  • thank for the intructional video, im getting the 320 GB for $99.00! wasnt sure how to install the internal hard drive inside the xbox, good job on making it clear. if anyone can answer this, when i install the internal hard drive, will i have 324 GB of space in total?

  • @thebrianel115 no you will have about 294GB due to the way the HDD is formatted. I just put a 320GB into mine and it had 294GB free.

  • this could of been shorter

  • @Fallout3Boy2077 Make sure the drive is inserted completely. If its in all the way and the Xbox still will not detect it return it ASAP as defective and get a refund.

  • :/ every time i put the hard drive in it never pops up in my memory setting

  • Sweet

  • Awesome video, thanks

  • thanks man

  • Good video but 125$ for that drive is rediculous i just spent 250(with taxs) for the damn thing i would exspect atleast a 20g hard drive.....

  • @tyvallely Yes. There is no hard drive in a 4gb slim. There is a hard drive in a 250gb slim.

  • So the 250gb slim comes with a hard drive in the area underneath the vent? And the 4gb does not? Please reply soon need to know ASAP.

  • Yea now i can play JSRF

  • How much for the hard drive?

  • If I put this in will I keep all my saved data up to date? Please answer!

  • @urbanvibe209 Slims have their own specific hard drive completely separate from the hard drive used by model 1 Xbox 360s. They are not compatible with each other. Slims and model 1s are configured differently and you can't use their drives on the other models. Make sure to buy a drive for a slim if that's what you have.

  • @Maniac536 would it be safe to use the AGPtek hard drive

  • OMFG thank you so much ummm wait one more thing....... SUBSCRIBEEEEEE

  • Thanks heaps man! But fyi i got a 320 gb hardrive. Dunno how big they make em but it set me back $150 at eb

  • @ASSterix211 Thanks for posting! When I made the video the 320gb drive wasn't yet announced or released so I didn't mention it. That currently is the maximum size microsoft makes for the slim. Enjoy the new drive!

  • Thanks for the tips. I just installed a 320GB hard drive in my Slim but it's really 298GB. I recommend installing your Game discs too as to extend the life of your disc reading lens and keep the Xbox cooler as well not to mention quicker load times on your games. You still need the disc in the tray when playing your games the reason being for the license code on the disc. Afterwards go to preferences and then Storage Device and click your original 4GB device icon and then go to move content.

  • @rawrgoesthewaffles Unlikely. Any saves on the xbox's internal memory will still be in there. Feel free to post up what the Xbox did with them. It'll either transfer the data to the hd or keep access to the internal memory. Of course if something else happens post that too.

  • @Maniac536 people were telling me theres only 1 hardrive for all 360s, when i thought there was a special slim hardrive you have to buy for a slim like you showed, so is this true? and have you found out if theres more sizes for the slim hardrive, 250gig sounds expensive. ( im a console noob i know nothing :) )

  • if i put this in, will every saved game i have on it be deleted?

  • @wreckedboy98 you're not going to have access to the full 250gb from the hard drive. My guess would be maybe around 238 or so but don't quote me. Some of the gigs are lost in partitioning and some are used by the Xbox system. I think when you install a drive, the Xbox starts using that internal storage for the dashboard and updates exclusively but that's just a guess. I know I can't save to the internal storage directly with the hd installed. If anyone has upgraded recently please post what h

  • So if I put the hard drive into my 4 GB console, I will have 254 GB? Or will it be separate?

  • @WreckedBoy98 -- it will overwrite the internal solid state, youll have a 250GB one

  • @WreckedBoy98 separate

  • @flchorton then how do I transfer my saved things to the harddrive.

  • @FrenchDavid50 No. I've heard everything on those ranging from completely not detected to not allowing Xbox 1 games to run (and that seems to be a major reason why people are getting these drives in the first place). The problem is these are harder to determine if they're fraudulent online.

  • Don't buy non microsoft drives. Just don't. If you find a drive for a slim that isn't either 250gb or 320gb then don't consider buying it for a second. Since Christmas I've been troubleshooting users non stop who bought these drives and they don't even show up recognized by their 360s. Avoid them.

  • @Maniac536 Would a non Microsoft 250gb drive work?

  • If i buy a 20GB hard drive, can it play original xbox games?

  • Thanks dude u really helped me out. I didnt know how to put in the hard drive till now. Thanks

  • @Sarahmajig Microsoft doesn't make a 20gb drive for the slim... I don't trust that further than I can throw it. The smallest capacity Microsoft makes for the slim is 250gb, and recently they made a 320gb. Of course Ive heard of fakes at that capacity as well, they seem to plague amazon from what I've heard. It's best to be safe than sorry. Buy a HD in a store.

  • @Maniac536 I got the 20gb drive in the mail today. Looking at it I could tell it for sure wasn't made by microsoft; I just now read your comment. Anyway, I installed it and looked at my storage and the name is in Japanese and it says 13.8 GB free. As long as it works for a while I'm fine, I just want to be able to play my original Xbox games and it was $30 anyway. I'll be getting a 250gb drive later. Is there any way it could damage my whole system or will it just not work right sometimes?

