No doubt about it, the Chinese team were were the hardest competitors, but the USA still came home with some winners.
Every year, they push the limits to the edge harder and harder, it amazes me all the time. It also frightens me sometimes, because some exceed their limit from pushing too hard, and wind up paying a terrible price.
I've seen a number of tragic accidents. It's a very exciting sport, but there's also a lot of physical risk.
OMG, love it! :D These girls worked so unbelievably hard, congratulations to them. :D
Even if they were underage, they still deserved to win. If evidence does show up proving they are underage, the athletes are not the ones who should be punished. Just my opinion...
I care about their age. Olympic games is competition for adults. There are diff. junior competition for children. And I mentioned their age not because I think that it's not fair that they were the winners. These girls were rightfully the best. But, you know, once I watched an interview with Nemov and he told that he does not approve when coaches put such young gymnasts to big competitions because kids are not able to estimate the danger and risks. Injury rate for gymnasts in China is very high.
For me, the main problem is not really the fact that they are so young and competing at a high level, but the fact that they had an unfair advantage over the other teams - for instance, the US could have peaked Bross and Wieber for Beijing and might have won the team title that way, plus potentially other medals as well. The Chinese gymnasts (along with Liukin) are my favourites, but I do not at all approve of the fact that they faked the ages of most of the gymnasts to get this advantage.
Nadia Comaneci won her first gold medal at 14, and supposedly the real age of the chinese girls are 14. I don't see how they're much more differen than Nadia?
Why so defensive? Did I write something bad about these girls? But media in my country mentioned possible 12 (twelve!) years. And looking at some of those girls I can easily believe it. Either way, AFTER Olympics all I can say is "Well done". But if they (or any other team from any other country) were caught BEFORE Olympics because of age matter I would say that girls need to wait and trainers and officials should be punished. Also I agree with KajaRG about unfair advantage.
I also heard that the possible age of these gymnasts could be around 12. But these girls train and work SO hard every day, that their growing mostly goes to their muscles, and therefor, they are only barely 5 feet tall. Also, asians, particularly Chinese, tend to be smaller and shorter than your average American or European. The Chinese eat foods that are lower in fat, while the Americans mostly eat foods that have more calories. You can thumbs down me all you want; this is my opinion
@chingvang559 Note that I said "Also, asians, particularly Chinese, tend to be smaller and shorter than your average American or European." I have my facts straight thank you very much. :D
In 1976 the age limit was only 14 years. The FIG later raised it to 15, then 16. Nadia wasn't age ineligible when she competed, these Chinese gymnasts most probably were/are.
@chingvang559 - no, in gymnastics younger people usually have quite a big advantage. They are shorter, more flexible, they often aren't afraid to break their necks in a cases when any sane older athlete would, etc. Actually, imo, in gymnastics it's easier to admire when an athlete over 25 wins, especially if he/she is tall. But, of course, it's also very inspiring when such young girls show such an astonishing performance as they did in video above.
nice one!!:)

They are amazing. But when I look at them I feel doubts about their age.
Lalaif 2 years ago
Who cares about their age? There shouldn't be an age limit on how amazing these girls are.
I admire them, if they are younger than I am and can perform this. I can tell you now I can't do ANY of this and I probably couldn't if I were 16.
Wonderful montage Kaja! The music is familiar, was it used in an RSG routine before?
iheartrg11 2 years ago
what does RSG stand for?
JadeB6525 2 years ago
It stands for Rhythmic Gymnastics. However the short hand is taken from the french name- Rythmique Sportive Gymnastique

Young defeats the old? Sounds like the young are at a disadvantage I say, but they still defeat the old
