I admit this song is good and the band too, but I hate the fact they're religious nutsacks. I know win was raised in Texas as a Mormon, so that might be the problem right there. Other than that, I just ignore the whole "religious aspect" of their work. Either they're talking about Cities or religion. And I prefer cities. But seriously, other than that, GREAT band. But hey, every band has it's faults. And in a way, the religion aspect does shine on their classical work.
But this song is pretty much anti-religion. They are saying how this man looks to God for the forgiveness of taking the innocence of his daughter. He is selling his daughter for fame and profit, and then looking to God for the forgiveness of his actions.
i love Arcade Fire videos comment boxes :L in every single one they are being compared to someone else in this its Bruce Springsteen in the one before this it was radiohead and in the one before that it was modest mouse?? and cold play????..........why cant people just let arcade fire be without comparing them to other bands
I agree. I got mad at some stupid comment like that and replied and someone told me to calm down that it was just a point of view. I am guessing it's not a personal but collective one. Too many people repeating the same shit.
If they felt the power, depth, emotion and intelligence of Arcade Fire they wouldn't be talking shit with corn in it. They would just appreciate it and comment how they feel. That's exactly the kind of people they talk about in Rebellion and many others ;-)
@conall101 Isn't it only natural for humans to compare something new with something old and familiar? The mind always makes associations, whether we want it to or not. and it is only natural to want to see if others make the same connection :-)
Imagine you've just graduated from university and get a job downtown working with a telecom company. At first, it's great. The money is decent, you work in a big office building, and you get to wear spiffy shirts everyday. The shine soon wears off.... Working in a cubicle and talking on the phone all day just doesn't fulfill your life ambitions... is this what you're destined to do for the rest of your life? Out of nowhere, you hear this song. Don't tell me music can't change your life.
Agreed, his voice is alot like Bruce's- and the acoustic guitar and the tenets of a piano- LOVE IT- it's not the same- alot of ways its diff- its alright ppl!
I have a bootleg album from a 1.23.2008 concert at the Enmore theater in Sydney, Australia and it is absolutely phenomenal. He kicks off the song stating "this is a song about creepy f***ing parents who dress up their kids with lipstick" and then 3/4ths of the way too, he goes into the a Bob Dylan song, singing the first first of Highway 61 Revisited. Without a doubt, its the best Arcade Fire live recording ive ever heard, and possibly the best live recording ever
brilliant song, can anyone tell me though, what is that, that happens at the very end? i cant really see what it is, it looks like a man lifting off the ground or something?