  • @Sarahmajig Well as I'm sure you can tell by now, I don't think that thing will play Xbox 1 games properly, unless it was made from a dissaseembled fat drive.

  • @Maniac536 It's playing JSRF fine, you know, the dual disc with Sega GT 2002. It lags but I read that happens regardless. That's the only game I've tried so far.

  • @Maniac536 I watched this and because of our crap Internet spent 40 waiting to learn something I already knew. The thing is, it's properly in the system, but when I turn it on and go to the memory section, IT DOESNT SHOW UP

  • @DoritoBurrito77 You have a broken hard drive. Return it to the store.

  • Yeah, I'm so upset because I'm broke, I've wanted a 360 since they've first come out and I finally get one, a 4gb slim and I can't play my original xbox games which I've been wanting to do, and I'm just totally pissed at Microsoft right now. I guess I'm going to buy the cheapest drive available. Buy, buy, buy. Anyway, this cleared a lot up for me so thanks for this video, bro.

  • @Sarahmajig Whatever you do be wary of "cheap" drives for the 360. These third party drives are the reason why I have to do so much troubleshooting for so many users. They were formatted by idiots who had no idea what they were doing, and some games will not run with them.

  • @Maniac536 What exactly do you mean by "cheap"? Do you mean a drive not made by Microsoft? I ordered a 20GB HDD Hard Drive Disk for Microsoft Xbox 360 Slim off Buy.com and I'm paranoid about scams. The photo shown is the actual drive and the seller has good reviews. I should be fine, right?

  • Thank you sir, this tutorial helped me a lot. I am very new to the Xbox 360.

  • Thanks for makin this video, i was kinda lost on why my xbox didn't pick up my harddrive..it didn't click. i was afraid to strong-arm it so, i came here for an answer.

    Thanks man.

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!!!!! :)

  • External drives had a maximum supported capacity of about 16gb or so. It might've been increased with the recent update but I hadn't heard anything about that. You'll be able to store XBLA games and saves on them just fine, so long as you're using them on the console they were purchased on initially, otherwise you'll have to be online.

  • cant I put my saved games and DLCs and stuff on an external harddrive instead of a xbox slim specific hard drive? or is that just for music and videos only?

  • Thank you! I got a hard drive for christmas and couldn't find a hole to stick it in! :)

  • hey like this comment if you have a 320GB hardrive

  • @Zombiegangsta911 yeah hey can you subscribe to me and watch my football vids and coment please thanks merry christmas

  • Well explained!

  • TY!! im saving up for a hard drive now :)

  • Five min for that

  • @xDtimmy41 oh yeah. It's just the drives that don't work is all. Tons of people are complaing about them online due to incorrect partitioning and formatting. Makes some games not work.

  • does this works with not-microsoft hard drives?

  • Alternatively, just see Microsoft's official explanation?

Doesn't take a video to explain this process.

  • Seriously thanks for the video. Im getting a 4 gig x box and buying a 250 gig hard drive . Plus itll save me $50

  • Hey thanks man. I just got my drive in the mail..WITHOUT INSTRUCTIONS?!:( I'm pretty handy but I had no friggin idea where to slot this thing in. I felt like a caveman grunting and scratching my head as I kept rotating and flipping the console looking for the slot. Thanks for the fire;) Good, informative video!

  • ive seen other videos that put the older harddrive in the xboxslim like a 120gb even thoughh its a little wobblely do you think itll be a problem

  • Thank you for the video.

  • lol this guy is a newb this has the same as a sata haha cause it is

  • This vid only needed to be 1 min long

  • You might add in your details that they actually have a 320GB hard drive out now.

  • this video only needed to be 1 minute long....

  • @imxjustin No, it didn't. I've seen far too many videos made for people with ADD that just gloss over the solution to the problem you're seeking, or does not provide a good enough procedure for what to do, forcing you to either comment with questions for answers not provided or seek a different video. In my video, I provided background on troubleshooting problems, gave a step by step process on how to do the procedure, and it still is a reasonable duration.

  • @imxjustin Dude @Maniac536 just pwned you

  • which halo game is at the beginning

  • @Thunderblue66 Halo Wars.

  • Tutorial starts @ 2:05

  • THANKS SO MUCH MAN HELPED A LOT! I got a harddrive and im like wtf were does it go in? THANKS!!!!

  • There is now an Xbox slim transfer cable for people who need it. Microsoft has just announced it.

  • thnx dude

  • Thanks, I'm looking into buy a 4gb slim and 250gb and it seems to be a quite simple installation process. :)

  • thanks bro this actually really helped

  • If you want to see where he starts talking about where the opening is start at 2:15

  • Cool intro bro

  • @culebro12pr I've been told 250gb Xbox slims have a glossy finish to their case opposed to a non glossy finish to a 4gig. My 250 has a glossy finish so I can confirm that but I've not seen a 4gig to compare. It would not affect anything but aesthetic.

  • thank you for this video!

  • @culebro12PR No. Those drives suck beyond words. They were partitioned by idiots who didn't know what they were doing and cannot play Xbox 1 games. Dont waste your money.

