Theres enough oil shale in the world (estimated 4 trillion barrels of oil, 3 trillions of which is located in the US, compared to 1 trillion barrels of conventional oil) and we can in with the right technology and with good will produce enough oil for the world for over 300 years.

Conventional oil will start depleting before 2030, and we are probably on the peak plateau right now.

your title is very misleading. and what you are failing to explain is how serious it actually is. oil is the cheapest energy source possible and nothing will come close to replacing its efficiency, not even nuclear comes close. The entire global infrastructure is based on oil. Furthermore the effect of the price of production rising is hyperinflation on the economy and economic collapse. @670Kiester Where the experts are wrong is in saying "nothing can replace oil". How could they overlook efficiency? When the economies are efficient, running on hemp and not toxic oil, products last, and oil demand would significantly decrease. Everything that is made from oil now (almost everything) could be made with non-toxic hemp oil.

Legalize Cannabis/hemp and much less energy would be wasted on the phony war on drugs. The military consumes so much energy to engage in war for more oil.

Not that hemp wouldn't improve things for a little bit. But you seem to make the same assumption that has led to the dead end of oil. If we switch to hemp and both population and living standards keep increasing, invariably you will run out of land to produce the hemp. Then you'd have to switch to something else, and then again. Well the world doesn't keep giving us more of more options endlessly. The root of the problem is not the resources we use, rather the way we use them.
