  • I love this, Andrea is such an inspiration to me, but what about the children being killed by the soldiers the mothers daughters fathers and sons being taken away? Wars= downfall of society

  • Oh, God.

  • Thank you.

  • That is so true! And this is such a powerful poem! Thank you!

  • EVERY. TIME. I. CRY.

Such powerful words. Such TRUTH. As a mom of a member of the military....you do want to " hold them tight when they get here" and NEVER let them go.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Andrea Gibson.

  • "How ironic that their deaths sound like bible verses...."

I wonder what it's like to kiss her.

  • @brybutlerrr I want to like this a million times.

  • utterly amazing <3

  • my mom is leaving next week for kuwait, i couldn't stop crying for 3 hours and this poem just brings me back to that

  • so glad my cousins home:) he just got married, and his wife spent the first 8 months of their life together apart. in afganistan. please end the war. i want our americans safe.

  • amen sista

  • God gave me chills before it made my eyes water. I serve in the US Army, and it still made my chest hurt. Andrea is one of the best contemporary poets of this time, and she speaks about real things. <3

  • i really think this would be that much more powerful if it didn't have the last line "and hold them tight when they get here." but i do love this... much love.

  • This one got me into tears. I'm currently serving in the Air Force and am deployed to the war zone. God Bless all the past and present Soldiers, Arimen, Marines, and Seabees who risk their lives everyday or who have lost their lives in some type of war or battle.

  • actually...they have M4's...just saying...

  • "how come we forget what we never know?"

  • Thank you for this! Very powerful and moving!

  • all hail the Poet

  • This gave me chills, as all Andrea's poems do.

"You want to support our troops? Bring them home."

  • @theusedx0 and hold them tight when they get here
