My stepfather's pride and joy was a 2.0 GL in blue with blue velour seats and the first time he allowed me behind the wheel I depressed the clutch and the bloody cable snapped! The look on his face! You would think I could of purposely snapped it!
I had a Cavalier Coupe in 2005, it had the twin headlight conversion, de badge, dark blue re-spray, blue alloys and a few other minor changes. It was probably the best looking car around my area, people used to ask me if it was a Mustang and someone even came up to me and asked if it was an old Ferrari. I had to get rid of it although i am looking for another one but it seems that they are becoming even more rare now.
This looks more like an advert made for cinema than television; you can almost hear the different voice being dubbed in at the end with details of the Vauxhall dealer local to the theatre (like the generic adverts by Pearl and Dean).
In South Africa these cars were actually made by Chevrolet, and is called Chevrolet Chevair Belina, it came in a 4 door, the only thing cosmetically different was that it had dual vents in to front where Vauxhall has none there
scg 282t the first car I ever bought. Cost 200 quid in 1991. Metallic green 2000 GLS sports hatch. These cars all had the stupid problem of the rubber gasket sealing the front lights falling apart.
My dad had a jamaica yellow 1600L back in 1984. In '85 I did my first legal road driving in YVS692S. I came out of a cinema with my girlfriend one night and couldn't unlock the door, until I realised I'd tried to get my key into another ex fleet '78 Cavalier, also registered YVS---S. My mate owned another yellow Cav, VOL434S, and drove it like he stole it. I don't suppose any of the three escaped the great junkyard in the sky though, the common cars all get driven into the ground.
Dads first MK1 was a metalic green from 1979...2000 GL saloon. YJO 164V (i think) The engine was built by Holden in Australia. I remember it as the first car he had with intermitent wipers!
Brings back memories, my first car was also a nice red 2.0 GLS Sports Hatch, even with all the cars ive had since i still consider it one of my favs with bags of character. Would love to own one again.
my first car was a 1977 cavalier 1600gl saloon, rfj 658r,in "dukes of hazzard "orange!!i got it when it was 10 years old and it was totally reliable.paid £325 for it!2 of my mates dads had 2000gls saloons,i was so jealous!!
I had a metallic green 1979 Cavalier Coupe GLS.... I loved that car. I used to be on the road a lot, and that car took me faithfully all up and down the country. Built like a tank. Took everything that was thrown at it.
Stylistically it looks like a Chevette on steroids! Good to see more material of older British Vauxhalls up here, as several months ago there was barely any!
i had a 1976 cavalier coupe as my first car. in the advert colour. It was a great car and different to everyone else. better looking than the more plastic looking manta.
I remember the late 1970s when the Cavalier mk1 and the Chevette were both in the top ten UK sold cars. Ok, sales never matched the Cortina due to Ford's fleet purchases but the Cavalier did a lot of remove Vauxhall's reputation of producing rust buckets like the Cresta & Viva.
I like the coupe, but the styling is utterly revolting at the front end, no offence evreyone who likes it

"Vauxhall Cavalier... at your Vauxhall dealer now!!!"
Back in the days when they used talk about new cars like talking about a new film released at the cinema.

The best cavalier out of all of them, they are now one of the rarest vauxhall's left.
Much better than the plastic mk2 cavalier.
Long live the Mk1
