  • She doesn't seem to be focusing on breathing, which is one of the main focuses of Pilates. It's  what helps strengthen your abs and pace your movements.

    two things: stretch your hamstrings and work your abs. those are two large muscle groups are the main things pulling on your lower back muscles and posture out of place; tight hamstrings and weak abs always equal lower back pain. so do something like three different hamstring stretches daily and some sets of a couple different types of crunches, maybe some planks, and in a week you should feel a difference. good luck.

    Im the tallest girl in my family and I did a lot of walking and pilates when I was around 13 and overweight. It could just be the gene passed on to me, but I know that walking helps you get longer legs. Id suggest nature walks instead of the treadmill but either is fine

  • I may try knowing already that after 2 of any of this exercises I'll ran out of air, hear my back with a crack! noise & wondering how long it would take to get back on my feet.

    My cardiologist told me to get into fitness but I already know that once I hit 40 (I'm 43 now) I'll make a F before even starting.

    My best exec ice so far is a pizza on Fridays, internet & TV movies.

    I'm too old to start but I can only dream of may be some day giving a try.

  • Lol u shldnt allow anyone to do a vid like this cuz it´s not very healthy to not explain pilates properly. You cant jus say "concentrate on holdin ur stomach in" cuz a beginner will simply do everythin wrong and will cause more damage in their body than it´ll help to lose weight etc. To do pilates right it takes years of practice..vids like this cause naive people damagin their own body...

  • Looks pretty good, on criss cross you might try keeping your bent knee at 90 degrees and lifting your body to reach your knee on the other movements, using your powerhose ( not just your abs ) keep your lower back pressed into the mat more, that part is non negotiable, You move beautifully, keep it up!

  • April. I tried it once, and the class members were all beautiful young white women with very low BMIs and fabulous tans - a bit like this woman. It sort of shuts the rest of us out, doesn't it. It is a bit like an ordinary person turning up at Hugh Hefners.

  • Well, maybe Pilates is what helps keep those women beautiful and looking young. Although it probably doesn't have much effect on them having great tans or being white. har har har.

    A somewhat-similar thing to try is power/strength yoga. For people who have never given it an honest try, give it a try. You currently might not know what you're missing.

  • I agree. She's making a lot of mistakes. Example: you're not EVER!! supposed to grab around your knee. If you can't reach your ankle grab around your thigh or calf, but NEVER the knee. It puts too much stress on the joint.

  • When I feel like I need an extra tone up, I do these simple exersices(the ones in the video). I do them in the morning and at night. With some simple yoga poses. Really helps feeling clam, and relaxes you. :)

  • Yay! I just checked out this video to see what Pilates actually is, theres 3 classes a week at my gym, i didnt want to go in only to find out it wasn't for. It buuuurnnns but I feel so proud everytime I accomplish it. Sooo going to pilates at the gym now.

  • to correct the dumb ass pilates was created to rehabilitate the vets of ww1. and to point out it is a great form of excersising...so everyone can do it...nothing says that excersises are ment souly for one type of person. jack ass

  • AGREED. Why do you have to be in lock-up to exercise? Pilates is in every gym/workout place right now. I just got into it and really like it alot.

  • You will do both, because you train your abs (loosing the weight) and your getting fitter abs by this sort of training.

  • Yes, you will be doing both. Also try some fun cardio to help lose more weight, and overall toneing. Cardio(you probably already know) raises your heart rate. Rember it can be anything, not just running! An elpitcal is great for cardio! I love it!  Also do yoga. It will help alot. A workout plan should include cardio, stregth training, and flexibility. Pilates, yoga, and some cardio exercise is great. Rember you can find yoga&pilates exercises on google or go to your gym :)

  • If you google it you can find certain pilates exersies for you inner thigh. If it is your muscle I think you are saying(or fat whatever) this will help. And Yoga helps legthen your muscles too(shrink). Cant tell if you are a guy or girl by your user name but yoga is not just for guys. Im a girl, but my guy friends do yoga too. But this is manly for you abs(powerhouse).
