  • Cost, Cost, Cost! - is what I would like to know. I'm a full time student, and my part-time job employer's insurance company, does not and will not cover any of the costs. Any ideas on how to be able to afford such a procedure. My under-bite is slight, but I do have a long face, and a "Jay Leno" protruding chin. I'm assuming I will have to wait until I'm financially stable, but would really like it sooner - whenever that will be...thanx for the video.

  • @Alejandromichael84 I wanted it done while I was in college like you but I knew that was not going to happen so I waited till I had a full time job after college. Unfortunately insurance still did not pay for any of it so I had to pay for the whole thin myself. My only advice is save up for it.

  • i might need surgery like a 25% chance was it painful afterwards?

  • @DrunkPotatoe it was not painful afterwards

  • @fatbrowne good i need that surgery too

  • i wish i had a surgery now, underbite let me lost my confidence when interacting with other people :(

  • What about jaw strength post op? Is your jaw bone as strong and solid as it was before or would it be easier to fracture or break?

  • @TheOZBehindCurtain just as strong as it was before. I bite into apple and chew up hard foods no problems

  • i have to get the surgery in a few months...

    1. did it hurt? or did they knock you out?

    2. how was the pain afterwards?

    3. were you able to eat normally? like no pain when eating?

  • @nejirox51693 they knocked me out. There was very little pain afterwards. I was able to eat normally after about 1 month

  • How many fillings do you have in total?

  • @arnivideos None

  • You sound Brit before you had the surgery.

  • @macandease I am not sure if my voice really changed after I had the surgery. I guess it is possible

  • Is it realli painful after yo wake up from the jaw surgery ?

  • @PepsiGirlz4 No I was singing after I had my jaw surgery the medicine they give for pain is really great!

  • hey i have an underbite im 15 years old its not really like an undebite just my teeth are all lined up with each other do i need surgery for this?

  • @gamerhack If you want a perfect bite you will want jaw surgery. But you will have to wait till you are 18 to see what your teeth look like once you are fully grown.

  • @gamerhack If you're still growing, you might be able to do it with headgear braces I think.

  • i really want to do the surgery too. but i dont have courage to do the surgery and ofcourse the money plus my mom wont allow me to do the surgery.

  • Dude i had the same surgery done when i was 18. It changed my Face forever in a good way of course.

  • Aww thank you, that's very nice of you :) Yes I do get quite a lot of attention now but I think I am so much more confident now aswell, which I guess makes any person appear more attractive (the jaw surgery helps tonnes though!!) You look great too, the difference is really amazing, I am sure that you get a lot more attention now aswell!

  • @RubyRed484 Yes I do but now I am engaged so the extra attention doesn't really matter

  • Jaw surgery is the best! It was the best thing I ever did and I can't believe how different I looked before in my videos :) x

  • @RubyRed484 I agree. It is very life changing. I watched your videos and I can totally see how different you appear between the before and the after.

You are beautiful. I am glad you had such a positive experience after your surgery. Do you find yourself getting a lot more attention from the opposite sex?

  • SALSICHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • You looked good man! There was no need to correct shit.

  • would you get this done? i can get it done and its free but is it really worth it? noone even knows i have an underbite when i meet them so yes or no? ;)

  • @boihaggos1 Do it while it's free and you are young mate as you will have a perfect face for the rest of your life afterwards i had the same desision so glad i chose to do it :)

  • @TheJaynuss really man? :) my jaw keeps going out of place aswell has that helped you with that problem at all if you had it. :)

  • @boihaggos1 I'm currrently about half a year from my OP still in the braces stage mate but the time has flow by, when you bite do your front teeth meet ???

  • Man, I had this surgery last December, it sucked. I'm glad its all over. My face is back to normal.

  • @504BoyLuisLopez but has your face improved a lot since the surgery?

  • @fatbrowne Yes, when I went back to school, my friends didn't recognize me at all. Some said I look different but they don't know what it is. Lol. I have bout couple months left before I have my braces remove. Thank God.

  • @504BoyLuisLopez I had the same experience after I had jaw surgery and visited old friends and family. Of course I told them afterwards but I got the same reaction. However, everyone liked the way I looked.

