do you think if there was a disagreement between Canada and the USA, and Canada decided to shift oil sales to china, and we know the Chinese would be more then happy to move into Canada , do you think the US would force the oil to be sold to America by force, also do you think Canada is for the most part taken for granted by the American government and probably shouldn't be ?
what do u think about Canada and its huge quantity's of natural resourses if you include tar sands it has the second lagest oil deposits in the world canada is the number 1 supplier of oil to the USA also many other materials the world needs also the most fresh water in the world or do u just count canada as a part of America
@battim do you think that if there happened to be some sort of disagreement between the USA and Canada and Canada shifted oil sales to china as it has threatend to do for example over America not honoring certain NAFTA rules the US would force Canada to sell to then to the USA by force

More people need to talk about the importance of population control. Our energy problems on this planet and most of our problems are due to overpopulation. That's the main reason why India and China are perceived as emerging threats, and why the USA is an energy consumption threat to our stability as a species.
like it or not, it is happening rght in front of your eyes. rather than actually trying to refute it, you simply give a baseless empty comment. but 9/11 conspiracists are all the same, you dont need proof t believe, join islam they think the same way.
then please share with us your wisdom, because what i said would happen is happening, are you denying russia is and will exert is economic geopolitical power and the saudi's dont run things in arabia? you are the only one who is lost...please tell us the turth and stop with your sock accounts....
Let me save you ten minutes. It still cost 2 dollars a barrel to produce oil. The dollar is the same rate as it was against the Pound and the Euro as last year at this time. And, OH! The world is using more oil than ever but having to pay twice as much as last year for light sweet crude.
the dollar is down against them. supply and demand would account for that. the first staement is bullshit. it costs a ton more than two bucks a barrel to produce, distribute, refine, etc etc etc....such simplicity in media is the problem with the issue
The average 2008 monthly Euro rate has stayed a constant 0.769 to 0.687 same as last year and Sterlings 2008 average has also remained constant the past year from 0.510 to 0.482 Those that would have you believe the Dollar has taken a nose dive, simply not true. And it still costs 2 dollars a barrel to pump oil out of the ground. Unless it is non light crude such as the Allegeny range or the much talked about Shale oil deposits in the West where high pressue steam is used.
colombia would crush venezuala and few would stand in its way. chavez is disliked even by leftists in south america. he seems to be bating war. why, who freaking knows, he's no castro. like i said, regional wars will happen.
obviously Colombia would crush Venezuela, because they are supported by the great U.S.A. and Chavez is throwing money out of the window (like all other socialists)
agreed. and colombia and some vert well trained troops. you're correct, american trained with maerican weaponry. socialists do toss moeny around to stay in power...chavez is in deep doodoo politically.
i dont disagree china salivates at the thought of siberia. i think israel nuke count is higher actually. the ksovon separation does noone good, agreed, it will cause conflict. russia and nato are scitzophrenic is georgia and kosovo, i agree. good points.
hmmm, the pakistani-indo conflict benefits russia and china much more than the states. bothare strategic powers to the US, and balancing that is awkward with them at odds. china and russia benefit when two of natural and historical enemies are at odds. be well.
LOL. I don't even watch the news. Too many different argumentative views. Honestly, I get most of my information through blogs and whatever's on my home page. I like to read all the different view points at my leisure and without all the "noise". =)
Besides, you're kinda cute. So I've decided you can be my personal news anchor man. *he he* Yes, I'm instigating again.
batttim, luv this new piece as well the rest of the collection. Could you comment on the recent protest of China in Darfur by the west and the US human rights movement. Besides the obvious China being a convenient whipping boy, I think it may also have something to do with their (west's and US's) evil attempt to suffocate China's oil exploration in Africa, in addition to the genocide issue. Luv to hear from you. thanks.
i don't believe china's humanitarian efforts are any less self interested than "spreading democracy" the west claims to want. anytime a power shows interest it has to do with wealth. be well.
oh my gosh umumumumumuumum for a crap long part of the video I konw some times ppl will forget stuff and I use to say um alot too but at least I did ONEC OR TOCES this guy use it alot more times learn to remimber stuff...
its a dense amount of information and very complicated, its hard to talk about all factors and how complicated it is. i'm sorry if my ummms bothered you so much.
You did a great job explaining the situation -it's quite the mess. The one thing about China and their profits though, is that they are investing in Africa where large oil areas have been discovered. The Chinese are clever about this because they go in as humanitarians and provide safety for these countries, but with the movation of getting at the oild reserves there. I just think it's time to get off oil - and we're screwed until the auto industry realizes this.
they certainly are. they are also trying to buy interests in australian resource companies as well. america claims their military escapades are based in democracy and freedom blah blah blhah. same shit, different oil field.
Exactly... if we are in the business of freedom and democracy then why are we not doing more for the poor people of Africa? Sure we throw them a bone now and again... but we will never invest in really helping them with infrastructure and the like... because, they don't have anything we want.
SEC chairman Arthur Levitt has often said, "The best time to fix the roof is when the sun is shining." We are going to have to find a new way and soon; I read in Time the other day that they are working on Biofuel originating from algae... you would THINK the government would be jumping through hoops to try and fund this kind of research... but that would allow more people to live "off the grid" and the government does not really want that. Less control to be had by them.
we have more oil in alaska and off the gulf cost then the arabs have, thats a fact, but the higher ups wont allow us to get it.. the chinnese are going to try to tap in to the gulf oil from behind cuba or some place over there by drilling sideways... this is all true..im not making this up lol
we have some oil, but not even close to what the arabs have. according to most estimates the saudi's have ten times the USA has. if you are including canada the estimates jump drastically. the USA ranks a paltry 12th. thats a fact.
Canada tapping into our oil? Huh? Canada is our TOP supplier of oil and has been for a mighty long time. You're right though, lots and lots of disinformation out there when it comes to the oil industry. Canada isn't tapping into our oil, they supply us with oil - more than any other country on our list of suppliers. There, now ya know the truth! :-)
Thanks Michelle5451. It was just yesterday while I was talking to someone about how Newt G wants us to drill now they responded with some rant about how C is drilling down into our supplies ha ha... I flippantly repeated it... thanks so much for the TRUTH!
Well you can inform that person who went on that rant that they are totally ignorant. Canada supplies us with more oil than Saudi Arabia (our second largest supplier). In fact, show them this - replace the (dot) with actually dots/periods
you would think these leaders of countries would know better after the lessons of Easter Island...i think the movie the Matrix sums it up...cool stuff Battim...
Hm... as for China and those other Asian countries, I don't have much to say about them till I do a little research but as for the U.S. and Russia and other countries, they probably wont be affected by anything until we hit "Peak Oil". We're not even close to that yet, I forget the report that I read about it in, I can't find it anywhere but I hope I'm not too far off. Lemme start another comment too because I'm almost outta characters here haha.
