  • Done lovely by JT. Mind you Laura Nyro does it even better. Baz

  • So genuine, such soul . . . James Taylor is still the best!

  • This helped me get thru the war- thanks JT, on the roof - always

  • An all hit wonder.

  • Grew up on the Vineyard in the 60's and early 70's, and it was normal to see him almost daily, not just in the summer but year round. Just a good decent guy and most islanders were very protective of him and his privacy. Most islanders referred to him as Jim.

  • @nitramfan

He is good! Is he Canadian or American?

  • @katszrina797

James Taylor was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on March 12, 1948.

    :)

  • it felt so good on the roof<3

  • love it :) so relaxing..

  • love it :) so relaxing..

  • :)

  • His voice melts me. So calm and soothing, and unusual.

  • Great guitarist, terrible singer.

  • @jimmybrown11111 Dylan & Petty are bad singers, hell I will even put the Boss in there, James is in no way a bad singer.

  • @dac19642010 well i personally prefer singers with good vibrato, and ability to go from power to soft singing, whether a singer can use vibrato or not shows how much control over their voice they have.

  • @jimmybrown11111 Agree, but not everyone can sing like Bono, or Paul McCartney, or Robert Plant. Take Elton, Billy Joel, Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc, all great singers but no where near the caliber of the first three. I still think James is a great singer and song writer!! But all cool!!!!

  • @dac19642010 You know actually Billy Joel is a very good singer For The Longest Time and Just The Way You Are show it. To me truly skilled singers would be Tom Jones ex. I Who Have Nothing, and Engelbert Humperdinck The Way It Used To Be.

  • @jimmybrown11111 I agree with you! But what do you think of guys like Harry Chapin, Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot or Paul Simon? Not the greatest of singers but they can hold a note and man can they tell a story!!

  • @jimmybrown11111 Vibrato is an optional thing for the voice, just as it's an optional thing on the guitar. I think people put too much emphasis on it at the expense of tone, which is the biggest part of what makes a great, timeless voice. James Taylor is the king of tone. But this performance is not the best showcase of his voice. This is a really intimate performance, meant to be touching, not bombastic.

  • This is --among all other wonders-- guitar virtuoso

  • nice song

  • One of my favorites. Goes right for the soul.

  • Very soothing....JT really relaxes my tired mind

  • A piece of musical craftsmanship, but I kid you not, until you've heard it while sitting on a roof, any roof, while the stars are twinklin' and the moon is shinin', you haven't heard it in all its glorious soul-soothing richness. Try it...please. You'll never forget it. Thanks MFYF for this timeless and comforting memory.

  • i love this song when i was a kid

  • breath of fresh air - fabulous

  • The most underrated guitar player and one of most nicest artists around too. Belongs to a timeless era of pure talent.

  • @taildragger53 I have to agree with you man. Have you seen James with Carole King back in the 70's.. amazing

  • @1nephi1117 Oh yes. I lived in London during that time and i recall seeing Carole King during her "One To One" Tour around 1982 (Hammersmith Odeon). She had a young kid playing guitar called Eric Johnson. (today a famous man) He stole the show! Carole King , Laura Nyro..such amazing songwriters.

  • A distinctive voice, colourful, beatiful. And still going strong. Keep on doing, James!

  • I heard JT sing on American Idol and he is one of the FEW who still have a beautiful clear singing voice....Go James Taylor!

  • thanks for uploadin, such a cool cat!

  • some of these songs even on utube its nearly impossiable to find the original recordings from some of these musicans, and even tis isnt the way that i remember it..up on the roof and handy man are the only two songs that i like by jt.i finally found the version of handy mam from 1977 radio version its here on utube but ya gotta look really hard....thanks,tlf...
