  • Please help autism family with Christmas 5133659997

  • Hmm i didnt know aspergers syndrome manifests itself in this way.

  • well, at lest he's staying out of trouble.

  • my step son who is 14 was recently diagnosed with a mild form of Aspergers. He will get overly excited with video games or computer chat and clenches his hands in front of him and shakes them. Jumps up and down. Says he doesn't realize he is doing it.

  • @naturegirlfromny My 7yo does the same. Watching any movie I always know when he will pop up and start jumping up and down because of a good feeling part in the movie.

  • @somotastic21 There's nothing "wrong" with him. He has Aspergers Syndrome. :)

  • @jrnycrash my son is 4 with this disease it's a bit much i am chronically sick myself very ill but what do you do to calm Christopher down & how do you get nap time from him ? mine won't take naps and he jumps all day and does the flapping hands arm thingy I have tried gluten free food but it seems as time goes by he gets more active and worse . help I have even tried peppermint tea & chamomile I live in Ft. Myers Florida & it's difficult for doctors to admit this is what kids have but we know.

  • @NAVYWIFEONE make it a rule or a part of the schedule

  • Doesn't seem to me like there's anything wrong with him

  • My aspie son does nearly the same thing. he would use his fingers but i have been providing him with paint rollers , 3 prong sprinklers, toy helicopter, ect to make it look more normal to his fellow students, Have you ever been told why they seem obsessed with spirals? I've seen the spiral drawings since he picked up his first crayon and in sketches ever since. What is that?

  • @lisacmeier Christopher loves spinning things. He has a helicopter too, and a toy with gears....even has the guts out of a really old clock, with LOTS of spinning gears and things! I am not really sure why Aspies seem to like spirals. I think it's just a stimming or calming activity to focus the mind? Not really sure. I've asked Christopher before and he just says "cuz I like it" LOL

  • @jrnycrash When I was younger I was obessed with spiral things, tubes and object's shapes. I think that's why it was easier for my doctor to realize I had Asperger.

  • Wow...and if your son is anything like my son,I bet he can do things like that for close to an hour? Am I correct,LOL?

  • @mykidissuper You are correct!! :)

  • thats actually called stimming i do it too

  • geez, its like im looking at a real-time version of myself when i was 6 except without the glasses O.o ironically i now wear glasses (have em on right now)

  • @cabot2jville2010 Cabot, I've seen you dropped a lots of comments in the "Human evolution" movie. I just arbitrarily come over just this Asperger's video, haha. I guess we're in the same boat: We both like evolution and have Asperger's. :D

  • @Stinukli hahaha nice, and yeah that video always has some interesting discussions if you could them that goin on.

  • Sherwood, Maryland??

  • @nickygat23 No I live in oregon. The name of the school is Sherwood Elementary. The section of town is called Sherwood Heights, for whatever reason. LOL Not really sure of the history.

  • Sherwood, Maryland??

  • Aww, he's beautiful. This video made me smile.

  • @KyrielleBlue Your comment made me smile :)

  • Is he doing ABA? Is there any program in place to teach him social skills? I ask as a fellow Aspie.

  • @TheTravelfool He has a wonderful counselor/therapist that he see's several times a month to work on social skills. It has really helped him :)

  • @jrnycrash Aw that's great. :) I was wondering is it common for him to have head or stomach problems. I'm sick from work again (I have autism and I work with autistic students), and I've been noticing this is very common that we constantly have stomach or head issues.

  • @TheTravelfool No, so far he doesn't seem to be bothered by that. I'm sorry you have those problems :(

  • @jrnycrash grazie :) Sherwood? Are you English?

  • @TheTravelfool LOL No, that's just the name of his school :)

  • @jrnycrash LOL I see

  • He reminds me of one of my brother's friends. They both have Aspergers. My brother was diagnosed around the age of 6. He just turned 15 and he is highly functioning and has friends. Keep at it. Quirky is fun. :-)

  • @lordsberserker Thank you :)

  • beauitful little boy

  • @31correlli Thank you :)

  • this is so beautiful! just like dancing with the sounds...

    perfect boy!

  • @convivat Thank you so much! This comment gave me a big smile :). I believe he is perfect. Aspergers is a challenge, but I wouldn't change him for anything in the world. He's perfect!

  • @jrnycrash ok now that you both have my in tears here, i just wanted to say hes a beautiful little boy! my son who is 18 months is starting a program in 2 months time, i cant wait i know he will love it!