Okay, but if Russia does try to do a choke hold on it's oil, I really don't think P.M. Putin would even allow it. He's trying his best to be friendly all over the world and if anything he'll try his best to become a very strong ally with China by lending them a very eager helping hand if they have a problem with their oil supplies.
Just my little 2cents. =) Hope it was fruitful and not just garbage like a few comments on here...
=) it would be nice to see that country become a little ricer, those people need it over there... you ever see their AIDs Awareness buildings? Run down shacks with no supplys, it's really sad for a country that's trying so hard to get back on its feet. Putin is doing a prettty good job with it though!
thats the fault with every capitalistic system though, there's no failsafe for the poor once they lose their cash on the system unless there are some socialist aspects to the government
for as bad as people portrayed him to be, and he did kill a lot of people but a lot of those politicans he killed were disgustingly corrupt to begin with and were eating that country alive from the inside. the country is rich in real-estate, and that's going under in a black market sceme which is crashing their markets. And he just demoted himself to Prime Minister, he still makes most of the executive decisions .... he pulled that country from the garbage and is turning it into gold
killing anyone for policitcal gain smells. and he killed and imprisoned journalists that were pro democracy too. he did not demote himself...he had term limits. aas for still making those decisions, it apparent that he is not, there is already conflict. he is corrupt. oil and wheat are making it gold, not him. the oil ministers are brilliant there. putin just lined his pockets with cash. its that simple. he is no less czarist than any russian leader.
haha i never missed that part of his bio at all... i have a friend who's from st petersburg and said that "if you were an adult male during the soviet union days, you were kgb if you were smart and wanted to be rich."
that's like pointing out that one of our candidates for the election was in the army... (okay, kgb was more intel and assasine like, but its the closest analogy i can think of)...
ack had a silly comment exceeded thing to fill out and lost my last post. Look at the years he was KGB, and he was only a mid-level agent because of his hometown being st.petersburg he didn't want to stand out and get executed (cold war times) so it's not like he even got to be that high of an agent.
what i'm trying to get at is, politicans are all the same around the world, and Putin isn't special because of it... but he did pull that country up off of its knees and kick started it
my point is, he didn't do any of that. the oil ministers that were there before did that. the only thing he has done is pocketed profit they worked for. politician take credit for things they have nothing to do with. he had little to do with it. and what do you think midlevel kgb agents did? lol. thugs.
you keep saying that but add nothingto the conversation. kind of moronic. again what is your forecast and why? make a video and explain your forecast...specific points otherwise you look not so bright.
its actually something that many countries have poured a ton of moeny in researching. not such a dumb idea at all. google it i think you'd be surprised.
that was a poor train of thought. the basis for you thinking is flawed. you discount some basic control factors regarding the geopolitical structure and even climate. you also fail to factor how war amongst countries will impact this.
the poor train of thought is on your part. unpredictable events such as climate catastrophes and war are unpredictable. let me explain what that means. impossible to predict, therefore impossible to forecast. lol. just liek in science you can't factor in events that are impossible to know. that being said how will that affect supply and demand factors on food and oil, it will simply raise the demand on them, therefore russia andd the kingdom still win. net exporters.
history tells us that war is not unpredictable. in difficult economic times, wars happen for natural resoures. this WILL happen again. re clinate, Russia is in a extremely cold climate. they can only produce SO much grains and food given their limited growth season and adequate growing area. do you really think China would not invade Russia to get some of these resources? do you really think the world is just going to let Russia take all the oil under the North Pole without a fight?
then predict the next war for us...lol. you miss the point, these are what forecasters call unpredictable events. you apparently don't get that. Russia is huge, sir. Alot of it is in temperate climate and there "bread basket" is the second largest producers of grain in the world (consistently). do you think russia would sit idly by with an arsenal of missiles and an air force second only, maybe, to the US? lol. they could sink china's oil region in five days.
its not about the oil in the north pole, without that russia has the fourth largest reserves in the world. this vlog is about the next decade. please listen. it would take 15-20 years to get the arctic oil on tap if they started TODAY. your train of thought is based on not listening to what the vlog is about.the next decade, not 40 years in the future.by the way, war is not predictable and neither is the outcome of said war. history shows us that.stratfor, economists, etc disagree with you.
i am one of those economists and i do not disagree with myself. LOL, if you don't think war is predictable, this conversation cannot continue. Go do your homework student, before you tell the teacher he is wrong, lololololololol.
wel, again, the vlog was about geopolitical influence and certainly you can't deny the econmoic growth of russia and saudi arabia. my homewrok is done, your straw man tactics certainly show how silly your ideas are, because you can'ttalk about points. I'm forty, son. again please predict the next war genius.
Alexander Chizhevsky in Russia and Raymond Wheeler in America made studies of the history of war, analyzing all known battles over a 2500 year period. Edward Dewey of the Foundation for the Study of cycles. Their conclusions have been supported by many well known researchers. War IS predicatble. It is based upon factors including drought, climate change, and the need for both food stuffs and natural resoources used at that time in history.
ok then, predict it for us. lol. and economists don't forecast based on silly notions of historical theory. they did there research in hindsight and have been strongly criticized. you make it seem as if your point of view is the only one...and which is it, are you a lawyer or an economist and do you make up your profession depending on the conversation? did they have nukes 2500 years ago? certainly not. you have'nt addressed one issue
OK, OK, OK mastermind...i rewatched you video and you state that Russia is a BIG WINNER becuase they are well funded and technically advanced in the areas of food????? Man oh man, you are shitting on my parade and you haven't even gotten this one correct. They do NOT have a well advanced food ANYTHING. IF they have food, it is poor. After 4:23 I will speak on your other losey thoughts.
yes. they have become much more efficinet in ther farming techniques. they are well funded, you said yourself multinational companies are investing in that infrastructure. know it all attitudes, such as yours, blind you to the reality of how things are going. and the point of the vlog was about wealth and geopolitical influence. oil being the center of that. russia is a net exporter of food.
you do know that russia is spending billions modernizing their farms, right? putin laid it out as such... 1. increase gross output, especially of grain, through increasing the area under cultivation, as well as yields;
2. technological re-equipping of agriculture and the food-processing industry, using innovative land and technology leasing schemes and long-term credit 3. achieve price stability, especially for motor lubricants and fertilizer, using "anti-monopoly regulation and subsidies"
4. better risk management and agriculture sector insurance 5. constant monitoring of the food products markets, "and if prices exceed established limits, there should be automatic measures, and I mean purchasing interventions, and regulation using import and export tariffs.
that wasa copy and paste of translated russian agricultural policy going into 2008.
