Maybe "godawful" was too strong a word, but they speed up about 2 bpm* during each pre-chorus, then fall back to almost the original tempo afterward. I find it jarring.
*That's right, I used a metronome just to prove I'm not crazy. Though I may have achieved the exact opposite.