  • Im thinking about getting a 4gb xbox slim and buy the hard drive from ebay whick cost around $40 .. Should i? Also , is there any difference between installing a hard drive or buying the whole 250gb xbox? Plzz replyy :/

  • Thanks man, great review! :)

  • Thanks

  • i wanna shove this guy into a locker.

  • @SuperBadonkadonk64 You better also put me in there with a hot girl and the millions of dollars I'd win in the lawsuit I'd file after you did it.

  • @Maniac536 Your a poonanny

  • Thank you!

  • Thank You! Thank You!! Thank You!!! I was freaking out and you saved me... Thank You.

  • Double check your connections to make sure it's inserted properly into the Xbox. If the connection is solid and the Xbox still won't detect it return it for a refund. If you're using a third party drive don't bother checking for a connection just return it.

  • @Maniac536 MY XBOX 360 SLIM DOESNT RECOGNIZE MY 250GB HARD DRIVE, WHAT TO DO? PLEASEEE

  • @LeoMiotto16

im having the same fucking trouble and i called 18004myxbox and they had no idea...they told me to buy a new hard-drive.

  • thanks!

  • Thanks for the video

  • PLEAE HELP! ME!! I BOUGHT A HARD DRIVE AND I PUT IN HALO 2 AND IT SAID ''Could'nt start game, Please dowload again'' PLZ HELP ME D;

  • @awesome1232324 Xbox 1 games require the 360 to download a quick patch in order to emulate them. You'll have to be directly connected to xbox live in order to download it.

  • Thanks for the helpful video :)

  • Simple and informative. Thank you for this excellent video.

  • Thank You!!! Never would have found the compartment :)

  • can u transefer your stuff from the 4gb onto the new harddrive?

  • @Thekaiishi1 I honestly don't think you'll need to. If my theory is correct a 4gb Slim uses internal solid state memory and installing a new hard drive shouldn't remove what you already have in there, just expand it.

  • Thanks alot for posting this. I was actually baffled by all these crazy Xbox confusion. I looked everywhere for that slot but I coudnt find where it is. I was pretty pissed. You are my hero.

  • thanks man this helped alot

  • Thanks dude:D I have a 4GB Xbox 360 Slim so the hard drive thing was empty, I had that problem in Halo Reach when I was trying to play Co-op Campaign with 2 of my friends, I thought you like needed a wire for the hard drive as well. O.o Thank you so much anyway, very helpful :D

  • Thanks that was very helpful.

  • thanks for the help buddy!

  • Haha, thanks for this. I was freaking out because I thought I accidentally bought a regular XBox 360 hard drive. XD

  • this was really helpful

  • this video just saved my life lol!

  • Does anyone know if BestBuy is giving out slims with $699 or higher Windows 7 laptops?

  • @ucanttuchdis5678 Microsoft definatly is, meaning if you buy one from best buy and keep your reciept and they don't give you a slim with the laptop you could send it to ms and they'll mail you one no problem, although the exact specifications of that deal (or if it's over) are unknown to me since I build my own PCs.

On a side note, the slims in question are 4gigers, and you'll need to know this video very well if you plan to upgrade it to a 250, lol.

  • @Maniac536 Yeah I was planning on doing that, and the special ends on 9/3/2011 "or until supplies last". Thanks for the help

  • @ucanttuchdis5678 in order to get the xbox you must register the labtop with a collage email adress... so you can only get the xbox if you are going to collage

  • @stall3me Yeah I got a great deal from Dell and it happened by chance they gave an Xbox with it. Thanks anyway.

  • @ucanttuchdis5678 kooooooooooooooool

  • Thanks i had no idea where to find my hard drive in my xbox

  • Thanks man this was a good and useful video and the dude who said it could of been 30 seconds obviously doesn't understand what a commentated tutorial is :)

  • Mine doesn't really "click" well i say mine, it's my bro's. I have done the wise and sensible thing of getting a PS3.

  • So far the video is useful. I would enjoy the rest of it if it didn't keep stopping cause YouTube is fucked up.

  • o dam i thought u were pau gasol

  • ty i just got my hard drive today

  • NICE

  • 4:36 Thats what she said.

  • Thanks man, I am finally putting away my stubborn ass and buying a console from this generation, and this video was exactly what I needed.

  • Thanks man, I am finally putting away my stubborn ass and buying a console from this generation, and this video is exactly what I was looking for.

  • Is it possible to remove this hard drive without breaking the keep-in-place mechanism? Like say if the 360s red-ringed for some reason? Or I wanted to play at a friend's house, without using a flash stick?

  • @voodooman8 I've been able to remove it from an installed console no problem. If your slim fails, you'll have to pull it anyway before sending it to microsoft for repairs. It's not a good idea to use it to share your live profile on your friend's Xbox 360 because your friend will have to remove his hard drive (and possibly all his profile data) to put yours in.

  • @humblepiebrianblair Unreasonable.

  • Great walkthrough thank you and quake shirt for the win

  • did you buy the 4gb and buy the 250 hdd, or 250 model.

  • @DarkMerchant2222 I had the 250 model. But before doing the video I researched how 4gb models worked.