  • @fatbrowne I didn't told some of my friends. I want them to keep guessing. But I'm glad as hell that the surgery is in the past. Laying in bed for 24 hours for 3 weeks was not fun nor relaxing.

  • How old were you when you did this? Also when did you have braces on etc.. I'm 22 and entering a 4 year university program next year. I don't want my underbite nor do I want braces during that time. And even thinking about how much this will cost while I'm a student is such a headache. My life sucks.

  • @rush2905 i believe i was 22 when I had all this done. Yeah I did it after I graduated and had some money saved up

  • @fatbrowne oh my god i can relate, well im only seventeen but i have an underbite aswell, and the only way is for me to save up money during or after my uni course to get braces! how long did you have your braces for?

  • Hey Adam.

I got my surgery dated for May 11th. Quick question... i dont know if you have a job or not. But how long do you think it would take for me to get back to work? I do over night stock at Target.

  • @SeLaw989 i took off a week and a half from my job and during that time I had a job where I would just sit at a computer all day as a computer programmer.

So it can be different for everyone but I also felt a lot better after a week and a half vacation.

  • Awesome ^-^

  • Mine is free

  • shagy=?

  • Is there anyone from england that has had this done and that can tell me how much its costs?

  • @smoker1111111111 I am sure there must be someone that will read this and let you know how much it costs. I am sure it will be less than it is here in the USA. I paid $24,000 for the cost of everything braces, surgery and all.

  • @fatbrowne thanks for the reply dude but I found out a couple of days ago, its £10,000 if I go private but apparently I'm a candidate to have it through the NHS, so its probably gonna be free.

  • @fatbrowne whoa.

  • @smoker1111111111 It's free if you live in england aslong as you are under 18

  • @smoker1111111111 I am having this done in 3 months!! So excited! Mine is free on the NHS and everything is paid for, go to your local hospital and book and appointment with an orthodontist and you will go from there!

  • @blahconnie awesome! I wish mine was free : (. However, I am still to this day very grateful that I got it done and that mine was so successful!

  • @blahconnie I got an appointment on Monday at UCLH. I developed my underbite at around 17, so when they told me I needed it at 18 I was too old to have it for free, and I didnt have that kind of money at the time. Now I pretty much have no choie but to get it done (i'm now 24). I'm confused though because when I went to see the orthodontist he told me I could get it for free (it may be because at the moment I am unemployed). otherwise I will be forced to pay £10,000 for the op and the braces.

  • @smoker1111111111 I havn't had it done yet but i'm having it done in about 18 months time i've just started the process with my braces so far, i'm quite scared about it

  • @MALH15 I actually went to the dentist today; Originally I was told the length of time I would have the braces is a year, and then when i went to UCLH they told me 3 years which as a 24 year old is something I dont really want to do. But as people dont really notice my underbite unless i show them I asked a couple of dentists what would happen if I left it, they all said that I would be fine so I have decided against it. Good luck with yours though.

  • @smoker1111111111 I had to have the braces for 2 years but my surgery is all done and it was very successful.

If you go to my website you can see the before and after pictures.

  • beautiful work, worth suffer for a while. In my case it was only done an orthodontic treatment for 3 years .... was better tackling surgical intervention, I would have solved maybe sooner and better .... but here we are in Italy .... and for certain actions you need to be sure of hands where you end up, not to be damaged even bigger ... I wish you many beautiful things for everything you want ... ... Angelo

  • they dont give you pills well a least not me they wiered my mouth shut ang gave me liquid painkiller

  • dont you think angeline jolie need to do the jaw sur? she will look much better..

  • DUDE YOU LOOK LIKE ERIC FOREMAN FROM THAT 70'S SHOW!!!!

  • @paper04man1 newly opened surgery wounds to become infected. She should have been prescribed a powerful mouth wash. Also she should be rinsing her mouth out with warm salt water several times a day. Other than that, she should already be on pain pills, she's gonna have to fight through the discomfort and brush her teeth.

  • @paper04man1 I had this done and I became super, super dehydrated. I was in Hell. Monitor your daughter like a hawk and make sure she drinks at least a glass of water every hour. I thought I was doing enough, nah. Especially since my mouth was open, saliva was always draining out my mouth, I was losing so much fluid. And I was breathing out my mouth which made my throat dry. Horrible experience...

