

  • What a Rare find.

  • Price of Love is an Everley Brothers cover from the 50's. The drum on this vid is not the tape machine, but is from Dave's Boss Dr Rhythm drum machine which carried 10 different arrangements, the tape at this time held the drums for those not on the drum machine. This gig is also shortly after Fletch swapped his bass guitar for a synth. I probably have one of the only early recordings of the band with Fletch playing Bass Guitar, which was taken from there first gig at Croc's in Rayleigh UK

  • @wendymoody <3 <3 <3

  • Depeche Mode for 30 Jahren, einer der ersten Auftritte ... Süß!

  • There is a story about they release one or two albums before SPEAK AND SPELL...

..they were Demos,in those Demo there were songs never heard on radio and also original demos of some of the songs they went to SPEAK AND SPELL and BROKEN FRAME.

  • @MAYNOCK1974

No they never released any albums before Speak and Spell. Neither did they release any singles before "Dreaming of me".

I have however heard a lot of their early demos and pre-studio recording version of songs which ended up on their early albums. It is very likely many of those were written before Speak and Spell was released. Martin Gore said he wrote "See You", when he was 16, but it was never included in Speak and Spell, however when Vince Clark left the band it was released

  • @MAYNOCK1974 Yes, and the awesome song Addiction (Ghost Of Modern Time) is on one, you can find the album under filestube

  • i wonder if dave still have those horrible pants

  • who knew that almost 30 years later these younglings would be much better and still singing?

    tape machine - priceless!

  • whoa old school lol : ) i love how the camera person is rocking out w the zoom

  • ***Me encantaría haber estado ahí!!!***

  • Great! Thank you!

  • wihii this is funny <3

  • wow. this is OLD!!

  • Ohh, so cool

  • i like dave's haircut, it's look like a friend of mine, 80's!!!

  • this song is awful but dave is sooo lovely :-D

  • i love dave since 30 years but the trousers are bad... i´ve never heard this song befor. i think it´s not the best song

  • Daves wearing high trousers. maybe simon cow is a mode fan?

  • quem via ate pensava que ele era um bom menino

  • pants are the best pants ever!

  • Comment removed

  • Can you hear the similarity between this song and "New Life".

I guess "New Life" was evolved from this.

  • @simonlebon3 It does sound a lot like "New Life", but I believe this is actually an Everly Brothers cover.

  • It's amazing, I love this old song! And Dave is LOL :D:D:D

  • look at these pants...cute :-)

  • I'm sure if you dig some tv archives you can find even more amazing videos.

Yes - this is amazing video and its priceless.

  • HM TALENT JDE TO VIDET A SLISET

  • Wonderful traditional DM from a '77 fan!!!

  • A '77 fan? Whoa. Wait. Weren't they originally "Composition of Sound"? Formed in '79. Just for the info, this performance was recorded when I was just 25 days old. LOL

  • WTF??

  • this song is not from Vince Clark or Martin Gore, but i like it, sound better with DM!! this is from Everly Brothers ,just found out.

  • la wea vieja CTM!

  • This video is PRICELESS !!!

Dave is so young and funny:)..

    The best band ever!!!!!

  • It's amazing that Depeche Mode was making music in 1981. Shit. I didn't start listening to them until ......1986 I believe. What a band. thanx for uploading.

  • this is awesome! you could even see the tape machine i've heard them talk about a few times in interviews.

  • Yes, and In the "TV set" video you see Dave start the tape machine :)

  • @liedowninthelight they used tape machine for a very long time.. you can see it on 101 concert..

  • Sounds more like Suicide than Bryan Ferry's tune.

  • Thank to person, who's recorded this. Invaluable!!

  • @strupcza i agreed

  • Roxy Music in versione elettronica...mai visto questo video, decisamente interessante, anche per capire le radici dei Depeche Mode.

  • all the band beginnin like a chet...

    good video.

  • Ernest..

  • omg. ,. if this was back in 81?? that made him 19 yrs and me only 12!!! sick!!!! : )

  • Das Original ist von Bryan Ferry!!

  • Das Orginal ist von Everly brothers

  • Das orginal ist von Everly Brothers zurick in 50'

  • 81 i wasn't in this world hehe how old is it ....

