  • Nice video man but it actually felt more like a Michael Mann film than a John Woo film, you had that Noir thing goin down but there was almost no action sequences, although the scenary was excellent those parkin lot shots worked well and the background music brought that Miami Vice feel, next time a little more action and you got yourself an Award

  • @MrRenevelez Haha, sounds about right. The title's a bit misleading. I originally had shot the John Woo esque gunfight just for fun, and then I shot the rest of the short around it. Michael Mann's my favorite director, so the rest of the short was really more of a mish mash of my sensibilities. The music in this short are all songs by Tangerine Dream, who composed for Mann's first film Thief.

I did do another John Woo gunfight that's on my channel.

  • horrible

  • Groovy.

  • Not bad for an action video, I would of chose a better location for the gun fight as well. Other than that, I enjoyed the video!

  • `nice touch with the pulp fiction and kill bill posters!

  • i thought you were gonna go into power ranger mode at 2:14

  • I'm loving it good job.

  • no shells? i particularly like the small room, it was used up very well

  • congratulations, nice movie.. I like how you dealt with the small space setting of the gun fight.

watch my "less than zero budget movie"! :)

  • Pretty well made, all things considered. Maybe go subtler with the sound effects next time, but otherwise good job.

  • What did you use to generate your muzzle flash??

  • Fantastic camera work and editing! The effects were nice too.

  • gunplay n angles were cool,good ending!!

  • hey were did u get the guns at

    or were they real

  • i thought this was really good, the gun fight was were it could have improved a lot. the size of that room was just too small for a gun fight.

  • Haha, believe or not, that gun fight was shot for fun one Friday night. The rest was an after thought. That's why we were using that room.

  • Great job! I liked the fighting scene! Just like a real Hong Kong movie!

  • Good job

  • WOW...awesome...Damn...off the chain

  • Other than the sound effects, which I imagine are probably hard to do, the movie was absolutely awesome stuff. Great fun, and I can definately see the Mann/Woo influences without being 100% rip.

  • Read the below first...

    3. Make the pre-action-moments longer. Don't rush into action. Let the public feel the excitement. I'm talking mainly about "Day 2" and the chase in the hallway - I think it should be longer.

All in all, a great fun amatuer video too watch though. =)

  • Haha, I loved this amatuer shit. =) You've really got some skill and obviously the Hong Kong infuences are great fun to see. Let me give you some constructive critic though.

    1. Tune down the "hitting sound" in the fighting scenes. Make it sound less like an action game, and more realistic.

    2. The fighting music should tune out when the fighting stops. I thinking about "day 1". Why not have some silence when the guy is dead? I think the result would be more effectful.

  • While you can definitly see it was amateur work, it was excellent considering you didn't have a whole hollywood/hongkong action cinema studio behind you, keep up the good work! (PS I finally got it to run, my computer was just acting up)

  • for some reason it keeps freezing on me.

  • awesome work...

  • dude that shit was hot! for amateurs that was pretty damn cool.. save the vid, i would look good on a resume if you decided to direct or produce movies!

  • Kekeke, shootout, but no bullet holes. It's not a John Woo style film unless shit is exploding! XD

    Other than that, awesome film!

  • good sound fx

  • then again most hollywood movies these days have not much plot so i can't really critisise that much and the action scenes are done quite professionally.

  • pretty sweet giant muzzle flashes though

  • nice locations good camreawork but on the other hand no plot totally unoriginal its been done before ten billion times and the special effects could've been done better its ok but let down by unoriginality and not much interest three stars

  • Actually I'd agree with that. This was really more of an exercise in style over substance intentionally. Hence there was no plot, let alone the nonexistence of a script. Sort of a warm up for something bigger I have planned. In fact, this project all started off as me just doing a practice gunfight, and I just went from there.

  • Haha, Tommy and I originally didn't even want to do the film BECAUSE we didn't have a good idea for a story. We only went with this because it was something easy to do, and Derek wanted to do it.

  • That was a really neat video. What program did you use to add in the gunshots?

  • Adobe After Effects.

  • Anywas, overl all good job.You made me watch a 7 mintue video on youtube which is a good enough comliment , lol.

  • (cnontuinued) The john woo influence worked well. However , it was a little crap when they are both shooting at each other in the same room and both miss. at about 5.30. Good use of foley though , adding a better dramatic sense. The music track for the final scene was alittle too relaxed for my likeing. The scene sould have had a much more adrenilne fuelled impacet with harsher exciting music.

  • The funny thing about the gun part is that scene was actually the first thing we shot. Derek originally wanted to just do some test footage to see how muzzle flash effects would look, and a week later he decided he wanted to make a longer film around that scene. That's why it lacks a lot of intensity and seriousness.

  • Hmmm , not bad man. I was surprised to see that u shot this on a digital 8 camera becos the quality for a youtube video is very good. Did u edit on a mac? Anyways , it was edited very nicely and you maintained continuity through out with no cuts looking akward. Nice and professional. The fight at the beginning was a little scrappy but thats beasue i am used to watching jackie chan films , lol. And i know how hard it is to chereograph and shoot a successful fight scene

  • Hey that was awesome!!

  • OMG. That was one of the worst shot sequences I have seen in awhile. Is there really no average fan of movies that could direct a decent short out there other than me?

  • Haha, that was probably one of the most dumb responses I've ever seen. Hey, mister big shot, where's your videos? You don't have any on youtube, so as of now you are just some guy who talks big. Of course if you could elaborate on what makes this the worst shot thing you've seen in a while, I'd be willing to listen, although everyone else here seems to disagree with you.

  • eh... it was alright, but as a fellow filmmaker i know how tough it can be to get a simple gun shot to look even half way descent, espeacially when u don't have any special effects peolpe to help you out. just keep it up.

  • wow good job! i like most of the gun flashes but i think there was one that was facing backwards towards the end of the movie. the bullet hits on the wall was good too. also good job w/ the sound effect production. u guys should shorten the length and send it for the Stranglehold competition. i'll vote for ya unless i find something better :)

  • Can you please tell me where you got the fight scene sound effects from?

  • very nice, I really enjoyed it. Great job.

  • that was pretty cool and it was DIY which was even cooler!!

  • Where did u get all the martial arts sound effects from?

  • Bah! This needs more views! People need to relish in its awesomeness!

  • you guys got the gun sounds from counter strike didnt you?

  • Nice job, guys. Sweet.

  • whoah, this is soo cool and the fighting seems to have improved since delivery, nice work man!!

  • yeah man good stuff.. the shorts are getting better and better

  • my favourite short from you. awesomeness!

  • The parking lot fight had some good camera work and the editing at the gun fight was pretty awesome. good stuff my brotha.

  • Hunter Killer? You don't look like a Terminator. :)

  • I'm a mimetic polyalloy.

  • Definitely my favorite of your films so far.

And I can definitely see preparation for Delivery 2 here. It only makes me more excited for when you finally film that! Haha.

  • Hopefully we're going to start filming soon. I've got about 25 pages worth of a screenplay written, but we can start doing the action/fight stuff whenever.

  • hunter killer sounds hilariously bad =P

  • I just think it's funny that you wound up naming it "HK". Other than HK action films being the influence it has nothing to do with anything in the film, haha.

  • I know, it's just because of the context. Although it could also mean Hunter Killer, which I do in the film sort of.