no, of course not, some have used real research to support wacky theories. anyway, i am an attorney and a macro economist (it is possible to be both you know). i also own other businesses too! regardless, I told you i like you very much, but your theories in your video leave out SOOO many factors of climate, unrest, etc. you speak of only the next decade, but the infrastructure isn't there now to support the russia idea in 10 years. militarily they have sold off so much just to eat.
actually i spoke to unrest and global food shortages and there impact on that. regardless, how does that impact russia and the saudi's on the rise economically? the trend certain predates this vlog. its already happening. militarily russia is still THE power in East Asia. they are weakened (conflict of interests between higher officers and the executive branch to blame) but have an ease of ability to cripple the industrial triangle of china...keeping china at bay.
your knowledge of military vulnerability is lacking. china is geographically ripe for the picking when it comes to war. in very little time the entire infrastructure of china could be destroyed. china agressiveness will be economic for the foreseeable future to the west and north of its borders. it has more to gain with troops in africa.
Russia has a very bad infrastructure for the production of QULAITY food stuffs. they are the laughing stock of the world when it comes to food products. additionally, the companies that have the ability to produce the quality foods in Russia are mutli-international companies, (Dirol Cadbury, Kraft Foods, and Mars LLC). the wealth from any increase in food production would be absorbed outside russia by these companies.
mostly the vlog spoke to oil. will you deny how waelthy russia is becoming from oil? lol. the vlog is called oil and geopolitics. you didn't address your claim cihna will invade russia. silliness.
apparently you've done little research on land abandonement in russia. The rural depopulation naturally leads to the contraction of farmland. Because land that is likely to be retained under cultivation is a better match to people's actual ability to cultivate it, fewer resources are going to be wasted, and the overall efficiency of Russia's agriculture is likely to rise as a result. efficiency means profit. profit means waelth. weath means geopolitical power. add it to oil, you got a plus.
Resource depletion and population pressures are a definite sign of the end of the world as we know it.Either we choose to follow the elite who manipulate the mass media and insist we hang on to our sense of power and entiltelment through war and control or we join a movement of change in how we view the future through world peace, social justice and enviromental protection.Great topic.
hey angel, how are you? the problem with this technology that was done on a very small scale is this, it takes more energy to run the radio waves that "burn" the water than it the "burning" water makes to power the engine. in other words, net energy consumed, efficiency is negative.
actually we were talking about, in this thread, russia's resource management. timber certainly a resource. the comments have been about lots of things, not just oil. as for your second point, well taken.
the wide sweep of your discussion points to the fact that the world is now much more interconnected. China and India demanding more oil for their expanding economies affects the price of oil futures dramatically.
But what happens over 10-20 years depends on the development of alternative sources of energy.
Wow that is excellent analysis. I agree that China is going to be in big trouble soon as energy gets more expensive. Do you have a degree in Poli Sci or something?
its odd how environmentalist put thousands of birds over millions of humans at times. i think these are extreme exapmle, but par for the course with some greenies.
Enjoyed it. I share your views on Russia and China. I see Venezuela pushing hard to raise their status on the global stage, but you're right spot on in regard to corruption and poverty. The one item I think is still up for grabs is the true reason oil prices are rising and rising. I don't feel supply/demand has caused this jump in price, unless it's linked to China's needs. I think there is a much larger game being played and we may catch a glimpse of this after the CFTC investigation.
This is good for several reasons. I have a diesel truck to pull a 5th wheel. So I look at sucking diesel fuel. It worries me, but food prices are up. Other countries which need food, doctors, we are all tied together, Russia/China, but we choose not to think of it in our small world. I am sorry if I went on a tangent. Your words make me think. Exports of oil and FOOD, medications, people caught in the middle, where does it leave them? So it leaves us to war?
Places with oil are no more at peace, Darfur, Sudan most obviously. South Africa, far more "developed" is struggling to accept Nigerians...If there is a line in the sand people will fight over it.
Concise comments to come, but I wanted to say that your point on the rise of developing nations and the connection with cars and electricity/food consumption in those nations is a great fact to demonstrate part of the rise in oil/food prices.
well an event could change the discussion (an event meaning a breakthrough). as for combustibles, algae oil seems to have a lot of upsides. nuclear energy is being expanded all over the world. it should be an interesting decade, but oil will still be king for a bit.
The US is spending like a crack addict who is given money by a loving parent to try and "get their life together." Sadly that money is only used to buy more crack rather than a one way trip to rehab. It costs more to get the milk from the cow to the store thus we are all facing personal economic hardships that I fear we have not yet seen the worst of.
yeah i saw a vlog using that metaphor today, too bad its faulty. its much more complex than that. industrial powers have to consume. but certainly one can't complain about the tandard of living in the states.
Yes and no IMO. While we have a ton of problems and bloon on this administrations hands, at least we aren't China/Burma/Afghanistan/Iraq/insert screwed over country here.
things are not that simple, nothing is. simplifying things to simple metahpors is "Sexy" but faulty. geopolitics is so complicated. americans have it pretty fucking good. americans are simply not crack heads and the USA is no crackhouse. the metaphor raises eyebrows but make no sense, really.
well there are other ways to make electiricity. coal, nuclear, etc. we;d have to revamp our entire energy plan dramatically. as for hybrids, they use less gasoline per unit of travel. still uses gasoline, but its more efficient with combustible energy.
Don't forget the amount of money that the US was bailed out by by China. If they recalled that debt, the US and therefore the west would be in deep doo doo. Let's also not lose sight of the fact that the reason why oil is so expensive has more to do with foreign speculators who were only ever interested in making money and destabilising the financial markets. It's not even money, it's shifting financial characters on a keyboard! These people should be brought to task for what they have done.
well you cant simply recall the debt. its called treasury bonds. china has a lot of bad debt outstanding, it doesnt bode well for them to sell when the dollar is weak, they'd lose their shirts. its not that simple. the west would not be in deep doo doo, china would, if we are broke, who is buying their shit? noone. i agree on the speculation front, OPEC does not play by the rules of free market.
You really are one dumb MF. Guess what? The US has more energy in the form of oil under the ground and off shore to take care of our present day needs for a century. So why don't we drill for it? Because there is a group of oil barrons who do not wish to. Now if the enviornmentalists would wise up and accept the fact that we need oil; we could solve our energy problems in a decade. Go to church and pray. You appear to be a very religious man and maybe that will take you into the future.
who is a dumb mother fucker? lol. simply starting your comment with that phrase implies your limited intellect. is it the oil barons (who have been begging to drill it) or environmental groups preventing. public record begs to differ with you. i am not religious at all (what gave you that idea?) that being said, my vlog wasn't about american oil at all, did you watch it?
