Step is an odd word to use... I was trying to simplify my terminology for the beginners that would watch this. A step in my mind is a fret/semi tone. Therefore you would traverse two frets/semitones to achieve a tones distance. In other words I am tuned to D standard.

Basically what I said was correct, tune each string down two steps/semitones/frets from Standard tuning and you will be in D. Unless in American you guys refer to a tone as a step?? Maybe that's where the confusion is?