As for keeping her mouth clean, that's just absolutely vital. The last thing you want is for her

  • man I tell you guys what my daughter is going through this as we speak she's had the surgery and we are 4 days past it and the recovery is slow the only thing i worry about is dehydration her mouth is open alot but the swelling has gone down alot but her mouth looks horrible can't really seem to clean it and when she came home from the hospital it was like that not sure how to clean it with out hurting her

  • Did you have both the upper and lower jaw done? Or just the lower?

  • You look like you might enjoy the chronic. How long did you have to stop before the surgery? Im gettin a similar surgery next month for offset jaw and a "weak chin"

  • would i be able to hve your email to talk about the opp? the hospital want me to have it but im so nervous and would be good to talk to someone who has had it done!

  • @Ambzmatt my email is fatbrowne hotmail

  • @fatbrowne how long will it take fo my numbness to go away?? im 18 and just got the surgery done 3 days ago..... can u help me out?? give me tips plz.... thnk u!

  • i might do the operation! im fucken scared.. wat did u eat for the past week after the surgery? and any advice about the surgery?

  • @eLO419 Just stay positive about it all the way through. I ate pizza and shakes by usuing a blender

  • I HAVE THE OPOSITE OF THAT ¬¬ MY JAW IS VERY BACK... VERY....

  • @chiikoelektroo are you going to get it fixed?

  • Oh no, I had this but I did the OP. :-)

  • ihad my bottom jaw pulled back and upper moved forward, iwas an extreme case.Honestly it was the worst healing process in my entire life.ifeel awesome now and more confident but if iknew what iwas going to go thru iwould have never done it.ihink any1 that has had this done has changed them physically and mentally forever. It was like iwas frankenstein when iwoke up from surgery and then slowly turned back to into a human. My favorite song has become Kanyez Through Da Wire as ieat a jawbreaker:)

  • @ChicoBallers i agree completely

  • did they make you go to sleep while the surgery?

  • @deFATpanda yes i was out for 3-4 hours

  • i have the same problem as you, but i will get to surgery when i stop growing, and that's late :S how much years old were you before the surgery?

  • @dropeify i was 22 years old when I got the jaw surgery.

  • @fatbrowne damn :S gotta wait more less 6 years, bad sh*t :x

    thank you btw :)

  • @fatbrowne I'm having the surgery this time next year, I'll be nearly 18 then.

  • can underbites be corrected by braces? i have and underbite and thats why i got my braces . Well i HAD an overbite. ive been wearing my braces for about 2 almost 3 years now and my jaw has improved and its not as bad as it use to be but they say i need just a little bit more to go. so idk if i still need the surgery? is it painful afterwards?

  • @LaNanurXxX i don't think extreme cases like my own can be corrected. Minor cases can be corrected

  • @LaNanurXxX Apparently only one in a million people that need the surgery can have them corrected with braces alone...you could be that one

  • I had this done in 1999 and 2000, How did your surgery go? I have permanent numbness on my chin and bottom lip and had to go for a second surgery due to them messing up on one of the plastic cheek-bones they placed wrong....I am glad I had the surgery though. My underbite was much more severe than yours.....

  • @ryanjames731 well i am glad to hear that you turned out alright. Mine was good. it took like an hour longer than expected but i was out so it didn't matter to me. This happened 2 years ago in 2008 so now I am much better and if you watch my videos after the surgery you can see how the swelling went down and even how my profile looks now. All in all the surgery was great!

  • @fatbrowne My first surgery lasted 14 hours and the second was 6 hours.

  • Here in Brazil we can get this surgery for free

  • @WETDOGBR i would have a lot more money if it was free.

  • how long does it take to have one hundred percent sensation back?

Does numbness bother u a lot?

  • alright can someone help me, i have had braces for three years and they told me i supposed to get them off 1 year ago and then 4 months ago, but there still on and there saying that my bite is not perfectt, so i stopped wearing the rubberbands and my bite is fine. do u think they will stay that way? cuz i just want to tell him to tgake them off because it's starting to cost a lot of money.

  • @barrels14 that is strange usually you pay a cost upfront for the braces like in my case $4000 and no matter how long it takes you won't have to pay more. That is weird they make you keep wearing them. I suggest you keep waring the rubber bands.