In my new job we actually talked about what countries are ok, and which ones aren't, and America is definately in the lower catagory with China... it's kinda scary really. I have been told hybrids aren't much better because we are using electricity (IE fossil Fuels) I think it is strange why so many women come to America to get married, I never realized how much so until I moved with a Russian, but he and I talk alot about the economy in Russia, and it is getting better. PS nice hair Tim
hair is getting chopped soon...russia will continue to do well, population growth of zero and amasing wealth. the USA is by far not near the bottom, we still have vast resources and a GNP 3 times that of the next closest producer.
Oil is not going to be a problem in 20 years. technology is advancing everyday. For instance a air car that looks really promising will be on the market this summer. they will probably combine that technology with fuel cell and electric cars over the next decade creating the ultimate hybrid.
Second Brazil just discovered they're sitting on a ton of oil more than the oil states have.
Also we should be worrying about our education system and economy. We need to improve greatly in those areas if we plan to keep up. Oil is the least of our problems.
We waste so much money and need to get our priorities straight.
well, if by system you mean parent giving a shit about their kids learning to read and write and think inventively, yes, i agree. the education system ain't broken, the folks who are supposed to make sure there kids are learning are broken in the head.
well my vlog is about the next decade or so. and as russia, the Kingdom and others amass wealth from oil, they will begin have more geopolitical influence, that is, regional influence. thats what the vlog was about. cars are but a fraction of the problem. i don't think people realize how much we do with oil besides feed our cars.
brazil is sitting on some oil that isn't easy to get to (and it seems it is sulphur ridden and tough to process). the state have ton of oil they capped or havent even touched. see montanan oil, canadain sands and east florida gulf oil.
Explain? Trying to use logic on the answer to this would make a super-computer crash AND burn! It's like six of one, half-a-dozen of another. Use more electricity due to charging the systems, etc. Great question!
Everyone always talks about the middle east for usa's oil, but the US gets more oil from canada then any other country. Although Canadians see no benifit to that since all the oil is controlled by private companies.
the USA indeed gets the bulk of our oil domestically, from canada, the Kingdom, mexico, venezual and nigeria. the middle east fuels asia, who give the USA cheap consumables. canadians see a HUGE tax windfall from energy companies and gasoline retail taxes. in fact, if the USA is an example, the government makes more off of oil then oil companies do.
Hmmm..i'm still abit confused as to why the oil prices shot up. This might sound dumb, but, if the US controls the Iraqi oil, which is the largest supply of oil remaining (Saudi Arabia hasn't got much left), why would oil prices shoot up? Couldnt they increase output for the demand? Or is it that they purposely restrict the output to drive up costs? I'm probably way off base here...
oil prices. production has hit levels that most countrie are comfortable with outputting. demand is up on a stagnant supply. speculation is a bit rampant in futures. i think we could see a pull back on prices but the days of 2.00 gasoline is way gone, i think.
by the way, the saudi's are awash in oil. they have the largest production capacity and largest reserves in the world. not to mention they have good oil, the light sweet kind. the US does not control iraqi oil and iraq is not the largest oil reserves in the world. canada and saudis (by almost double). iran and iraq are neck and neck at third.
not really. there are mechanical limitations. chavez is learning this in venezuala. chavez lost most of his good engineers to either firing them or imprisoning them or to foreign oil companies who paid them more, hence they can't build anything new or fix what they have, hence less porduction. in order for saudi arabia to bump production much more, they'd need more mechanical capacity, they are close to peaking.
Necessity is the MOTHER of all invention. Lots of oil comes from Canada and the Artic is up for grabs too. Diversify- it is always good policy not to have all the eggs in one basket. It is best to have a calm, confident, long- term approach but humans in groups rarely agree on more than what to do now so that we won't starve or die, what will be left for our children? They will have to be more creative than us, and they will be- with much better technology to assess matters. Time and patience.
Why is it when people intelligently or angrily discuss various methods for reducing our dependency on oil and express worry about the future of the planet and the human race, I never hear anyone tossing into the ring the suggestion of slowing down the population of the world. Anyone ever consider that the biggest problem depleting resources (fuel, oil, food, etc.) just might be over population and perhaps we oughta address that also?
Humans do not understand exponential growth and we should, beyond the save the polar bear environmental whining there are mathematical facts that explain what is happening. More minds are better for solving problems yes, yes you need enough children to care for elderly (or build robots), no humans can't agree philosophically on the issue. Look at the families in China who lost only children- there is no answer save make more types of birth control available, and free.
japan and china are working on robotic nursing units. culturally birth control is not yet viable because of theological and cultural belief systems. how do we overcome that?
I'm not a fan of expecting the government to correct all that ails humanity. I am a huge fan of being personally accountable and when I say we need to address the population problem, I don't mean what can the government do about it, I mean what choices can we make as indivuals to address it? Do couples really need 3, 4, 5 or more kids? I believe the biggest contribution an individual can make to ensure the future of the earth's resources and humanity it to make a decision to limit themselves.
michelle, its cultural. systemically in societies where populations are growing, we have cultural issues and reeducation, literally reprogramming to do. in most developed countries you see negative to zero population growth. its immigration that causes most population spikes in the developed world (illegal and legal). we need to get the third world to start thinking ahead, not behind.
Good idea, how do you propose going about though? Most of the population increase is coming from poor 3rd world countries....maybe ship them lots of free condoms?
Hey tehkao - I actually have many thoughts on the matter, but it would take way too long to type. So, I'll simply address your condom suggestion - I highly doubt that would work considering they've already been introduced to condoms (particularly Africa) to help stop the spread of AIDS, to save their own lives...and that seemingly hasn't gone very far. The answer is there, we just need to start talking about it - the earth is full.
tribal leaders call western ways "voodoo" it so complicated. also when 8 of your ten kids are gona be dead by 12, you tend to have a lot of kids. its sooooo complicated.
I know it's complicated, but that doesn't mean we can't start to address it. I'm more concerned about the over population of the developed world. I saw a woman on the subway yesterday - had three kids all under five and was about 8 months pregnant. Personal responsibility for ensuring the future of the human race lies with limiting the number of people we continue to put on this earth, not having kid after kid after kid.
Well, that's how it usually goes, when something rises something else goes to another direction. Anyhow, the heating system of my house gets its energy from the sunlight. That system was expensive, but by the time it gets cheaper than a system that uses oil. Besides, this system doesn't pollute that much.
The future is not in oil, but in some less polluting (and not too costy) way to produce the energy. That way may come from - who knows where! The one who invents that thing, will get rich.
heating systems like that will be the standard in the next generation of homes. alreayd seeing it all over the world. the immediate future is in oil, and that what the vlog speaks to. as for forecasting 20 years from now, i think thats tough to do. and i agree they will get rich, how are you by the way?

