hey good guide but was gonna say you usually want to use the Earth Shield on the tank because not only does it heal when they take damage, but it also healing is increased on whoever is wearing the shield.
Also if I may offer a few suggestions on healing w/ the shaman. I noticed in your vid that after you popped Manatide totem that you didnt replace it with a healing stream/mana stream totem afterwards. Important to remember that manatide only last 10 secs or so and you are down a totem when it expires. Use Riptide whenever it is off of CD, much more HPM than your other heals. Use chain heal more often, very effecient if it hits even 2 people. start cast lightning bolt before your OOM.
Just curious, what was your item level at the time of the ToT run?
Couple Sugggestions/comments:
You could have included some kind of stat priority, example: haste>spirit>mastery>crit?
Party/raid buffs- When you were talking about totems you stated things like, well I use this one. Maybe metion its important to keep an eye on the buffs provided by other members in the group, since the totem buff will not stack with a similar buff.
I suggest using healing surge over Greater heal if the tank is low, due to your tidal waves proc from riptide you gain an increased chance of Crit on Healing surge. Aka Faster cast for more heal/around same mana cost.
this is pretty helpful but sometimes the over powering back ground music is louder than your voice. its hard to hear what you are saying sometimes with the epic battle music blaring in the background. Otherwise I give it 5 totems up.
ur problem with mana is you put out healing totem instead of mana totem, and u didnt spec the better shields u spec'd wpns instead. im goblin shammy and practically never run out of mana and always keep my party alive. only time someone dies is if they dont know the fights or they get to ocnfident with their pulls.

i do agree that " Healing wave " is low mana cost yes, and " greater healing wave " has high mana cost yes, and you say that " healing wave " has quick cast time, and " greater healing wave " has very long cast time, that not true, if you look closer, they both have the same cast time " 2.36 ". I play arena and rbg, so i find " healing wave " is more a situational becuz, if my partner is taking dmg and keep taking dmg, i will rather use " Greater healing wave, but agian its very situational :D
With the totems you need to pay attention to who is in the party or raid since they are superseded by other buffs, for example flametongue and arcane mages don't stack and wrath or air and moonkins don't stack. Paladins can use protection aura which doesn't stack with stoneskin and other tanks have buffs which don't stack with strength of earth.
telluric currents is a good talent, especially in raid. But it is not so helpful without elemental precision since you have healing gears and pretty low hit rating. If you don't use lightning bolt to restore mana that much, you can put the talent points to Ancestral Swiftness. It is might be one of the best talent for a lot of raid combats.

I would've talked more about the totems. For instance if you have a Mage they have arcane brilliance so you don't need to use flametongue totem, moonkin aura and spriest means non wrath of air totem. And you didn't keep an eye on your totems in that boss fight, your watertotem got destroyed.

Good video, very informative and excited to get my shaman up to 85. The only problem with the video is the demonstration. Its not good when you show a wipe, and on such an easy boss in a cata heroic. Also from what i have seen from guildies or in general, the best thing about shamans are that they are mana batteries and always have plenty of mana, that demonstration made me worry a little. Also you should do a warlock guide or something, my main is also a lock.
1) It increases spellpower. I'll let you figure that one out.
2) Astral Recall is your hearth. It doesn't matter, as it's minor.
3) Int > Spirit > Mastery => Haste. Depends on personal preference.
4) Heal at all times, if everyone is topped off get in some Lightning Bolt action. Personally I find the mana take back from that isn't worth it when raiding, and you hardly ever will have time for it. Just my opinion though.

Just rolled a resto shaman and found this vid really helpful, there really isnt enough good healing guides out there. Especially loved how confidently informative the vid was up until you put it all into practice lol very funny, thumbs up!
You also never used healing rain which after riptide is the shamans most powerful heal for a party since it does equivalent to a greater heal on every party member and you can heal at the same time plus crits put on ancestral fortitude which reduces damage and it is almost guaranteed with healing rain.
No interrupts, no hex on the adds and poor crit rating all equal a lot of dead party members. Plus with high crit you recover mana almost as fast as you use it and get a lot more from telluric currents.

liked the vid man, even though the fight was a fail, some maybe like why show a fail, i say ehh who cares, not every fight gonna go smooth. And it shows more info then a smooth fight in my opinion, cause it allows us and yo to see what could be done better in the future. so no worries mate.
and a ton of people stack mastery, including the best North America resto shaman. (vodka's) The choice comes down to haste vs mastery for what you want to stack. Looking a top parses, you'll see a somewhat even mix of both. The one constant you don't really see is anyone stacking crit.
Not to take Ancestral Swiftness is a grave mistake. Also, in raids, cleansing waters isn't that important, and if your not assigned to dispels, totally worthless. And for those that asked, stat priority is if your having mana trouble Int>Spirit>Crit>Haste>Mastery. After that it's Int>Crit>haste>Spirit>Mastery. Your mastery isn't that great except on fights like Chimeron. Personally, unless we're sucking, no one is ever low enough, long enough, so the mastery is meh.

