One of my relatives used to work for American Airlines at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport in Texas. He's now retired and living in Washington State, not too far from where I live. I distinctly remember flying American a lot more times than any other airline.

Indeed it is a 747SP. I believe AA flew them for a short time to LHR and NRT back in the late 80's/early 90's. I used to see it at DFW a lot.
