Start from nothing? It's not THAT scary. I'm more than twice your age. I would love to be your age and start from nothing. And before you know it, your NEW LIFE will be filled with more REAL, TRUE, POSITIVE stuff than you ever got in 20 years with them.

I really admire you that you still give your parents a chance. I just can not believe what parents are capable to do to their children in the name of god . Why so much pain and cruelty put on a 10 year old child. I remember being teased as a poof from other children and it already hurt since at this age I did even no what gay means. For me, my feelings where just natural. Society imprints all these negative thoughts and feelings into us gays and then it takes years to get rid of them again.

What hateful, fearful parents! And they're afraid Sam's 12-year old kid brother will catch 'teh gay' from him!!! I have news for the parents: if the older son's gay, chances are higher that the younger son will be gay as well. And it's solely by chance, not choice. I the little bro is gay and they find or figure out, what is more likely than not is thay they'll become even more psychotic and sociopathic! You are loved so much, Sam, by your friends and extended family at K-State and in Manhattan. It may take your parents as long as forever to get themselves "straight" with their God...and you may not live to see their reconciliation. I hope that you do live to see your parents accept you, but (and I know you already know this) don't wait. Live your life to the fullest. I admire your Spirit and willingness to forgive.

@jazzhey94 the therapy didn't happen in America. His family was a missionary family, so it probably happened when they were in another country where homosexuality is illegal. There's nothing you can really do about that =/

@TheYamspot the therapy was done in Iowa....I know Sam pretty well and sadly this was all here in the U.S. but to see how he turned it all in to a positive is great! He now attends MIT pursuing his masters and Ph.D. in Nuclear engineering and is constantly organizing lgbt events and groups to help others like him