  • ich kenn den song garnicht^^ hmm, aber geil issa schon xD

  • ah yes...a fresh and clean looking DG in his pre-drug days.

  • Don't like the song but the video footage is rare vintage stuff. very entertaining. thanks for posting.

  • grandissima cover.......depeche mode esordienti e già bravissimi. dm forever

  • ffs, I was there :-)

Wow, I was 11 back then...

  • DM didn't made much cover songs.I'm just discovering this one and it's so aaaawfully bad!! Tough i realy love them and anyway they didn't wrote this song so it' ok :°) Get ready for their new upcoming album "Sounds of the Universe" on April 20th,fellas!

  • Route 66 was a Barry Troup song and that was an amazing cover version. But ive never seen this before. There must be a vault full of unreleased stuff they've done. Be interesting to hear it.

  • Yeah,i know DM did a few covers such as Route 66,Dirt(I Feel Loved B-side),Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata & the on we're talking 'bout. But only the first 3 songs were recorded. For instance Simply Red did much more!

  • nice synth sounds but lyrcis are horribly daft and the melody's dull..and they toured with it..!

  • A cover of Bryan Ferry's cover 'The Price Of Love'!!! Not for Depeche Mode. Great anyway.

  • It's too bad that you don't have the best song, (Shout!) on this series from Amsterdam

  • This is proof that Depeche Mode are the greatest Death Metal band on the planet!!!

  • They have some competition up in Norway...still I cannot but agree with your definition of DM being a Death Metal band!

  • You should see the Bryan Ferry Version its brilliant

  • Yeah , this song is pretty awful, I have to agree with you!! However I think agent orange was not that bad, I think the worst was a track calle "WORK HARD", which is featured on the PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE single. Besides theat , Depeche are the Greatest ever!! :-)

  • Agent Orange is a great track! Work Hard was on Everything Counts single, I think. The worst was The Meaning of Love...I can´t stand that one :-)))

  • Worst DM song ever is: What's your name (A broken Frame Album, 1982)....

  • Well, I would definitely agree that "What´s You Name" is a hot candidate for the Worst Depeche Song. But it´s on Speak and Spell, not A Broken Frame album.

The Price of Love - I wouldn´t consider this one..never released officially, the boys were at their start, it is a live version...it´s like "heating up" the athletes do. Depeche started off dubiously, with some stuff good, some horible but by 1983 they started becoming THE WORLD´S BEST BAND of the past 25 yrs!

  • talkin bout? idiota.. do your homework..

  • oh, dear... the reason this is not of DM quality is that it is a cover! and Agent Orange was the b-side of Strangelove, and work hard was the b-side of Everything Counts - and both these songs are genius!

  • grandpa pants. I love this song when done by the Everly Bros or Bryan Ferry (especially him) but I don't think the fabulous Depeche Mode gives it any heart.

  • this is de fabulous Garage Depeche Mode.

  • Nice pants....:D

  • Goodnight Dave........

  • Great DM Electronica cover of an old Everly Bros track.... So rare too. Especially with Video footage. Thanks for the upload :)

  • That"s funny how Dave looks like xDDD

  • i've never heard this one before?!?! it has never been released! thanks very much for this upload.and still ask myself why i've never heard this song:-D

  • It was a Bryan Ferry (Roxy Music) song from 1976, this version is so cool!!

  • Its´ NOT a Bryan Ferry song, but he covered (like others did). The song is originally by the Everly Brothers 1965. Check on youtube, they´re there.

  • Yes the original is Everly Brothers, but i think they based this one on the 1976 Roxy Music one

  • Such a unique sound, can't compare it to anything before or after it! that's why i love these rarities, TV Set rocks too

  • dave must laugh to loud when he watches those videos on youtube

  • laugh to loud? Eh?

  • laugh SO loud. sorry

  • scrawny..they look like I can beat 'em up...and I like DM , don't get me wrong.

  • lol i love his pants in this video

  • OH. MY. GOD.

  • I was half expecting this to be a cover of the New Order song

  • Souvenirs,souvenirs...

  • The Cure did a cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart

  • i like the cure's cover along with most of their songs same with depeche mode

  • Imagine if Depeche Mode in this early sound did Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division! Certainly Dave's dancing reminds me of Ian Curtis

  • Yeah, even the clothes are somewhat similar...trousers, tucked-in shirt, belt, etc. Dave has a fairly decent vocal range, so "Love Will Tear Us Apart" should be no prob.

