the thing i love about this movie is that he tries everything that you would expect would end the time loop. in every other romantic comedy in which the protagonist ends up in an unexplainable, probably supernatural situation, they always get out of it when they convince someone to believe them, or kill themselves, or do something outrageous like kidnap a groundhog or get the girl, but not this movie! in this one the only way out is when he genuinely improves himself.

I think that was an earlier draft where Phil kept track of time by reading one page in a book every day in the library then eventually getting through the entire library. But if memory serves, that was dropped eventually and it was left more ambiguous.
