  • Please value a true korean culture.

  • Last time I check yea for the Haedong Gumdo.

  • This isn't kendo, it's haedong GUMDO. The two are very different.

  • I wouldn't say "Very" different... Compared to other sword systems in the world, these two styles are pretty much the same... haha

  • @GuamKomudo Kendo and Haedong Gumdo are not "pretty much the same" and even a cursory comparison of the two would show that. In kendo there is no jumping through the air, spinning of the sword, or anything close to the flamboyant maneuvers that HDG practitioners do.

  • That is for show, I'm sure they fight much differently. Besides, they use almost the same sword and I saw many of the same techniques. They are more the same than Kendo and Viking long sword... Korea and Japan have been killing the crap out of eachother for years. You learn to fight your enemy, notice how Korea and Japan randomly have alot of the same moves in their martial arts. Aikido and Hapkido wrist locks. HwaRangDo grappling and Jujitsu. Karate kicks and Taekwondo kicks. Learn together

  • @GuamKomudo For one thing, we do not use real swords in kendo except for high level kata demonstrations. What you see in this video is just about all that HDG is. Also, kendo was created in the mid 1800's and was introduced to Korea during the Japanese occupation whereas HDG was created in 1982 with its co-creators admitting to fabricating the entire history of HDG in Korean court documents. It would be more correct to say that HDG is more similar to Chinese wushu.

  • not bad