  • this is missing song from songs of faith and devotion session

  • dave look like ian kurtis in this video.....(Rip)Ian

  • Dave is so funny, this song is cute! They are so cute!

  • Rare footage indeed. Thanks for uploading! Good one!

  • so sexy!!!!

  • Jesus Christ, this was new for me! :D

  • I <3 Grannie-Pants Gahan!

  • WOW Amazing! I thought I would never see something like this... thank you for sharing this!!!

  • WOAH WOAH WOAH

    My life is complete.

    This is amazing.

    Thank you so much <3

Dave is always cute, but Martin's cuter ^__^

  • Tank you!

  • Wow! This is rare!

  • Oh my God... how did you find this video??? I love it! Dave's pants cracks me up! LOL Depeche Mode forever...

  • yeah, those pants-! Reminds me a little of Erkel!

What drives me crazy is that zooming thing the camera is doing...what's up with that?

  • LOL... yeah I know what you mean. The camera crew sucked at filming this but hey...it was 1981 after all.

  • thanks for sharing!

  • Look at Dave's pants! Now we know where Simon Cowell got his inspiration from! *LOL*

  • greay old school mode!

  • Dave is the cutest thing ever in this video!

  • I agree 100%!

  • @modeberry i totally agree

  • Wow.

  • wow not heard this before thanx

from a hard core dm fan

  • Geile Klamotte!!! :-)

  • i know EVERY depeche song but never heard this one! thanks so much for the upload!!

btw, if any of you have a 5.1 sound system, the remixed albums are SICK when turned up loud!!! for the fans!!!!

  • GREAT!!!

  • Speechless!!! Cheers Koffe :-)

  • Viva paradiso and DP!So late punk/new wavey.Love the Talking Heads big suit period look.

  • Ooops.... am a fan of Bryan Ferry since 1976 and came across this video by research of BF-vids. Never knew DM covered this song?!?!?!? Amazing!!!! And btw: I love DM aswell!!! (but never was a fan-fan, that's why maybe)

  • This song reminds me the DM album "speak and spell".

  • i think it is from speak and spell

and if not then it was from the time of speak and spell, kus most of the videos posted by Koffe74 are from speak and spell

  • It's not on Speak&Spel and as far as I know it was never released officialy from Mute.I think they only performed this track on their very early live.btw thanks to Koffe74.I was at this Paradiso live standing right infront of that stage. One and only DM live I've ever experienced.Damn I can't remember which synth Vince was playing(it was Moog)but Fletch had a Moog Prodigy and Martin had a Yamaha CS-10.Great essential vid!.

  • great gig :D

    Thanx for posting :)

  • Wow... really good. Es lebe Depeche Mode.

  • Everly Brothers wrote it

    Status Quo Covered it

Then Mr Ferry did the same

    Satus Quos is amazing!

    Then Depeche Mode

  • Another song of DM I haven't heard before. Thanks!

  • Thank you very much for this glorious and rare video!!

  • Yes, but the cover is made from Brian Ferry's 1976 version. Dave actually says "Brian Ferry" in the beginning of this clip (?) Anyway, it is the exact same outline as Ferrys version...

  • @ostenolamon i think i heard 'hello' :-/

  • I've never seen this video, but I looked for a lot.

  • great one, vince clark behind the keyboard, left the band one year after to join yazoo, u dont always make the right choice in life...

  • Cool! This has got to be the oldest video I have seen from them. I think.

  • Thanks for sharing this, I always thought it's a shame this track didn't made it to a b-side or even on Speak&Spell. This live-version seems really uptempo to me. I heard slower versions on bootlegs.

  • It's a cover of an old song by another artist/group, so maybe that's why.

  • I believe that the Everly Brothers made the original song

  • A gem

  • funny to see thanks for posting it

  • Thanks...

  • WOW, thanks!!

  • Fantastic. The *only* record of TV Set and Price of Love on video. Rare indeed! Thanks Koffe

  • Thanks For This!!!

  • What?! wow a gem!

  • POST MORE from the show!!!

  • "TV Set" is uploaded too. Mayby I will upload more.

  • początki dM .... super! ..dzięki