  • thats exactly what my bite looks like now. i will be having surgery in about a year from now, and until then i have to have braces to aline my teeth. i'm so excited to have it done, and your results make me feel pretty confident about having it done. thanks for posting this.

  • @kettlecorn2012 No problem I am still very happy with my results and so is my fiancée

  • we have the exact same bite!

  • @grace2thec Did you already have surgery?

  • Hi, I am about to have underbite correction surgery this summer, my question is how ling did it take you to completely heal from the surgery an be able to live as you I'd before?

  • HI IM GLEN, I work at burger king

  • @hellview96x that sounds promising

  • Hey Adam, Sorry to bother you again. I was wondering if you could give me a price estimate for the actual surgery.

    Thanks

    Jay

  • @EdaBrrs $24,000 was the total cost of mine. Yours could be cheaper

  • @fatbrowne wait, what? 24000 what? dollars? no way right? thats like too much isnt it? i mean, ive heard americans get robbed by their medical system, but that's just too much, right?

  • @securuslol No it was really $24,000. My eye surgery I just had was $4000 total. That is $2000 in each eye but I can get them enhanced for life.

  • @fatbrowne sometimes when you pay cash or upfront or cash upfront they give 10% discount. LOL @ american healthcare system

  • @GarbageState yeah mine was $24,000 after I got it reduced by 40% for paying cash. but you are absolutely correct

  • @fatbrowne i'm lucky if i get 10%. most don't care for cash or upfront payment. same price. of course we realize 10 or 40% is BS. this is a medical necessity, not cosmetic. they charge whatever they want. because in the states we are not patients, we are customers.

  • 1 MONTH FROM WHAT?!

  • do u have any idea about

    DR. Richard Joseph

  • @MrToni00000 no clue

  • wooow OMG..

    its incredible..

  • what's wrong with having an underbite? it's better than having no chin :(

  • my dad says that insurance covers this is new york does anyone know if this is true?

  • I don't think that is true. I cannot imagine if that is true. Doesn't seems realistic. I don't think New York has that sort of money.

  • @AtomicUprising YEAH ITS TRU .. I GOT IT DONE

  • Hi I'm 14 years old and i have a slight underbite I can push my jaw back so my tip and bottom teeth just meet, I was wondering if jaw surgery is the inly solution to my under bite?

  • no there are other solutions. some involve wearing a big headgear that would be your braces

  • hey my name is adam too and was wondering for this operation can be done at any age or should i wait till im older, im 15

  • I think you may have to wait till you are 18 years old

  • Great results, i did not recognized you:)

In holland the insurance cover the costs to.

Had le fort 1 june 09 an now having bimaxilairy surgery in june10 ..i hope

Did you had a hard time waithing for the time to past....?

  • Not really. My mom was taking care of me and I had time off to watch movies and play games. So really I was having a great time after the surgery. Even though I was swollen for about a month I had immediate results with other people I socialized with.

  • i hear in the UK is free thanks to the NHS.

  • That sounds great!

  • did ur insurance cover any of it?

  • No not even a dime

  • If you live in Belgium they will \o/

  • I've got an underbite too but its not as bad. Instead it makes me look as if I got a flat face. How much do you have to pay to get it done?

  • $24,000

  • I need this done to

gettin braces when i'm 17 then get surgery then the braces ar back in for 6 months. after the surgery is it bad?

  • After the surgery it was not bad for me. I was able to take 2 weeks off from work and just relax

  • i gorra have the op aswell on my top n bottom jaw n braces n all that shit i hope mine goes as wel as urs did :)

  • i have an underbite....sadly :p

  • I am sorry to hear that. Did my story inspire you?

  • hey did you notice ur cheeks were fatter how long until the swelling all went away

  • Yes I noticed my cheeks were fatter. It took about a month.

  • I will have mine in few months, Is magical the change :D

  • Yes it is magical

  • i had this surgery done last friday

FYI!: don't underestimate how much swelling you will get, i look like a fat mess

  • they don't call me fatbrowne for nothing.

  • i have to have this surgery when im a lil older and im worried and what do they do

  • They did fine with mine

  • well im stll worried

  • there is no need to worry the doctor's will take good care of you

  • im going to be getting the same surgery soon. i had braces for 2 years to straighten my teeth

  • Sounds like you are in the same boat as me. Best of luck!