do you think if there was a disagreement between Canada and the USA, and Canada decided to shift oil sales to china, and we know the Chinese would be more then happy to move into Canada , do you think the US would force the oil to be sold to America by force, also do you think Canada is for the most part taken for granted by the American government and probably shouldn't be ?

what do u think about Canada and its huge quantity's of natural resourses if you include tar sands it has the second lagest oil deposits in the world canada is the number 1 supplier of oil to the USA also many other materials the world needs also the most fresh water in the world or do u just count canada as a part of America
achammer 1 year ago
not part of america, but certainly an interdependant of america.
battim 1 year ago
@battim do you think that if there happened to be some sort of disagreement between the USA and Canada and Canada shifted oil sales to china as it has threatend to do for example over America not honoring certain NAFTA rules the US would force Canada to sell to then to the USA by force

More people need to talk about the importance of population control. Our energy problems on this planet and most of our problems are due to overpopulation. That's the main reason why India and China are perceived as emerging threats, and why the USA is an energy consumption threat to our stability as a species.
OVERPOPULATION!!!
We're worse than cockroaches.

Let me save you ten minutes. It still cost 2 dollars a barrel to produce oil. The dollar is the same rate as it was against the Pound and the Euro as last year at this time. And, OH! The world is using more oil than ever but having to pay twice as much as last year for light sweet crude.
linearnonlinear 3 years ago
the dollar is down against them. supply and demand would account for that. the first staement is bullshit. it costs a ton more than two bucks a barrel to produce, distribute, refine, etc etc etc....such simplicity in media is the problem with the issue
battim 3 years ago
The average 2008 monthly Euro rate has stayed a constant 0.769 to 0.687 same as last year and Sterlings 2008 average has also remained constant the past year from 0.510 to 0.482 Those that would have you believe the Dollar has taken a nose dive, simply not true. And it still costs 2 dollars a barrel to pump oil out of the ground. Unless it is non light crude such as the Allegeny range or the much talked about Shale oil deposits in the West where high pressue steam is used.

batttim, luv this new piece as well the rest of the collection. Luv to hear from you. thanks.

Great post, I'm not always keeping up on it when I should and I found this very interesting. Well done.
sillysillytom 3 years ago
You did a great job explaining the situation -it's quite the mess. The one thing about China and their profits though, is that they are investing in Africa where large oil areas have been discovered. The Chinese are clever about this because they go in as humanitarians and provide safety for these countries, but with the movation of getting at the oild reserves there. I just think it's time to get off oil - and we're screwed until the auto industry realizes this.
JSB1882 3 years ago
they certainly are. they are also trying to buy interests in australian resource companies as well. america claims their military escapades are based in democracy and freedom blah blah blhah. same shit, different oil field.
battim 3 years ago
Exactly... if we are in the business of freedom and democracy then why are we not doing more for the poor people of Africa? Sure we throw them a bone now and again... but we will never invest in really helping them with infrastructure and the like... because, they don't have anything we want.
multuminparvo 3 years ago
SEC chairman Arthur Levitt has often said, "The best time to fix the roof is when the sun is shining." We are going to have to find a new way and soon; I read in Time the other day that they are working on Biofuel originating from algae... you would THINK the government would be jumping through hoops to try and fund this kind of research... but that would allow more people to live "off the grid" and the government does not really want that. Less control to be had by them.
multuminparvo 3 years ago
and.....the government make more on oil than oil companies do. i always laugh when governement folks bithch about the price of oil when they benefit.
battim 3 years ago
we have more oil in alaska and off the gulf cost then the arabs have, thats a fact, but the higher ups wont allow us to get it.. the chinnese are going to try to tap in to the gulf oil from behind cuba or some place over there by drilling sideways... this is all true..im not making this up lol
iseehaters 3 years ago
we have some oil, but not even close to what the arabs have. according to most estimates the saudi's have ten times the USA has. if you are including canada the estimates jump drastically. the USA ranks a paltry 12th. thats a fact.
battim 3 years ago
I've heard Canada is tapping into our oil as well. Wished I knew the truth, it seems there is so much dis-information out there.
sillysillytom 3 years ago
Canada tapping into our oil? Huh? Canada is our TOP supplier of oil and has been for a mighty long time. You're right though, lots and lots of disinformation out there when it comes to the oil industry. Canada isn't tapping into our oil, they supply us with oil - more than any other country on our list of suppliers. There, now ya know the truth! :-)
Michelle5451 3 years ago
Thanks Michelle5451. It was just yesterday while I was talking to someone about how Newt G wants us to drill now they responded with some rant about how C is drilling down into our supplies ha ha... I flippantly repeated it... thanks so much for the TRUTH!
sillysillytom 3 years ago
Well you can inform that person who went on that rant that they are totally ignorant. Canada supplies us with more oil than Saudi Arabia (our second largest supplier). In fact, show them this - replace the (dot) with actually dots/periods

Hm... as for China and those other Asian countries, I don't have much to say about them till I do a little research but as for the U.S. and Russia and other countries, they probably wont be affected by anything until we hit "Peak Oil". We're not even close to that yet, I forget the report that I read about it in, I can't find it anywhere but I hope I'm not too far off. Lemme start another comment too because I'm almost outta characters here haha.
ArmyIssu3dWife 3 years ago
Okay, but if Russia does try to do a choke hold on it's oil, I really don't think P.M. Putin would even allow it. He's trying his best to be friendly all over the world and if anything he'll try his best to become a very strong ally with China by lending them a very eager helping hand if they have a problem with their oil supplies.
Just my little 2cents. =) Hope it was fruitful and not just garbage like a few comments on here...

