i have african cichlids n jus in my opinion there prolly the most smartest fish jus cuz of how they find ways to "problem Solve" and remember .. ect

example: i cleaned my tank 3 to 4 weeks ago ( i need to again soon) and all my Cichlids get scared when they see the "Net" but only after a certin ammount of time *after* the tank cleaning . never immediantly after the cleaning

A lot of fish do that. But yes, Cichlids tend to be a little brighter than the average goldfish.

I am just thinking.What if we train 2 gold fishes to play soccer. One towards right and the other towards left. Then place the football right on the middle. It would be wonderful. We already know, gold fishes are competitive when it comes to food. So that would be one hell of a competition.

Comets are extremely curious. People tell me all of the time that goldfish have "blank" amount of memory. Whatever. They love to be nosy and find things out for themselves.

And, of course the fancier breed isn't as 'smart' as the comet. I like to call them cautious. =)

usually pure breeds are inferior to mix's or well... the muts or whatever. Also - curiosity and ability to do tricks is not based around memory span. Usually when you use positive reinforcement training it isnt concoius.

When someone refers to their fish as a 'comet' they are saying that they have a common goldfish that is NOT a Shubunkin. Shubunkin's being calico goldfish, with longer tails, fins, etc (similar to the common goldfish, though). You will also hear 'Sarasa Comet', meaning, red and white Comet. In laments terms, it's just another word for 'common goldfish'.

Thats the thing, goldfish are really the best because the smarter fish are smart enough to have their own agendas. Try training a smarter fish like a puffer. it will be more interested in exploring things that interest it, not what you want it to do

We own two six year old goldfish.

Question.. is it too late to train our fish? Lister is approximately 11 inches long, Comet is about 8.

They are very smart and on their own play a sort of quasi soccer with a turtle decoration in their tank. They enjoy rearranging and pulling up decorations and plastic plants.

They are very tame and come to the surface to hand feed and give "kisses"

When I clean the tank they come over to rub against me and enjoy being stroked.
