  • and thank you Markfromireland ;) cheers!

  • @clairesarah100 You're very welcome - couldn't agree with you more about the stunning research she's doing. I've never understood why people (mostly male musicologists it must be said) find it so hard to grasp that Vivaldi was keenly aware of the musical abilitiies of the women of the Ospidale. If you know anyone who'll be interested please help spread the word.

  • Love this! As an early music violinist it is actually extremely helpful to watch this program and see the wonderful research this lady is doing! Thank you BBC!!!

  • What a great documentary. Wish we had such quality on the telly here instead of reality TV, unending sports, and vampires.

  • @Caeliusrufus Well, at least we have the possibility of seeking and finding on the internet - I'm familiar with your problem I live in Denmark and the ghastliness of Danish television is only exceeded by the unspeakable crud broadcast by the Swedish channels. There are times when I'm reading the TV guide and notice that next up is a reality TV docudrama about a teenage vampire soccer team. Then I wake up screaming and sweating to give thanks that it was only a nightmare ...

  • wonderful documentary. Vivaldi is one of my favourite composers and I knew about him and the pieta. I wonder, did the women there sing the real SATB pitches?? there was one choir, cant remember which one, that recorded the gloria but the T and B lines were transposed up, so the T line ended up being higher than the S, and it didnt sound good.

  • @margotlorena1 You're right there was such a recording I can't remember who it was either, I don't think it was this group but could be wrong.

Glad you enjoyed the documentary - It really is ridiculuous how little attention is paid to who it was Vivaldi was composing for.
