Although not my fav magi by any means Mr Vincent has more skill in his little toe than Blaine does in his entire body. Blaine was perfect for the MTV generation... until he hung from Tower Bridge and met the English...
Im always so impressed with how David Blaine influenced others performance. He was so ahead of his time. With his approach, Angel is in debt to his style
Mike Vincent was doing close up magic like this 20 years ago. If you think what you see here was influenced by David Blaine, it shows that your knowledge of magic starts with Blaine.
Where my knowledge of magic started is irelevant to
Vincents performance. I ment the magic in the streets with MTV style cameramen, cutting straight to the specs reaction. D.B did a lot to influence this sort of style/concept. Sure others did similar things but not with such impact on the community.
It's a bit chicken and egg, really. Performing in the round at parties (garden parties, cocktail functions and so on) is as old as the hills. I'll admit Blaine was the first to take a TV crew with him. Also, the first to work for hillbillies in clothes he seems to have slept in, which seems to have been copied A LOT on Youtube.
Yes, Mr. Blaine is one of the most copied, ripped off, and imitated magicians of all time... FOR GOOD REASON, he's a good magician. Also a very nice fellow
Just because DB has made magic on the streets popular doesn't mean he invented it. 200 years ago street magicians did not have he added benefit of tv camera's following them around. I have performed magic under many different types of conditions over the last 20 years. The points you raised were most valid and appreciated.
Mike - it's a pleasure to know you and a privilege to be your colleague at La Fugue. Some great magic sir. Awesome. Rich

That was a wonderful little promo. It made you seem like a real people person and a wonderful entertainer. Which you obviously are.