  • ^_^ I'll be getting the Underbite correction done sometime at the end of this year. My Dentist is making me get Braces for a while first to prep everything. I'm very excited! I just can't wait to have a normal smile.

  • It feels great and it is so worth it. I have a completely different life now and I am so much more happy after having the surgery done.

  • are you stoned?

  • No. Sorry.

  • dude i have an underbite too. it blows so much, i feel like i have a giant cleft chin lol...and sometimes its painful, like my jaw gets achy and dull pain. its like if i held a weight in my arm for a long time, that same dull achy pain i would have in my arm is in my jaw =/ im 17 now and my orthodontist says i gotta wait another 2 or 3 years so they can see my growth and stuff...man i want this surgery done now. it would really raise my self esteem.

  • Im getting this surgery tomorrow. OH BOY. bottom and top, and some cheek bone movement. should go down well.

  • Good luck

  • its been about 3 weeks since the surgery. the recovery is going pretty well, i have a lot of numbness though. it kinda sucks, but hopefully it will come back in good time. im starting to eat again, which is kinda difficult with the numbness and all. but its all good

  • I just had this surgery how did you keep your teeth and mouth clean, thanks

  • I swished that cleaning liquid in my mouth while I was still recovering. Now I just brush my teeth with arm and hammer toothpaste.

  • So the total cost of the surgery was 24K?

    Do insurances cover this?

  • Not one penny!

  • Hey my question is about the finance part. Like were u required to pay the whole cost of surgery in bulk b4 undergoing it or it was on ur insurance plan?

  • I had to pay the whole $24,000 within 1-2 years without interest. Otherwise there would be like 20% interest fees if I missed a monthly payment or did not get it paid all the way off.

  • How old were you when you got this surgery??? (Sorry, if it's already been asked before!!)

  • It was in 2008 so I would have been 22.

  • i had a 2 cm gap now its just perfect. it cost me 0$ yay sweden

  • Sweden must be nice.

  • Did you get your braces off after you got the sugery?

I just notice they were gone in the after picture

B/c im also getting jaw sugery and hoping the braces will be off!

  • i got them off like 6 months after

  • And how long have you had braces?

  • probably almost 2 years I wore braces

  • ya... ik i have an over bite, but jaw surgery.... not needed.... ( ignore this comment )

  • I had an underbite

  • hay i got an under bite and im wandering how much did it cost ya for it all do you know

  • Total was in the range of $24,000

  • hey guys i want to ask because in my case i have an open bite so what i am going to do to correct it?

  • Jaw Surgery?

  • I have to have Jaw Surgery as well in July...except I'm having upper jaw surgery. But, I suppose it's the same basic principle and I was kind of wondering how bad does it hurt? Scale from 1-10? I am so nervous!!

  • I would say 2 or 3 in my case. 1 being it did not hurt at all. Like it says on my WebSite bad was not an issue for me

  • Thanks! That really relieves some of my worry! If you dont mind, I have two more quick questions for you. Firstly, did they use titanium plates in your face or the absorbable plastic plates? Secondly, if titanium plates were used, do you set the alarm off when you go through airport security?

  • I had titanium and no the alarms do not get set off. I have recently flew up to New York as you can see from my New York video and I had no problems at the airport.

  • No I was in the hospital only for one day. I didn't even spend the night. My mom drove me home late at night and the next day I woke up sort of drugged up still and made that video.

I just really wanted to let everyone experience the the day after was like.

Great to hear you will make a video response of your own.

  • cheers pal, i think i might make some alright... eh on one of ur video's, u made jus after the surgery, did u say it was one day after the surgery? how many days were u in hospital for? i think im gonna be in for 4-5 days, were u the same?

  • Heya Adam,

i've seen ur other vidoes, what a difference, i'm havin my surgery on the 9th of April, startin to worry a little bit because when i started with the braces and all it felt like it'd never come round, im gettin both jaws done :|

i guess i should have made vidoes for others... is it too late to?

  • No I made my video like 1 month before I knew I was going to have surgery. I would highly suggest that you make one and you could respond to my video so that others could see your story.

  • how long did you have to wear the braces after surgery and were your teeth straight or crooked before the surgery?
