Cheng Fei to me is the only Chinese gymnast who has ever measured up to the likes of Mo Huilan and will go down in history as a great. With all her perfection in technique I'm sure in years to come we may see her at the olympics, not performing, but on the sidelines as the creator of new champions.
@bernardmarianovella Agreed. Mo Huilan is my fav Chinese Gymnast of all time, she had grace and POWER, Cheng Fei def was in the same leage. She also had a lot of fire, you could tell she wanted to win, and wasnt passive like many of the other chinese girls, who kinda seem like, oh I fell, oh well, oh I stepped, oh well. Theres no aggresion. But with her and Mo, you def saw them wanting to win.
i wish she would make a come back. i no the chinese typically have a thing for pixie like gymnasts but cheng fei stands out from the rest she really has and thats y shes stuck around.
What news I'm sharing with you now is months old: She's been given a sabbatical of one year to rest, to recover from her knee injury; after a series of check-ups on her knee, her doctors will determine if she could ever continue in the sport, and, the first check-up(months ago) didn't look good. She's now a student of Wu Han Sports Institute. She will come back, but probably not as a competing gymnast. Thus far, she's the most successful Chinese female gymnast.
Apart from studying, she still does a bit of training, as far as i know. but that isn't much though. But oh boy, she put on a lot of pounds and she said that she is having problems getting rid of those extra 20 pounds or so. Anyways, i really hope Cheng can have a comeback. but you see, there are tons of rising juniors coming out from China, i'm just a little worried whether China would really need her for just her vault.
hey, do you understand Manderin? coz someone just upload a video of Cheng Fei being interviewed. it's not long, but it saids that apart from studying and doing a rehabilitation, she starts taking up a position as a coach, assisting Lu Shanzhen. she saids being a coach, youget a different perspective towards some of the movements of gymnastics, and that it might as well helps her in rehabilitation.
@longdoydoy i really hope Cheng Fei can make a comeback, she is such a genius on vault, aqnd is such a different Chinese gymnast. but with her rehabilitation not going so well, i really hope for a miracle and that i could see her in 2012 olympics. it's such a pity that she had a really bad day in her event finals in the Beijing olympics.
One thing for sure- even if she is not competiting, she'll still be involved in gymnastics ahter her retirement.
Yes, I understand Mandarin. Well, I hope you would share that video with me, I would very much like to watch it. Could you send me the link to that video?
I just love this floor routine because it was one of the most definitive FX wins, IMO, at any Worlds. I loved this cut of music, too... just wish there had been a tad more choreography.
Perfect *-*

Favorite 2006 FX event finals footage of Cheng Fei.
Wishing her the best in her college studies and her recovery from injuries; she deserves the best!

Yeah she put on weight, and she avoided the media. I'm guessing it's due to the medicine she's taking, it's side effect, well, I'm just guessing.
And you're right, talented juniors are sprouting and they already show some potential vaulters, which means they will also be very good in FX.
Odds are against Fei to come back as a competing gymnast, but, China will need her for her knowledge in VT and FX.
Fei has made a distinctive mark in gymnastic history, I'm so happy for her.

Blame the new code, which screwed everything up. In Cheng Fei's original version of this routine she had a beautiful series of stag leaps.
tillhumanvoices 2 years ago
How do you know this and where is there video of the original routine???
mrparke007 2 years ago
Youtube it. It's mislabelled as Worlds 2005 when it's the East Asian Games 2005.
