cette chanson est des éverly brother vers 65 mais bryan ferry (roxy music en a refait un tube dans les années 75,status quo en a fait aussi une assez belle version
I was under the assumption that fletch made the swap long before this as I have a performance from Southend on sea technical college from Nov. 1980 wasn't he on his bass synth then ? Another cover they do is "I like it" another 50's cover & that's played on a live show ( in Germany i think ) early '82 just after See You is released
I saw pictures and images of these shows back in the mid-80's and it influenced me style and aesthetics - wise, but I never thought I'd get ot see footage like this! Thank You!
Price of Love is an Everley Brothers cover from the 50's. The drum on this vid is not the tape machine, but is from Dave's Boss Dr Rhythm drum machine which carried 10 different arrangements, the tape at this time held the drums for those not on the drum machine. This gig is also shortly after Fletch swapped his bass guitar for a synth. I probably have one of the only early recordings of the band with Fletch playing Bass Guitar, which was taken from there first gig at Croc's in Rayleigh UK
There is a story about they release one or two albums before SPEAK AND SPELL...
..they were Demos,in those Demo there were songs never heard on radio and also original demos of some of the songs they went to SPEAK AND SPELL and BROKEN FRAME.
No they never released any albums before Speak and Spell. Neither did they release any singles before "Dreaming of me".
I have however heard a lot of their early demos and pre-studio recording version of songs which ended up on their early albums. It is very likely many of those were written before Speak and Spell was released. Martin Gore said he wrote "See You", when he was 16, but it was never included in Speak and Spell, however when Vince Clark left the band it was released
A '77 fan? Whoa. Wait. Weren't they originally "Composition of Sound"? Formed in '79. Just for the info, this performance was recorded when I was just 25 days old. LOL
It's amazing that Depeche Mode was making music in 1981. Shit. I didn't start listening to them until ......1986 I believe. What a band. thanx for uploading.
DM didn't made much cover songs.I'm just discovering this one and it's so aaaawfully bad!! Tough i realy love them and anyway they didn't wrote this song so it' ok :°) Get ready for their new upcoming album "Sounds of the Universe" on April 20th,fellas!
Route 66 was a Barry Troup song and that was an amazing cover version. But ive never seen this before. There must be a vault full of unreleased stuff they've done. Be interesting to hear it.
Yeah,i know DM did a few covers such as Route 66,Dirt(I Feel Loved B-side),Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata & the on we're talking 'bout. But only the first 3 songs were recorded. For instance Simply Red did much more!
Yeah , this song is pretty awful, I have to agree with you!! However I think agent orange was not that bad, I think the worst was a track calle "WORK HARD", which is featured on the PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE single. Besides theat , Depeche are the Greatest ever!! :-)
Well, I would definitely agree that "What´s You Name" is a hot candidate for the Worst Depeche Song. But it´s on Speak and Spell, not A Broken Frame album.
The Price of Love - I wouldn´t consider this one..never released officially, the boys were at their start, it is a live version...it´s like "heating up" the athletes do. Depeche started off dubiously, with some stuff good, some horible but by 1983 they started becoming THE WORLD´S BEST BAND of the past 25 yrs!
oh, dear... the reason this is not of DM quality is that it is a cover! and Agent Orange was the b-side of Strangelove, and work hard was the b-side of Everything Counts - and both these songs are genius!
grandpa pants. I love this song when done by the Everly Bros or Bryan Ferry (especially him) but I don't think the fabulous Depeche Mode gives it any heart.
i've never heard this one before?!?! it has never been released! thanks very much for this upload.and still ask myself why i've never heard this song:-D
Yeah, even the clothes are somewhat similar...trousers, tucked-in shirt, belt, etc. Dave has a fairly decent vocal range, so "Love Will Tear Us Apart" should be no prob.
Ooops.... am a fan of Bryan Ferry since 1976 and came across this video by research of BF-vids. Never knew DM covered this song?!?!?!? Amazing!!!! And btw: I love DM aswell!!! (but never was a fan-fan, that's why maybe)
It's not on Speak&Spel and as far as I know it was never released officialy from Mute.I think they only performed this track on their very early live.btw thanks to Koffe74.I was at this Paradiso live standing right infront of that stage. One and only DM live I've ever experienced.Damn I can't remember which synth Vince was playing(it was Moog)but Fletch had a Moog Prodigy and Martin had a Yamaha CS-10.Great essential vid!.
Yes, but the cover is made from Brian Ferry's 1976 version. Dave actually says "Brian Ferry" in the beginning of this clip (?) Anyway, it is the exact same outline as Ferrys version...
Thanks for sharing this, I always thought it's a shame this track didn't made it to a b-side or even on Speak&Spell. This live-version seems really uptempo to me. I heard slower versions on bootlegs.
Great pants! He looks even more stylish in the Chichester concert.