battim 3 years ago
thats the fault with every capitalistic system though, there's no failsafe for the poor once they lose their cash on the system unless there are some socialist aspects to the government
ArmyIssu3dWife 3 years ago
it doesnt make him any less corrupt. he is so far in the russian mafia's pockets its not funny.
battim 3 years ago
for as bad as people portrayed him to be, and he did kill a lot of people but a lot of those politicans he killed were disgustingly corrupt to begin with and were eating that country alive from the inside. the country is rich in real-estate, and that's going under in a black market sceme which is crashing their markets. And he just demoted himself to Prime Minister, he still makes most of the executive decisions .... he pulled that country from the garbage and is turning it into gold
ArmyIssu3dWife 3 years ago
killing anyone for policitcal gain smells. and he killed and imprisoned journalists that were pro democracy too. he did not demote himself...he had term limits. aas for still making those decisions, it apparent that he is not, there is already conflict. he is corrupt. oil and wheat are making it gold, not him. the oil ministers are brilliant there. putin just lined his pockets with cash. its that simple. he is no less czarist than any russian leader.
battim 3 years ago
lest we not forget he wasa kgb agent whose job was to kill for the kremlin, of did you miss that part of his bio?
battim 3 years ago
haha i never missed that part of his bio at all... i have a friend who's from st petersburg and said that "if you were an adult male during the soviet union days, you were kgb if you were smart and wanted to be rich."
that's like pointing out that one of our candidates for the election was in the army... (okay, kgb was more intel and assasine like, but its the closest analogy i can think of)...
ArmyIssu3dWife 3 years ago
so its ok to be an evil asshole as long as its for profit? hmmm, guess thats where he learned it.
battim 3 years ago
his job was to kill. you make it sound like he was mopping floors are doing radar. lol.
battim 3 years ago
ack had a silly comment exceeded thing to fill out and lost my last post. Look at the years he was KGB, and he was only a mid-level agent because of his hometown being st.petersburg he didn't want to stand out and get executed (cold war times) so it's not like he even got to be that high of an agent.
what i'm trying to get at is, politicans are all the same around the world, and Putin isn't special because of it... but he did pull that country up off of its knees and kick started it
ArmyIssu3dWife 3 years ago
my point is, he didn't do any of that. the oil ministers that were there before did that. the only thing he has done is pocketed profit they worked for. politician take credit for things they have nothing to do with. he had little to do with it. and what do you think midlevel kgb agents did? lol. thugs.
battim 3 years ago
you keep saying that but add nothingto the conversation. kind of moronic. again what is your forecast and why? make a video and explain your forecast...specific points otherwise you look not so bright.
battim 3 years ago
its actually something that many countries have poured a ton of moeny in researching. not such a dumb idea at all. google it i think you'd be surprised.
battim 3 years ago
where did i say i supprt anything? the thieves are your governement.
battim 3 years ago
that was a poor train of thought. the basis for you thinking is flawed. you discount some basic control factors regarding the geopolitical structure and even climate. you also fail to factor how war amongst countries will impact this.
KiheiLawyer 3 years ago
the poor train of thought is on your part. unpredictable events such as climate catastrophes and war are unpredictable. let me explain what that means. impossible to predict, therefore impossible to forecast. lol. just liek in science you can't factor in events that are impossible to know. that being said how will that affect supply and demand factors on food and oil, it will simply raise the demand on them, therefore russia andd the kingdom still win. net exporters.
battim 3 years ago
history tells us that war is not unpredictable. in difficult economic times, wars happen for natural resoures. this WILL happen again. re clinate, Russia is in a extremely cold climate. they can only produce SO much grains and food given their limited growth season and adequate growing area. do you really think China would not invade Russia to get some of these resources? do you really think the world is just going to let Russia take all the oil under the North Pole without a fight?
KiheiLawyer 3 years ago
then predict the next war for us...lol. you miss the point, these are what forecasters call unpredictable events. you apparently don't get that. Russia is huge, sir. Alot of it is in temperate climate and there "bread basket" is the second largest producers of grain in the world (consistently). do you think russia would sit idly by with an arsenal of missiles and an air force second only, maybe, to the US? lol. they could sink china's oil region in five days.
battim 3 years ago
its not about the oil in the north pole, without that russia has the fourth largest reserves in the world. this vlog is about the next decade. please listen. it would take 15-20 years to get the arctic oil on tap if they started TODAY. your train of thought is based on not listening to what the vlog is about.the next decade, not 40 years in the future.by the way, war is not predictable and neither is the outcome of said war. history shows us that.stratfor, economists, etc disagree with you.
battim 3 years ago
i am one of those economists and i do not disagree with myself. LOL, if you don't think war is predictable, this conversation cannot continue. Go do your homework student, before you tell the teacher he is wrong, lololololololol.
KiheiLawyer 3 years ago
wel, again, the vlog was about geopolitical influence and certainly you can't deny the econmoic growth of russia and saudi arabia. my homewrok is done, your straw man tactics certainly show how silly your ideas are, because you can'ttalk about points. I'm forty, son. again please predict the next war genius.
battim 3 years ago
Alexander Chizhevsky in Russia and Raymond Wheeler in America made studies of the history of war, analyzing all known battles over a 2500 year period. Edward Dewey of the Foundation for the Study of cycles. Their conclusions have been supported by many well known researchers. War IS predicatble. It is based upon factors including drought, climate change, and the need for both food stuffs and natural resoources used at that time in history.
KiheiLawyer 3 years ago
ok then, predict it for us. lol. and economists don't forecast based on silly notions of historical theory. they did there research in hindsight and have been strongly criticized. you make it seem as if your point of view is the only one...and which is it, are you a lawyer or an economist and do you make up your profession depending on the conversation? did they have nukes 2500 years ago? certainly not. you have'nt addressed one issue
battim 3 years ago
OK, OK, OK mastermind...i rewatched you video and you state that Russia is a BIG WINNER becuase they are well funded and technically advanced in the areas of food????? Man oh man, you are shitting on my parade and you haven't even gotten this one correct. They do NOT have a well advanced food ANYTHING. IF they have food, it is poor. After 4:23 I will speak on your other losey thoughts.
KiheiLawyer 3 years ago
yes. they have become much more efficinet in ther farming techniques. they are well funded, you said yourself multinational companies are investing in that infrastructure. know it all attitudes, such as yours, blind you to the reality of how things are going. and the point of the vlog was about wealth and geopolitical influence. oil being the center of that. russia is a net exporter of food.
battim 3 years ago
you do know that russia is spending billions modernizing their farms, right? putin laid it out as such... 1. increase gross output, especially of grain, through increasing the area under cultivation, as well as yields;
2. technological re-equipping of agriculture and the food-processing industry, using innovative land and technology leasing schemes and long-term credit 3. achieve price stability, especially for motor lubricants and fertilizer, using "anti-monopoly regulation and subsidies"
battim 3 years ago
4. better risk management and agriculture sector insurance 5. constant monitoring of the food products markets, "and if prices exceed established limits, there should be automatic measures, and I mean purchasing interventions, and regulation using import and export tariffs.
that wasa copy and paste of translated russian agricultural policy going into 2008.
battim 3 years ago
do you mean the sunspot equals war theory? surely you jest, correlation is not causation.
battim 3 years ago
no, of course not, some have used real research to support wacky theories. anyway, i am an attorney and a macro economist (it is possible to be both you know). i also own other businesses too! regardless, I told you i like you very much, but your theories in your video leave out SOOO many factors of climate, unrest, etc. you speak of only the next decade, but the infrastructure isn't there now to support the russia idea in 10 years. militarily they have sold off so much just to eat.
KiheiLawyer 3 years ago
actually i spoke to unrest and global food shortages and there impact on that. regardless, how does that impact russia and the saudi's on the rise economically? the trend certain predates this vlog. its already happening. militarily russia is still THE power in East Asia. they are weakened (conflict of interests between higher officers and the executive branch to blame) but have an ease of ability to cripple the industrial triangle of china...keeping china at bay.
battim 3 years ago
Alexander Chizhevsky was a sunspot theory.
battim 3 years ago
your knowledge of military vulnerability is lacking. china is geographically ripe for the picking when it comes to war. in very little time the entire infrastructure of china could be destroyed. china agressiveness will be economic for the foreseeable future to the west and north of its borders. it has more to gain with troops in africa.
battim 3 years ago
Russia has a very bad infrastructure for the production of QULAITY food stuffs. they are the laughing stock of the world when it comes to food products. additionally, the companies that have the ability to produce the quality foods in Russia are mutli-international companies, (Dirol Cadbury, Kraft Foods, and Mars LLC). the wealth from any increase in food production would be absorbed outside russia by these companies.
KiheiLawyer 3 years ago
mostly the vlog spoke to oil. will you deny how waelthy russia is becoming from oil? lol. the vlog is called oil and geopolitics. you didn't address your claim cihna will invade russia. silliness.
battim 3 years ago
apparently you've done little research on land abandonement in russia. The rural depopulation naturally leads to the contraction of farmland. Because land that is likely to be retained under cultivation is a better match to people's actual ability to cultivate it, fewer resources are going to be wasted, and the overall efficiency of Russia's agriculture is likely to rise as a result. efficiency means profit. profit means waelth. weath means geopolitical power. add it to oil, you got a plus.
battim 3 years ago
Battim, I respect you. I like you, but you have stepped into a little deeper water than you realized I think.
KiheiLawyer 3 years ago
no sir, i think you have. you claim predictabiltiy and i am asking you to predict it.
battim 3 years ago
what was this in response to?
battim 3 years ago
Resource depletion and population pressures are a definite sign of the end of the world as we know it.Either we choose to follow the elite who manipulate the mass media and insist we hang on to our sense of power and entiltelment through war and control or we join a movement of change in how we view the future through world peace, social justice and enviromental protection.Great topic.
1liljet 3 years ago
oh if only we were the only one who practiced this, history hows every human scoeity does.
battim 3 years ago
hey angel, how are you? the problem with this technology that was done on a very small scale is this, it takes more energy to run the radio waves that "burn" the water than it the "burning" water makes to power the engine. in other words, net energy consumed, efficiency is negative.
battim 3 years ago
actually we were talking about, in this thread, russia's resource management. timber certainly a resource. the comments have been about lots of things, not just oil. as for your second point, well taken.
battim 3 years ago
the wide sweep of your discussion points to the fact that the world is now much more interconnected. China and India demanding more oil for their expanding economies affects the price of oil futures dramatically.
But what happens over 10-20 years depends on the development of alternative sources of energy.
I'll follow the Sun.