@Jynus13 The problem with Mastery is this - it affects the exact same healing issue as crit (throughput) with only a modest increase in value, even at optimal performance levels (e.g. when the target is at extremely low health.) If you take a look at this chart, you'll see that even when the target is at 1% health and you with a 99% crit chance, Mastery provides only 1.58% more healing throughput against the same budget of crit - and that's the best-case scenario. -EJ again
Glyph of Water Shield > Glyph of Riptide.. always. Major Glyphs - Chain Heal, Healing Wave, Healing Stream Totem. That setup provides the maximum about of throughput and survival to your raid.
And TGN, find a new Shaman.. This guy is awful. Granted, the group wasn't that great. Still bad.
@MatsumotoKael13 Actually, Totemic Focus and Telluric Currents are both bad talents compared to Ancestral Swiftness. And.. I actually can't think of a single raid encounter where you could possibly be, without doing it on purpose, more than 40 yds away from another healer; thus, Totemic Focus is useless. Telluric Currents has SOME value, but if you're having mana troubles to the point of needing it, either the other healers are bad, you're bad, or your dps should stop standing in the fire.
Just some friendly advice from one shaman to another. Know your facts and your class. I stopped when you started picking your talents...i just felt you had absolutely no idea what you were talking about and very un-sure about yourself. Theres a lot more reference as to why you would pick a talent...especially something like totemic focus...which is a VERY good talent to have, as well as ancestral resolve :- /
We are also applying a hotfix for Purification for the Restoration shaman passive from 10% to 25%. We think that shaman healing per second is not as competitive with other healers and while we hoped to bring down Holy priest and Holy paladins (in particular).
@JDaragas Nerf? GHW and Chain Heal are much more effective, and let's not forget our mastery has a 0.5% buff which may not seem like much but it really adds up.

i do have a few questions about the video though
1) does the spell power boost from you flame tongue totem increase healing?
2) what does astral recall do? Is it worth getting the glyph over one of the reagent ones?
3) how should i build my characters stats? (ex aim for 3 parts int, 2 parts spirit and 1 part mastery)
4) should i ever consider using lightning bolt during combat or should i focus completely on healing?

No interrupts, no hex on the adds and poor crit rating all equal a lot of dead party members. Plus with high crit you recover mana almost as fast as you use it and get a lot more from telluric currents.

dude ur healing all wrong u don't spam healing surge and greater heal lol, They fixed it were u cant u should be spamming lesser heals always keep hots up for the crit cast time etc , keep riptide on three targets if u got glyph and cast chain heal, but the way u do it, ur gonna oom to fast.

and a ton of people stack mastery, including the best North America resto shaman. (vodka's) The choice comes down to haste vs mastery for what you want to stack. Looking a top parses, you'll see a somewhat even mix of both. The one constant you don't really see is anyone stacking crit.

ah yes, you're quoting from the EJ guide and posts that were from before cata was released.
mastery much > crit now. 2k mastery == 4k crit at 50% hp for example. and AH is useless, only blocks physical damage, raid is magical.
crit is our worst stat, this is the constant amongst every resto guide currently. EJ, Jynus' guide (mine), LIG5, MMO champion.

Not to take Ancestral Swiftness is a grave mistake. Also, in raids, cleansing waters isn't that important, and if your not assigned to dispels, totally worthless. And for those that asked, stat priority is if your having mana trouble Int>Spirit>Crit>Haste>Mastery. After that it's Int>Crit>haste>Spirit>Mastery. Your mastery isn't that great except on fights like Chimeron. Personally, unless we're sucking, no one is ever low enough, long enough, so the mastery is meh.

@Jynus13 The problem with Mastery is this - it affects the exact same healing issue as crit (throughput) with only a modest increase in value, even at optimal performance levels (e.g. when the target is at extremely low health.) If you take a look at this chart, you'll see that even when the target is at 1% health and you with a 99% crit chance, Mastery provides only 1.58% more healing throughput against the same budget of crit - and that's the best-case scenario. -EJ again

Glyph of Water Shield > Glyph of Riptide.. always. Major Glyphs - Chain Heal, Healing Wave, Healing Stream Totem. That setup provides the maximum about of throughput and survival to your raid.
And TGN, find a new Shaman.. This guy is awful. Granted, the group wasn't that great. Still bad.

Actually there is another class that heals when it dispels. Priests can glyph their dispel magic to do that.
Also, Your music is louder than your speech for the better part of the movie. Given, the song is epic, but it doesn't suit what you're doing.
HOW can you not know which addons you're using? That's just embarrassing. Didn't you do ANY preparation?
The reason we take totemic focus is because it affects Mana Tide Totem.

@MatsumotoKael13 Actually, Totemic Focus and Telluric Currents are both bad talents compared to Ancestral Swiftness. And.. I actually can't think of a single raid encounter where you could possibly be, without doing it on purpose, more than 40 yds away from another healer; thus, Totemic Focus is useless. Telluric Currents has SOME value, but if you're having mana troubles to the point of needing it, either the other healers are bad, you're bad, or your dps should stop standing in the fire.

I stopped when you started picking your talents...i just felt you had absolutely no idea what you were talking about and very un-sure about yourself. Theres a lot more reference as to why you would pick a talent...especially something like totemic focus...which is a VERY good talent to have, as well as ancestral resolve :- /

We are also applying a hotfix for Purification for the Restoration shaman passive from 10% to 25%. We think that shaman healing per second is not as competitive with other healers and while we hoped to bring down Holy priest and Holy paladins (in particular).

Towlie is a great example. Excellent player but we dont need to hear about how good he is. This one however doesnt know what he is talking about and cant even edit correctly.
