He was Mr Entertainment for his era. Few others can make the same claim. Definitely Sinatra for the '50s and 60s. Michael Jackson, I hate to admit it, but yes.
It's been too damn long since I got to hear Jolson - since the early '80's when I watched the Jolson Story over and over with my grandmother. Thank you for a reminder of what a REAL star was like.
Een geweldige artiest die zijn weerga niet kent, en wat erg is dat hij onder gewaardeerd was, een top entertainer, gewelgi hoe hij de songs bracht, en thnx to you tube, is hij weer helemaal terug
Hard to fault any record by Al Jolson, and this is indeed a classic. But the version by the Heidelburg Quintet with the great Billy Murray on lead vocals is impossible to beat. A masterpiece!!
In terms of his talent and the fidelity of the recording, this is one of the greatest Jolson recordings. I wish we had film of him singing it, but I think it was only a soundtrack in which Larry Parks lip-syncs.
Jolson's vibrance, tone modulation, phrasing, and every other aspect of a great vocalization makes this one of the greatest recordings in history.

This recording is possibly one of the very best examples of Jolson's amazing talent.

Jolson had the greatest songs with terrific orchestras. The music alone is amazing, with his voice even better!
