this looks like it's pre 4.06 or whenever it was they buffed him. it looks very easy to avoid the tornadoes and time the knockback run-ins with the added factor of the ice path. this is not the case in current content it is much harder (at least on 10 man)
When you run into melee range occasionally during this fight you can throw a Shadowflame on Al'Akir. Minor dps increase but if you're not doing anything better with your GCD it can't hurt. Good vid.
