Conan is too big of a "star" to do this now. That was the great thing about Late Night. Everybody knew him but the show always had a sense that he was under the radar. Now he knows how popular he actually is. After the whole Tonight Show debacle, he has become too much of a "celebrity" and just overall acts differently. Not saying its a bad thing, just something that seems true. I feel like Conan isn't as able to not hog the spotlight as he used to be. He's almost a caricature of this guy now.
Been a huge Springsteen years, and have never seen this video. Thanks for posting this, it shows a little glimpse of what someone can expect at a Springsteen concert. Just awesome, and fun.
Always a great rendition...and if you don't think this may become our National Anthem for Wall Street...come visit my featured channel offering. Cordially, John
This was on Conan's show years ago. It was GREAT--lots of artists showed up for this. Jimmy Fallon jumping in and playing the spoons was hilarious! I've been looking for this clip for YEARS! Thanks for posting.
@beitarist20 It wasn't a special. Springsteen had borrowed La Bamba and Pender from the Max Weinberg 7 for his Seeger Sessions sideline project, so he brought the Seeger Sessions Band onto the show as a way of saying thank you. Similar to when he'd turn up every so often for a sing-a-long when he was running away with Max on world tours.
I actually saw this when it was on TV. I've been looking for the video ever since. GREAT GREAT music. Max and his band (of course he is the drummer for the "E-Street band and Springstien). So So much talent on one stage..... Conan not too shabby on the gutair.....
I am a HUGE BOSS fan. I grew up listening to his music and thinking that it described my life perfectly.
Then I paid $125 to attend a concert only to hear him w/ nothing but a guitar as he went on one political diatribe after another about how bad Bush and war are.
(Really? War is bad? I had no idea, having served in combat only twice.)
From now on I'll just make sure the event is Bruce AND THE E-STREET BAND.
@ChuckSnow5 Seriously, we were LOCKED into the Fleet Center in Boston and ALL concessions were stopped 15 minutes before the show. (Bruce's orders according to the concession people.)
Honestly, after 45 minutes I felt like I was at a Nuremburg Rally if it were organised and funded by American Democrats.
Going to have to find the tabs to this. If O'Brien can play it with maybe two chords, so can I. I don't get Fallon with the spoons... with the full E-St. Band if full howl, nobody can hear him no matter how amped. I wonder if you could stick a magnetic pickup on spoons?
For my money this is the finest musical moment in the history of Conan O'Brien's late-night show. What a collection of talent on one stage, and what a tribute to the living legend Pete Seeger.
Very disappointed that I didn't get to see Bruce and the Sessions Band. Terrific music!