battim 3 years ago
I think there is a much larger game being played and we may catch a glimpse of this after the CFTC investigation.
nbwulf 3 years ago
i agree, i think OPEC is playing games with speculation.
battim 3 years ago
This is good for several reasons. I have a diesel truck to pull a 5th wheel. So I look at sucking diesel fuel. It worries me, but food prices are up. Other countries which need food, doctors, we are all tied together, Russia/China, but we choose not to think of it in our small world. I am sorry if I went on a tangent. Your words make me think. Exports of oil and FOOD, medications, people caught in the middle, where does it leave them? So it leaves us to war?
RiverBirch1967 3 years ago
well, i dont' know if it has to lead US to war, but food pries are already causing insurrections in egypt, thailand, haiti and kenya. we'll see.
battim 3 years ago
Places with oil are no more at peace, Darfur, Sudan most obviously. South Africa, far more "developed" is struggling to accept Nigerians...If there is a line in the sand people will fight over it.

And it is a reminder to some, as it was to me (because of media slant) that America is still much more than just a "formidable" exporter.
johnreagannumber1 3 years ago
american is still per capita the most productive country in the world.
battim 3 years ago
Concise comments to come, but I wanted to say that your point on the rise of developing nations and the connection with cars and electricity/food consumption in those nations is a great fact to demonstrate part of the rise in oil/food prices.
johnreagannumber1 3 years ago
part of the rise, speculation and reserve hoarding is part of it too.
battim 3 years ago
well an event could change the discussion (an event meaning a breakthrough). as for combustibles, algae oil seems to have a lot of upsides. nuclear energy is being expanded all over the world. it should be an interesting decade, but oil will still be king for a bit.
battim 3 years ago
The US is spending like a crack addict who is given money by a loving parent to try and "get their life together." Sadly that money is only used to buy more crack rather than a one way trip to rehab. It costs more to get the milk from the cow to the store thus we are all facing personal economic hardships that I fear we have not yet seen the worst of.
missdivinestalls 3 years ago
yeah i saw a vlog using that metaphor today, too bad its faulty. its much more complex than that. industrial powers have to consume. but certainly one can't complain about the tandard of living in the states.
battim 3 years ago
Yes and no IMO. While we have a ton of problems and bloon on this administrations hands, at least we aren't China/Burma/Afghanistan/Iraq/insert screwed over country here.
phunbee 3 years ago
things are not that simple, nothing is. simplifying things to simple metahpors is "Sexy" but faulty. geopolitics is so complicated. americans have it pretty fucking good. americans are simply not crack heads and the USA is no crackhouse. the metaphor raises eyebrows but make no sense, really.
battim 3 years ago
well there are other ways to make electiricity. coal, nuclear, etc. we;d have to revamp our entire energy plan dramatically. as for hybrids, they use less gasoline per unit of travel. still uses gasoline, but its more efficient with combustible energy.
battim 3 years ago
well at least the end of the power structure.
battim 3 years ago

NormanBatt 3 years ago
who is a dumb mother fucker? lol. simply starting your comment with that phrase implies your limited intellect. is it the oil barons (who have been begging to drill it) or environmental groups preventing. public record begs to differ with you. i am not religious at all (what gave you that idea?) that being said, my vlog wasn't about american oil at all, did you watch it?