  • @krystle1506 Thank you :). Best wishes to you and your beautiful son too!

  • My 12 year old son and I both have Aspergers, and it's uncanny how much this little boy in the video bears such a resemblence to my son!

  • @EABeaudry Your son must be adorable then! :) Thank you for the comment!

  • I was disgnosed with Aspergers, though I don't have a severe case of it. I did what this boy did. It was kind of a subconsious thing for me - I traced things I saw with my finger, as if it were on paper. Only I was touching thin air.

  • @Inkwish That's cool! So would you look at an object in the distance, and trace around it? Or just trace something you saw from memory? He really has problems writing with a pen or pencil, but he likes tracing letters in the air. I think he can visualize it better. We have an iPad and he does pretty good tracing letters and writing using a few apps we have. Thanks for the comment! :)

  • @jrnycrash Yeah, I'd just look at an object with a clearly defined outline and trace it. I think it is the reason why I am good at drawing... being able to work with my fingers in such a way really can improve certain skills such as art and sculpting (which I also love!) Aspergers does not in any way make a person "disabled" or "weird" but gifted and unique, with many hidden talents in store! I wish for the best for your child :)

  • @Inkwish maybe only a small trace of autism .. doctors these days cant tell the difference :D

  • @Inkwish its uncanny to hear you say that. my son CJ who is almost 5 does the same thing. when he is trying to tell us something and doesn't know the word he'll say "it looks like" and then traces the air. he also does it just because. Loved the video jrnycrash. i post videos to help other parents. and i enjoy seeing the videos others have posted. its good to feel others understand how our lives are.

  • @Inkwish I do that too, except with my feet. I will draw invisible words

  • @SilentServiceCode that's just cool.

  • bless him

  • aaawww he is so cute what a smart kid I pray for u <3

  • I am borderline Asperger's, and I do recognize this behaviour as being lost in his own imagination. He's likely having a great time in there, and mostly you should let him explore his own mind, but you will have to pull him out sometimes and force him into social interaction. He probably doesn't see much value in having friends right now, because he has more fun entertaining himself, but he will need friends later in life. This is all based on my own experience though; his experience may differ.

  • Thanks for the video! I work with children with Aspergers/PDD-NOS. What wonderful children. I wish the world would understand them better and look at things through their eyes once in a while.

  • My older brother has aspergers syndrome and i've heard from my mom that he used to love watching the washing machine because of the spinning circles, kind of similar to what your son is doing. He has little things he does still, at the age of 24, and I can tell it's just something repetitive he does that makes him comfortable.

  • I like this video. It reminds me alot about myself, and happy times.

And I too understands very much what is going on in this video.

Thank you for posting this. Have a nice day, you've just made mine!

  • @WPSpecialKid Thank you for posting your comment! I love hearing from others with Asperger's....helping me to understand what Christopher is thinking :).

  • Wooooo! Lookit 'im go!

  • He really enjoys the spinning. Imagine if you were doing something that was really fun and you were really enjoying yourself and so focused and then someone asks you to stop or prevents you from finishing what you were doing! He sure is stemming a lot for asbergers. Are you sure he is not further up the autistic scale?

  • Just wanted to let you know -- inside his mind, everything he is doing makes perfect sense. The way one figer stops and spirals smaller around the other; he is bringing the outer world inside his own world, and understandindg it, assimilating it. it's a game, a puzzle, as is everything in his life.

    Just talking from memory.

He acts a lot like me at his age. :)

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and give your insight. It's so hard for us to figure out what he's thinking, but what you say makes total sense. He was only diagnosed less than a year ago. Before that I used to get mad at a lot of his behaviors. But now I know he can't help them. I still lose my patience sometimes, but reading comments like what you wrote here really help. Thank you!

  • I try SO hard to be patient with him. It's not a natural trait for me, LOL. But I do my best. I love him so much and I know he's struggling, even if he doesn't know 'why' yet. Hearing stories from adults with Asperger's is so helpful :).

  • you are encouraging to a mother of two autistic boys. one verbal, the other not as yet. How old are you now?

  • I am 35 :) The harder years for me were when I was younger. There was so much I did not understand, and so much going on inside. Unlike most children, I was actually calmer and relieved during my teenager years as I learned to behave more like my peers, at least well enough to be easily included. It is important to have parental support and patience when you are a young autistic and still figuring things out.

  • God, he's adorable :D

  • Thank you :) He's a cutie for sure, but I'm biased.