In my new job we actually talked about what countries are ok, and which ones aren't, and America is definately in the lower catagory with China... it's kinda scary really. I have been told hybrids aren't much better because we are using electricity (IE fossil Fuels) I think it is strange why so many women come to America to get married, I never realized how much so until I moved with a Russian, but he and I talk alot about the economy in Russia, and it is getting better. PS nice hair Tim
oliviapeachcom 3 years ago
hair is getting chopped soon...russia will continue to do well, population growth of zero and amasing wealth. the USA is by far not near the bottom, we still have vast resources and a GNP 3 times that of the next closest producer.

big oil is going down..lol the shit is affecting my gold and silver bullion..lol I like high oil :)
markapsolon 3 years ago
well going down is a bit of a sretch, but they aren't the powerhouse they once were, for certain.
battim 3 years ago
Oil is not going to be a problem in 20 years. technology is advancing everyday. For instance a air car that looks really promising will be on the market this summer. they will probably combine that technology with fuel cell and electric cars over the next decade creating the ultimate hybrid.
Second Brazil just discovered they're sitting on a ton of oil more than the oil states have.
worrying over Oil is a waste of time.
JUDASismyHERO 3 years ago
Also we should be worrying about our education system and economy. We need to improve greatly in those areas if we plan to keep up. Oil is the least of our problems.
We waste so much money and need to get our priorities straight.
JUDASismyHERO 3 years ago
well, if by system you mean parent giving a shit about their kids learning to read and write and think inventively, yes, i agree. the education system ain't broken, the folks who are supposed to make sure there kids are learning are broken in the head.
battim 3 years ago
well my vlog is about the next decade or so. and as russia, the Kingdom and others amass wealth from oil, they will begin have more geopolitical influence, that is, regional influence. thats what the vlog was about. cars are but a fraction of the problem. i don't think people realize how much we do with oil besides feed our cars.
battim 3 years ago
brazil is sitting on some oil that isn't easy to get to (and it seems it is sulphur ridden and tough to process). the state have ton of oil they capped or havent even touched. see montanan oil, canadain sands and east florida gulf oil.

Although Canadians see no benifit to that since all the oil is controlled by private companies.
jmitchell2599 3 years ago
the USA indeed gets the bulk of our oil domestically, from canada, the Kingdom, mexico, venezual and nigeria. the middle east fuels asia, who give the USA cheap consumables. canadians see a HUGE tax windfall from energy companies and gasoline retail taxes. in fact, if the USA is an example, the government makes more off of oil then oil companies do.
battim 3 years ago
Hmmm..i'm still abit confused as to why the oil prices shot up. This might sound dumb, but, if the US controls the Iraqi oil, which is the largest supply of oil remaining (Saudi Arabia hasn't got much left), why would oil prices shoot up? Couldnt they increase output for the demand? Or is it that they purposely restrict the output to drive up costs? I'm probably way off base here...
123UnitedWeStand123 3 years ago
oil prices. production has hit levels that most countrie are comfortable with outputting. demand is up on a stagnant supply. speculation is a bit rampant in futures. i think we could see a pull back on prices but the days of 2.00 gasoline is way gone, i think.
battim 3 years ago
by the way, the saudi's are awash in oil. they have the largest production capacity and largest reserves in the world. not to mention they have good oil, the light sweet kind. the US does not control iraqi oil and iraq is not the largest oil reserves in the world. canada and saudis (by almost double). iran and iraq are neck and neck at third.
battim 3 years ago
Don't you think America could force the House of Saud to produce what ever amount of oil we told it too if we felt it was in our interests?
J1Goro 3 years ago
not really. there are mechanical limitations. chavez is learning this in venezuala. chavez lost most of his good engineers to either firing them or imprisoning them or to foreign oil companies who paid them more, hence they can't build anything new or fix what they have, hence less porduction. in order for saudi arabia to bump production much more, they'd need more mechanical capacity, they are close to peaking.

Sabrnig 3 years ago
or be more creative with resources available to us. coal, nuclear, wind, solar, alternative combustibles, battery technology, etc etc...
battim 3 years ago
Why is it when people intelligently or angrily discuss various methods for reducing our dependency on oil and express worry about the future of the planet and the human race, I never hear anyone tossing into the ring the suggestion of slowing down the population of the world. Anyone ever consider that the biggest problem depleting resources (fuel, oil, food, etc.) just might be over population and perhaps we oughta address that also?
Michelle5451 3 years ago
Humans do not understand exponential growth and we should, beyond the save the polar bear environmental whining there are mathematical facts that explain what is happening. More minds are better for solving problems yes, yes you need enough children to care for elderly (or build robots), no humans can't agree philosophically on the issue. Look at the families in China who lost only children- there is no answer save make more types of birth control available, and free.
Sabrnig 3 years ago
japan and china are working on robotic nursing units. culturally birth control is not yet viable because of theological and cultural belief systems. how do we overcome that?
battim 3 years ago
I'm not a fan of expecting the government to correct all that ails humanity. I am a huge fan of being personally accountable and when I say we need to address the population problem, I don't mean what can the government do about it, I mean what choices can we make as indivuals to address it? Do couples really need 3, 4, 5 or more kids? I believe the biggest contribution an individual can make to ensure the future of the earth's resources and humanity it to make a decision to limit themselves.
Michelle5451 3 years ago
michelle, its cultural. systemically in societies where populations are growing, we have cultural issues and reeducation, literally reprogramming to do. in most developed countries you see negative to zero population growth. its immigration that causes most population spikes in the developed world (illegal and legal). we need to get the third world to start thinking ahead, not behind.
battim 3 years ago
Good idea, how do you propose going about though? Most of the population increase is coming from poor 3rd world countries....maybe ship them lots of free condoms?
tehkao 3 years ago
i don't propose a damn thing. i'm not even sure its possible to reprogram this stone age mentality.
battim 3 years ago
Hey tehkao - I actually have many thoughts on the matter, but it would take way too long to type. So, I'll simply address your condom suggestion - I highly doubt that would work considering they've already been introduced to condoms (particularly Africa) to help stop the spread of AIDS, to save their own lives...and that seemingly hasn't gone very far. The answer is there, we just need to start talking about it - the earth is full.
Michelle5451 3 years ago
tribal leaders call western ways "voodoo" it so complicated. also when 8 of your ten kids are gona be dead by 12, you tend to have a lot of kids. its sooooo complicated.
battim 3 years ago
I know it's complicated, but that doesn't mean we can't start to address it. I'm more concerned about the over population of the developed world. I saw a woman on the subway yesterday - had three kids all under five and was about 8 months pregnant. Personal responsibility for ensuring the future of the human race lies with limiting the number of people we continue to put on this earth, not having kid after kid after kid.
Michelle5451 3 years ago
i agree in so many ways. we'd rather talk about polar bears though. sad state of affairs.
battim 3 years ago
Well, that's how it usually goes, when something rises something else goes to another direction. Anyhow, the heating system of my house gets its energy from the sunlight. That system was expensive, but by the time it gets cheaper than a system that uses oil. Besides, this system doesn't pollute that much.
The future is not in oil, but in some less polluting (and not too costy) way to produce the energy. That way may come from - who knows where! The one who invents that thing, will get rich.
LadyDiWolfe 3 years ago
heating systems like that will be the standard in the next generation of homes. alreayd seeing it all over the world. the immediate future is in oil, and that what the vlog speaks to. as for forecasting 20 years from now, i think thats tough to do. and i agree they will get rich, how are you by the way?
